My favourite scene was when Emily Blunt refused to shake a dudes hand. Simple gesture, but it was her facial expression that was controlled yet filled with rage. Brilliant.
I hope Nolan brings back Downey Jr. for future projects. He can elevate Nolans dialogue and fits like a glove for the fast-paced direction and editing Nolan has. Bond Villain, maybe? Anything would be nice.
I can't believe the man thought he wasn't worthy or was worried that his time in the MCU would affect his performance outside it. he crushed it as Strauss.
One cannot discuss Christopher Nolan without marveling at his exceptional use of a wall of sound. It immerses us in the world he creates and leaves us spellbound. But it is in those heart-stopping moments when the sound abruptly disappears, and silence takes over, that Nolan showcases his true mastery. The stillness is more deafening than any noise, and it leaves us suspended in anticipation.
True, but there is no excuse for theaters that put the sound overly loud. People need to complain to the theater when the sound level is exaggerated, their hearing is endangered. Fortunately, that wasn't the case in my cinema.
True mastery? come on, this is fairly basic film school stuff, the contrast from total sound to silence. I'm glad he's discovered it, but let's not get carried away here.
Christopher Nolan has done something near impossible, being able to make movies blockbuster events just by putting his name on it. *Not counting non-directors like Tom Cruise or Margot Robbie
One of my favorite facts about this film is that Matt Damon was taking a break from acting as promise to his wife but, there was one condition that the break would go on hold unless Christopher Nolan offered him a role. It must be such a privilege to work with a filmmaker with such an extraordinary vision and the dedication to push his genius over the limits.
I love Nolan and have for a long time, and I agree 100 percent. I too, am so grateful he’s making movies. Nolan, Villeneuve, and Scorsese all have movie that I hope will help change the climate this year
@@BlueRaz21 His dialogue can be clunky, I don't emotionally connect with any of his characters, he can be self-indulgent, and he's not that great at action scenes. Having said this, he is always stretching himself artistically, looking for ways to expand the medium, shoots his films on actual film stock, creates stunning visuals, and makes the kind of films no other filmmaker could make. For those reasons alone, I hope he never stops making films.
About the whole “no CGI thing”, Nolan confirmed that he’s referring to no fully rendered shots. Every shot is grounded in reality with real footage from a real set, then accentuated with CGI.
A VFX artist here, what they mean is that the movie has been very carefully planned to try to film everything they can on camera in the form of actual locations, real large scale sets (Complete sets like in the old movies and not partial ones that would require CGI set extension or heavy use of matte painting work as it is more common these days) as well as miniatures and filming real elements that can later be composited together onto a VFX shot. Essentially the VFX work is mostly based on image manipulation and clean up from real elements shot on film without the use of any CGI generated work. Hopefully this makes more sense. :)
When I watch movies I don’t care who is doing what part. I just care about the quality of the movie. What is the big deal with third party awards? It doesn’t change how good or bad a movie is for an individual’s subjective view. What difference does a car have on a buyer because it was reviewed by a third party instead of researched by the buyer? I’m trying to understand the reasoning for why people care about these awards.
We loved the movie too. Even in non IMAX, it was loud. We chose to attend a subtitled showing, which allowed us to catch all the dialogue and was the right choice, we think. It added to our enjoyment of an awe inspiring movie.
Agreed. It's about time he gets on the big stage recognition. Although, there's an argument to made about the legitimacy of the Oscars since it's golden age but, whatever.
You should know Hollywood better than that, if Val Kilmer couldn't get it for his Doc Holiday, this one will go to some dude playing a tranny for his exceptional portal of synthetic toxic misandry... or something like that.
I’m truly happy that both Oppenheimer & Barbie live up to the hype. All the memes, jokes, and marketing weren’t for nothing. They both debuted with a high rotten tomatoes score above 90%. They are the biggest films of 2023 so far. I will be seeing both.
Pray once again for us cinema employees I am at work now we have the Barbie premiere,we got 3 shows all almost sold out, even in the first row sheesh Gotta be a blast this weekend with Barbie AND OPPENHEIMER ☢️
They're one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2023, not the biggest, they haven't come out yet. As of now it's MI7 that's the biggest, it also has a 96% rating on RT. We'll see when the numbers are crunched.
