Theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer led the team of scientists who developed the atomic bomb that was used to end the Second World War.

The best biography is the highly regarded, if rather lengthy, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin.
