My groom came with me. I'm naturally a bigger gal just in the bone structure. We were paying for our entire wedding ourselves. Dress budget was low and needing a size 16 and a jacket for religious reasons left me feeling like an elephant. My family has been fat shaming since puberty, even when I wasn't overweight. I didn't bring them because I knew how devastatingly brutal they would be. When I felt like an elephant and ugly in the best of my limited choices, my groom made me feel like a goddess. I can't stand seeing grooms who don't do the same.

I think I just heard a statement that wins the most bizarre statement of the day, The bride said, "If it were up to me..." Umm, excuse me but it's your dress! I thought it WAS up to you. Are you going to allow him to dress you for the entire time you are married to him? Notice I did not say 'for the rest of your life' because I can't see anyone tolerating someone this controlling for year after year. I understand the dynamic of every relationship is as unique as the people in it, but I can't help but feel concerned for the brides when their fiancé insists on being present only to control the choices of their brides to be. That behavior is typical of abusers whose abusive behavior worsens once they've locked in their victims. And even in situations like this where he eventually "conceded" so she could make a decision based on her wants, it's difficult not to feel that he only did that because he didn't want to draw further attention to his controlling ways. More red flags-- When a consultant has to help a bride see and feel that she is supported and safe if she tells their fiancé no--- there's a problem beneath the surface. To all who maybe have partners like this (or worse) this isn't normal behavior of someone who loves and values you and your wellbeing. This is more aligned with the normal behavior of people who love having someone to control and assert power over.

Once she said she wasn't sure if they were really perfect, I felt like screaming, "Run, run as fast as you can!"

I watch this show obsessively and I have yet to see a fiancee that came to an appointment that didn't have obvious abuse red flags.

The "I'm not sure we are perfect for each other," doesn't really bother me. My late husband and I hated each other the day we met and would laughingly tell anyone that until the day he passed away. We always made jokes about how we would never fit the typical married couple. We had a wonderful marriage despite that & so many wonderful memories. HOWEVER, we never would have treated each other with that level of disrespect or attempt at control. That is what concerns me for her. This guy seems like she is meant to be there to please him and nothing else. She looks more than old enough to take a stand for HER...not just for a dress. That said, none of us live in their lives & film can be cut and pasted to mean anything. I hope that is the case here...even though I really doubt it.