You’re so right about forgetting we’re in 2023 while watching the movie. I got out of the theater feeling a little stunned, couldn’t believe that I just watched a movie instead of actually being part of the story. It is THAT immersive. As for the dialogue sound, so glad I watched it in a country with subtitles! Otherwise I would’ve been sooo lost. 😅
Robert Downey, Jr. was my favorite part of this movie. Nothing against Murphy or the rest of the (amazing) cast, but he really blew me away and it was so cool to see him playing someone other than Tony Stark for the first time in a long time. Makes me wish we could see Tom Cruise play someone other than Ethan Hunt again, as much as I love those movies.
I thought Downey was good in playing something he never has before (not a junkie or ironman) but his scenes weerent that interesting. I was hoping for more technical insight into the bombs construction too but still liked the movie
@@michaelcarbajal.I think as he got older he started focusing more on what he truly enjoys which are filmmaking and extreme sports (basically). so the roles he has are a by-product of that choice. it seems he’s perfectly fine not expanding his artistic standards
went to Oppenheimer today in iMAX and it was absolutely incredible. the 3 hours flew by, and at the end, the audience was in complete silence, started clapping and left in complete silence again, processing what they’d just seen. and so was I! stunning visuals, an intriguing story, brilliant storytelling. if this movie doesn’t get any Oscars, then i’d be baffled
@@talhadawood7969 absolutely!!!! not only the visuals were super enhanced, but the sound gave me so many chills. u really get captivated by it and it feels like ur a part of the story.
@@bleach3767 rather 15 seconds, but yes, things that normally are censored were shown for some brief moments. it’s an adult movie, so idk what ya expect
I’m glad you addressed the sound mixing/dialogue issues. I have auditory processing disorder so I initially thought it was just me but my family said the same thing. The movie was amazing but I did have to lean over to my husband and ask, “What did they say?” several times during the movie.
As a misphonic with similar sound processing issues, you're dead on. Worse, it feels like it was done on purpose. I got a lot out of Oppenheimer overall, but the sound mixing truly was shit. Fortunately for me, I never saw it in theaters, only at home with nice, friendly subtitles. Highly recommended.
@@kukuricapicaIMHO he is better. His films have more layers (in terms of character development and mature dialogue, NOT plot complexity). And they feel more artsy blockbusters. If Kubrick and Spielberg had a child it would be Denis.
There’s a deep gauntness in Murphy’s portrayal in this film. I think it really shows how haunted he was by the work (pre-bomb) and then by the results of his work (post bomb)
exactly. His look, and expressions tell us everything. I only expected Cillian would have some line of dialogue like "my god, what have i done". But his expressions did that. But he was just one scientist, President Truman said it right, they he approved attack, nobody gonna care about Oppenheimer ( which is the truth, they would find another engineer).
In documentaries on Oppenheimer, it says that he was never a happy fellow and seemed to have always felt sorry for himself. Creating the bomb gave him something to make of himself, to be remembered by, and he selfishly took that project to eternalize himself. Blunt's character is right when she says there's no need to feel sorry for someone who sins, they must carry the consequences and stop asking for pity. That's the sad story of Oppenheimer. A man who almost blew up everything we knew and loved simply because he didn't know how to love himself. Why pity such a man?
@@justso-gr3jj The general gist I got out of it was that he was deeply insecure. He wasn't bright, he wasn't handsome, he wasn't athletic. Quantum mechanics gave him an identity within the community. Oppie is his "rock'n'roll" persona and he desperately clinged onto it for the rest of his life until he was forced to face the consequences of his persona. So the bomb wasn't just built out of necessity to win the race with the Nazis, it was also built from the necessity of this single scientist to prove he could be someone. It's not a coincidence he's been compared to Prometheus, just like Dr. Frankenstein. There's great ignorance in providing humanity with a weapon that has a will of its own.
