Singh1699 How do you suggest a Mir be selected? I am assuming that you would agree that a democratic method will be best (unless you want Iran or Saudi style theocracy). This was the reason Punjabi Suba i.e Punjab with Sikh majorly was created in the 60s. Every ruler i.e Chief Minister of Punjab is virtually guaranteed to be a Sikh. That is pretty good Miri, don't you think. In addition Sikhs have been India's PM, President, Army Chiefs, Chief Justices etc etc. through a democratic process. Bhindrawla was not a rational man and he wanted to create a Sikh theocracy. He started acting like he was above all the laws of the land. Basically he had self appointed himself the Mir of Punjab, which he wanted to be a Sikh theocracy. With no space in governance for ~ 40% non-Sikhs of Punjab. He started giving killing orders for anyone whom he deemed undesirable or whom he thought insulted him. He told his followers to arm themselves with pistols and motorcycles. Bhindrawala was very anti-Hindu despite his denials (acting like a Judge/Muscleman over dowry disputes involving Hindus doesn't make him a messiah for Hindus). He is on tape threatening to kill 5000 Hindus every hour till police doesn't release a jeep and bus that police had impounded (Search this on youtube: "1 ਘੰਟੇ ਵਿੱਚ 5,000 ਹਿੰਦੂ ਵੱਡਾਗਾ-ਭਿੰਡਰਾਵਾਲਾ"). Plus the way he talked about Hinduism was pretty derogatory as well. In the early 1980s before Blue star in 1984, Hindus were being dragged from buses and trains and slaughtered by Bhindrawala's men. Bomb blasts and shootings targeting Hindus were going on and ~300 people were killed in such terrorist incidences in just 1984 before bluestar. Dhoti-topi was the derogatory term that Bhindrawala used to refer to Hindus. And I have seen "Dhoti-topi Jamuna par" written all over walls in Punjab growing up. Bhindrawala wanted to expel as many Hindus as he could from Punjab through terrorism and become an un-elected Mir of Punjab. He was armed with machine guns, rocket launchers and other weapons along with a number of brainwashed men who were ready to kill and be killed. With all this weaponry and men he fortified and occupied Akal Takhat. It was impossible to wait him our for weeks or months in Golden Temple because you could not shut down the Golden Temple complex for that long without other problems. A swift action was the only option and Army did it at great cost of life on both sides. The blood bath that followed include more terrorist attacks, the Indira Gandhi Assassination and the terrible Delhi Riots. There is no justification for the killings of innocent Sikhs in the Delhi riots and the people responsible should be punished as soon as possible. I am not sure what went wrong with these cases but you have to understand that there were a lot Hindus killed too. Both before Operation Blue Star and after for 10 years of terrorism in Punjab. 20,000 people mostly Hindus were killed in Punjab's terrorism incidents in 80s and 90s. I am sure a lot of Hindus also have not gotten justice. Now the two communities can make this issue in to a dividing issue and fight some more or get together and try to move forward together. Hindus don't have anything against Sikhs but they surely feel that this whole thing was not started by them. Anti-Hindu sentiment is still very strong among many Khalistani Sikhs. The reason mainly is propaganda from overseas especially Pakistani agencies. Please try to move forward in a positive direction for all people of Punjab and India not just Sikhs. Unity is the only way forward my brother.

But when you keep harping on the fact that army entered the temple on the anniversary of Guru Arjan Singh Dev, do you expect any offensive to take place in full view and knowledge the militants you fighting against. All Hindu scriptures were modified by Brahmins over the centuries as per their needs and whims/fancies. The foundation of Brahminism is inequality. They did not include indigenous people. So, we have regressive concepts like shudra and atishudras. Even the women were treated worse than shudras.

dave, I am a Sikh myself. Do not issue blind assertions. Only those Sikhs are good who remain on the guidelines laid by Guru Nanak. I know many Buddhists, Jains, Christians, Muslims etc. who are very smart. Then of course many Sikhs are very smart too - but only those who are enlightened by knowledge and not by fanaticism. Bhindranwala would have ruined Sikhism.

in the sikh history as far as i know blue star like operation is not unique.there had been events like first Ghallu ghara,Ahmed Shah abdali attack,partition of the country etc etc. But i will suggest you to go and read the events which led to Blue star.Stationed in golden temple bhindrawala used to send his mercenaries to kill the prominent people both hindus and sikhs and carried a large pile of unlicensed weapons.he got killed even DIG of punjab Police.the total killing runs into 50000. no bus no train no village and not even sikh jat families were safe in villages. so large number of sikh families shifted to cities like amritsar. over the period he became cancer for the country and shook hands with Pakistan(whose game he was playing , as admitted by pakistan). which country worth the name can tolerate such a cancer. After the operation blue star . a large number of naked women were rescued who never saw clothes for the last six months and unfortunately they were pilgrims hijacked by Bhindrawala troops. long story made short.The operation Blue was a great service of our forces for cleaning Sikhism.thanK them and don't be misled

On numerous occasion they would stop buses or trains, line up Punjabis ( Hindus ) and shoot them dead in broad day light. He called for violence and murder of punjabis ( Hindus ). HOW can we explain all what happened in late 20th century- in the light of early 20th century, and in light of 19th, 18th & late 17th century history of punjab? WHAT lessons we learn from this- so that future occrrances can be averted?