Amazing effort from everybody involved! Stellar cast. The cameos are relentless. Cillian Murphy is finally the front man and I’m all here for it. I hope he gets the appreciation he deserves. Same for Nolan.
I was so surprised by how full all the Imax showing for this movie were at my local AMC, even the morning 10 am show on a Friday was almost completely full, it's great that people still support such good cinema instead of only going to the theater for Marvel like popcorn films. Also the I didn't find the dialogue to be as bad as Tenet, it's very clear most of the times and the only times that I struggled was when multiple people were talking very fast. The score was perfect at building the tension throughout and it was so loud you could feel it in your chest at times, no doubt done so on purpose, as it makes you feel the same way as the character in those scenes.
Honestly, I feel like the whole Barbenheimer weekend drove him that people are sick of all the franchises. Oppenheimer was amazing, we all know, but Barbie transformed what could've been a brainless 2-hour commercial into something that had a point and a purpose. I don't think Barbie is cinematically in the same zip code as Oppenheimer, but it's a more thoughtful take on the typical fun cutesy movie that reflects what audiences want to see and care about (also the soundtrack was great)
Yup Barbie movie was amazing as well, I watched both the same day, first Oppenheimer and then Barbie, it was the perfect double feature, I love watching movies where directors are given free reign to be themselves instead of being forced to deal with studio meddling when making formulaic franchises
I really don’t want to be a negative guy. But Nolan’s peak is done, people still expecting him to make dark knight, inception level movies. This movie looks like technically amazing but Nolan’s character work is always lacking , so a 3 hr drama based on dialogue is going to disappoint a lot of people I think

I’m so happy to Cillian Murphy getting the recognition he so richly deserves. RDJ has always been a gifted actor. I hope Oscar nods are given to both Murphy and Downey Jr. I think Nolan is going to be the golden boy this awards season and he deserves it.
I dunno, the way the Oscars are now you have to have diversity and all that shit... Have to tick boxes... The characters will but will nolan get the Oscar he probably deserves.... Hollywood is gone to shit, we're lucky we have nolan and a few others that give us proper movies
If he does win the Oscars I hope whoever announces his win doesn't mess it up and say "Winner for the Oscar goes to by order of the Peaky Blinders Cillian Murphy
The scene in the "church" after the bang was chilling, and I had full body chills in the last scenes. While the movie is fantastic, I am also glad that humanity is reminded of this threat.
I am happy to hear RDJ is getting love for his acting again. Tony Stark was an awesome and unforgettable role. But RDJ when is all said a done should be able to be remembered for much more. Similar to how Harrison Ford is not just remembered for Han Solo or Indiana Jones.
Just came out of the theater here in the Philippines... and wow. What a film. The cinematography on this one is crazy, Nolan's shots are so precise and very calculated. Murphy and Downey's performances were just amazing. Cheers, Chris, always love your videos. I rush to watch your videos right after watching the newest films. Thanks for your videos.
The film was very loud in some parts which made it impactful but people with sensitivity to sound might want to wear earplugs. This film was very good and so important to show to a wide audience. As someone who has family that lived through the bombings in Japan, I think I was important to see the history behind the attacks. It stirred me emotionally in a way I didn’t expect and I’m glad I had that experience. It was definitely heavy though.
It feels incredible that we still get movies like Oppenheimer from time to time. It's not as often as I'd like but I really treasure them when I get them.
I love that some movie studios have finally figured out audiences will see a 3 hour movie as long as it's engaging and good. The longer runtime allows for more/better storytelling. Don't get me wrong some movies run too long and should cut scenes that are not needed. But movies like this don't seem like 3 hours when watching it because it's phenomenal.
I figured out why I found a big chunk of this movie boring and it’s not because it has a lot of dialogue but because of what that dialogue is about. A whole thread of this movie is about Oppenheimer’s reputation in the aftermath and as a viewer I couldn’t give two s**ts about his reputation or if he gets his security pass renewed or not. Just because the guy shows some regret about what happened doesn’t make him a hero or even someone worthy of admiration, so the stakes were completely meaningless to me. I was interested in the psychological drama of the creation of the bomb and it’s consequences but when the movie became about Strauss vs Oppenheimer like I’m supposed to root for him it completely lost me.
Not a lot of people talking about Ludwig Gorranson's score just yet but let me say that all those riveting scenes you mentioned wouldn't go so far without the music he makes for this film. Definitely one of his best works yet.
In college, I was a theoretical physics major for the first 2 years and my advisor worked on above-ground testing of the atomic bomb. He had some great pictures of the testing and could tell stories about taking the bombs up towers to be detonated so readings could be obtained. Man, he made it all sound so fantastic that I could not wait to start doing math to find the next big secret but alas, I had to change my major and ended up in medicine and medical research. My advisor passed on about 20 years ago now but I remember our time together fondly. He said the work was so boring sometimes that the scientists and assistants built cars to race each other and he knew so much about the cars of the period. I think he loved cars more than physics sometimes.
I was annoyed that the marvel fan boys were upset with him that Iron Man was not his best role when he came out and said Christopher Nolan’s latest movie gave me the best performance of my entire career. I am proud of Robert Downey, Jr. 🤩
Its not about being a fanboy- it was just unnecessary. Marvel literally made him...and although this specific movie might be amazing, he was the titular character in Infinity War and Endgame which were the conclusion to a story that has been told over a decade and 22 films. Those weren't some BS generic blockbusters- they literally made cinematic history with those films. As a HUGE Nolan fan, there has not been one movie I had the kind of theater experience that matched the level of emotion and investment as Infinity War and Endgame and I don't see that changing soon. Oppenhemier may be the best film he's ever been a part of. It's christopher fucking nolan. Of course its amazing. RDJ however did not have to say that especially when he was a part of a universally beloved franchise and a part of the 2 biggest films in movie history- movies that a lot of people loved. It makes him sound ungrateful.
I just saw it in an Imax theater.... it was amazing. 10 out 10 for me. the acting of all the actors and actresses was top notch especially from Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey JR. I already know I am going to see this movie again, because there are a lot of things happening on the screen to process after just one visit.
It was the worst movie I've ever seen. I walked out at 2 hours. I've never walked out of a movie. Even "Mother," which was an incredibly uncomfortable movie, I watched the whole thing. Not understanding how anyone could sit through this movie. It could have been great, but the non linear storytelling was so confusing.
@@LKDoyle12 Most overhyped and overrated film I have seen. Glad i didnt go the cinema to watch it. Nothing happens for 3 hours. Just talking and more talking. You don't even get the actual bombing. Oh and as ever expect Nolans overhyped 'wall of sound' to reduce the tedious dialogue to mumbling. I simply don't get the fuss over this filmmaker.
Have been a fan of Cillians since 28 days later and love his under-appreciated movies like Red Lights, I didn't watch Peaky Blinders until the most recent seasons release and that was awesome. Glad to see him get such a high profile role and a chance at success!
Marvel has gone downhill lately, but it doesn't make you any more or less of a film lover if you enjoy Marvel films. In fact, all it does is make you look like a snob. 🥱
I was majorly disappointed with this film. Not because of the story itself or the acting. In fact, the casting and acting was top-notch. It has already been stated many times - Cillian Murphy delivers an Oscar-worthy performance. What disappointed me was the expectation of a bio/science pic but it was entirely a political drama. The math, the science, the bomb design was only briefly touched upon. I think the film is marketed on false pretenses. The trailer should put much more emphasis on the egos, the political ambitions, Washington because that’s what this film is about. Personally, I think it was a very boring take on what could have been much more interesting film.
Saw a sneak peak on IMAX 70MM and it was undoubtedly one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in the summer and I’m in early 40s having seen many movies since the 80s every summer! A masterpiece!
I agree about the dialogues and pacing being too fast at times that I really struggled to keep up with. But I am willing to indulge Nolan in this case because, unlike Tenet, this movie has some incredibly important life lessons hidden within its screenplay, and I wana properly explore them all. This is definitely a film made to be rewatched, and Nolan knew it. I am sure he has added every little meticulous detail he wanted to almost as if the film itself demanded it. He completely let the story take control, which i loved, and the catharsis in the end was immensely hard hitting for me on a personal level.
i'd watched some video clips of J. Robert Oppenheimer speaking in the weeks prior to seeing the film. the moment Cillian Murphy said his first line as Oppneheimer on screen, my jaw actually dropped. he got the essence of the guy perfectly.
Oppenheimer - My immediate thoughts NON-Spoiler: *How it feels:* Absolute powerhouse of a movie. Everyone that will watch this movie, will feel a lasting impact on them. There are scenes, that you can't describe in words. You just have to see them. You have to feel them. And you have to feel, how those scenes make you feel. *Who it isn't for:* This film absolutely isn't for everyone. And i'd argue there is a really huge percentage of people that will have no enjoyment with this movie. Broken down without any regard on the subject matter and how it is presented on the simplest level the movie consists to 99% of people talking with each other. And even more so, often talking to each other about things many people have no interest, knowledge or understanding of, but that is okay, because even if you can't understand everything people say to each other and what it means, you can still absolutely feel what was said from the reaction of everyone in the scenes. In my viewing there was a row of about 10 teenagers, roughly 14 years old i'd guess, that all left after 30 minutes, and i can't say it was a bad decision for them, because they likely just don't have the patience and the attention span for this. *Actors:* If you've seen any movie of the last 20 years you will probably see a familiar face in here. If you've seen many movies, you will be blown away by how many powerhouses of actors you will find in this movie. Even in roles that are so small that you barely see them. In fact there are so many i'm certain i haven't even recognized half of the ones i should have. I have to give very special praises to the performances of Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and especially Robert Downey Jr. I could list many more, of which not a single one would be undeserved, but this list would find no end, so more on some specific actors in the spoiler section. *Soundtrack/Music:* As i'm really used to by this point, it was no surprised to be blown away by Ludwig Göransson's work here. It might not have the most recognizable tracks that I'll listen to over and over again like for Tenet (Göransson and Nolan's last movie together) but the use of music and sound in this movie, makes you feel the impact of everything that happens so much more. Without it some scenes wouldn't even make sense, but with it, those scenes are some of the most powerful ones i've ever felt. *Length:* With a runtime of almost exactly 3 hours, this is one of the longest films that get released these days. Not everyone will like to sit there for such a long time, especially how i said earlier, people that can easily get bored by "people just talking". For me, i was completely glued to the screen the whole time. Whenever something happened in the cinema around me that i had to pay attention to like people leaving to go to the toilet, it felt like i got grabbed right out of the movie and lost so much, even if they only exchanged a word, since i was hooked on every single word said. I'm probably an outlier when it comes to managing with longer movies, often times i wish a movie would have kept going when others say it was already way too long, but again with this one, when it was over i didn't expect 3 hours to be over already, i could have easily sat there another hour. That is not to say they needed another hour though, everything the movie wanted to tell was completely explored. *The Nolan touch:* I'm a huge fan of everything Christopher Nolan touches. I strongly believe this movie only works because of his vision. It is not a subject i myself am super familiar with, nor is it one i find the biggest interest in, yet it was as captivating as this movie could have been, and i strongly believe it was perfectly executed and i wouldn't change a thing about it. *My personal - genre rating:* As the kind of movie, as a movie about Oppenheimer, this movie can get nothing else then a 10/10. There is not a single flaw i can say, i was hooked from start to finish and i have experienced things i never felt before in my life, and this movie will stay with me for a long time. This movie left me with an impact, only this kind of movie can. And i couldn't imagine any other movie doing this impact any better. *My really personal - overall rating:* Having to compare this to all of Nolan's other work, wait a second and hear me out please, it will probably end up being my lowest rated Nolan movie. The only reason it is that way though, is that Nolan in my opinion has only ever made masterpieces. Most of his movies are my absolute favorite movies i've ever seen. And Oppenheimer is no exception to that, the only thing holding it back, has nothing to do with the movie itself, but with me. My personal interests just align way more with everything else Nolan has done in the past, so while even for my very stupid personal rating i will probably only give this a 9/10 or 9.5/10 that is purely because it never had a chance to speak to me how many of his other films can in the first place. *Last NON-Spoiler words:* While i strongly believe that many people won't have the patience or any interest in this movie and subject, the ones that do give it a chance will get an experience in the cinema they haven't felt before, i certainly did. You don't need to know anything about Oppenheimer going in to this, while the movie is long, it is moving very fast and shining light on all of it's players and often times when referencing a character that hasn't had a major role in the movie even shortly flashes back to them to remind everyone who the discussion currently went to. If you are considering if you want to go to the cinema or if you want to wait till it comes out digitally i will HIGHLY recommend going to the cinema. I of course haven't seen it at home, but there were dozens of scenes i can't imagine having nearly the same impact that i felt in the cinema.
Hahaha, I'm an Indian and here almost all of the Hollywood or just foreign movies have subtitles. It's proven to be more than a blessing when I saw TENET and it will be so yet again when I see Oppenheimer. Super excited
Dude they have started to remove subtitles now😢😢😢 We had no subtitles in mission impossible 7, no subtitles in John wick 4 and not in evil dead rise tooo. PS im talking about PVR Gurugram and Miraj maximum Gurugram. In Avatar 2 in IMAX Saket Delhi, they had subtitles so I hope IMAX may have subs in Oppenheimer
Thanks for the warning about dialogue audio levels. Everyone who is hard of hearing, keep in mind that most, if not all, modern cinemas have and should offer closed captioning devices for you to use. Some may be glasses you wear, a box that attatches to your seat that scrolls the captions, or a simple mirror that attatches to your seat that reflects the captions from the back of the house. Please utilize these devices. 💙
Came here to say this. I won't watch a movie in theatres without borrowing one of these when getting my ticket. I don't understand why movies can't sound mix their dialogue to be audible anymore, but at least I can figure out what's being said.
@@aolson1111the vast majority of people cannot hear what's being said in Nolans movies. I don't care how sharp your hearing is, a third of Tenets dialogue was a mumble.
I'm hearing-impaired & use these devices, but it is not the same. They make it very awkward to enjoy the movie - you're constantly looking up at the movie, down at the device, up, down. Or the glasses stop showing text if you move your head, etc. Many times the devices don't actually work. I just wish movies would offer subtitles. And IMO Nolan is practically discriminating against hearing-impaired people at this point by saying he does not care whether people can understand his dialogue.
Just got out of the theater about two hours ago and it was an incredible film. Christopher Nolan did not miss! I wasn't all aware of OPPENHEIMER's story and the film does a great job telling that story from several perspectives (you'll see during the third act). Was sad Zimmer wasn't composing the OST but the composer they used did an outstanding job. The tension could be felt thanks to the acting and the score working together. I'm going to watch this again on Tuesday
@@doombottv6524 yeah, it's very dialogue heavy but when it comes to the science, the characters do a good job explaining it in simpler terms. This film is different enough from Interstellar to where you would be able to like it if that makes sense?
6:54 This is my problem with a lot of movies; the characters are either talking really softly or whispering and you can't hear at all what they're saying So whenever I watch a movie that isn't by myself and I insist upon subtitles/CC being on, everyone accuses me of either being hard of hearing/deaf
Just saw it last night. BRILLIANT! Incredible. Beautiful imagery. The score is anxiety inducing and maintains the tension throughout the whole film. And then the moments of pure silence… WOW! Cillian Murphy is Amazing. Oscars all around.
100% agree with everything you said. I just came home from watching the movie and it had me at the edge of my seat for the whole three hours. Sometimes I wasn’t following what was going on cause of the fast pace dialogs and other times I recognized historical moments and A listers appearing out of nowhere. In the case of Stuck Man it is likely because he doesn’t want to piss off potential future employers, like Disney, which tried to bury the movie and prevent it from finding an audience.
I know the current trend is the “Barbieheimer”, but I prefer to mirror Nolan and Tom Cruise as two of Hollywood’s figures who are seriously pushing a cinematic journey for the audience and I applaud that. Similar as Scorsese, Jordan Peele and Tarantino, I applaud those filmmakers who do theatrical instead of Netflix oriented movies.
Saw this in theaters and was happy to see a lot of older people in attendance. I guess because of covid, that group has been less likely to go to the theaters (understandably), so it’s cool to see them returning.
Yes, my cinema was mostly 60 years plus... Unfortunately we need the younger generations to go. They are the ones who can change the nuclear arms race. Not the grandmas and grandpas that will die soon
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 Were they? Alive, possibly yes (at least in 1954), but can they even remember any of this happening? It's been 78 years from the atomic bombings, so anyone old enough to remember that time has to be like over 90, and even for the authorisation revoking it's been nearly 70 years (and less likely for a child to remember than a war). We're at the point where there are barely any WW2 vets left around, and all related events will officially become history that nobody alive personally remembers.
I recently watched "Raiders of the Lost Ark" at a Fathom Events screening and I turned to my daughter afterwards and said, "I forgot how great the movies were when everything had to be done in the real world." I'm glad Nolan is still doing this and doing it so well.
After watching Disney Marvel movies for so long I forgot how impressive real movies can look when they use the actual real world and not green screen CGI everything
This is the movie I’ve been waiting for this year, Nolan is my favorite director of our time, Cillian Murphy’s talent is incredible, I truly can’t wait to watch this movie.
As an American, it is sad to see how ingrained hypocrisy in our society is slowly eroding our greatness as a nation. The Oppenheimer movie is a guaranteed flop, and even the film makers know this. Yet, you have individuals with a vested interest fervently promoting the movie. Has anyone thought of how the Japanese feel? OR when the movie will open in Japan? I am sure it will be a big hit. Good luck with that. If anyone thinks the Japanese have forgotten about that part of history, they are fully mistaken. The Japanese are playing along as our allies today, but I can guarantee they are plotting payback plans in the future. And that will happen if our country gets tangled up in a war with China. Who do you think the Japanese will back up? China or America? Something to think about.
I left the theater with tears. This movie had some overwhelming moments and at the end, it brought down the hammer. I had to take a walk afterwards. To me, it is the perfect movie, even with the loud soundtrack.

A few months ago I readed John Hersey's Hiroshima, trully a masterpiece. This movie just hit me hard because it brought all the memories I had from the book about such an important moment in history. The way Robert Oppenhaimer change after the bomb is just extraordinary, scenes like the speech or when they see the images of the victims gave me goosegumps. What a cinematic experience, a feeling I will miss for sure.
Do you recommend that book? Tbh I felt very frustrated by this movie. Maybe a good nonfiction book on the subject would be more satisfying. What would you suggest?
Woow you saw a guy being interviewed for 3 hours, a little fart of a bomb on IMAX and you're that excited you silly dummy. This movie was pure trash, USA propaganda but NPC's like you will never understand.
I didn't understand the mad dash to see this on an IMAX after I watched it, really the only cool imax worthy part was the test, and a few of those quick clips going on in Oppenheimers head. I was expecting much more in the visual aspect honestly
@@marked4death076 because this is the only movie since BvS which was 6 or 7 years ago that had a 70mm print and was shot with 70mm IMAX cameras. Most movies in IMAX are now obviously shown in either laser or digital. But this movie is probably the last and only chance they’d be-able to experience a film in that format before it’s never to be seen again
Pray once again for us cinema employees I am at work now we have the Barbie premiere,we got 3 shows all almost sold out, even in the first row sheesh Gotta be a blast this weekend with Barbie AND OPPENHEIMER ☢️
I saw Oppenheimer on a large screen not quite IMAX. Was absolutely wowed by the special effects but the acting was spectacular. Like you I hardly noticed the passage of time. My only criticism was the volume fluctuations and the necessity to strain to understand dialogue. You have given an excellent review. Thank you
most critics shy out giving their honest opinion for a Nolan movie. Oppenheimer, horribly edited, out of sequence as if three separate movies jumbled up in one, and only thing that gets your going is the exhilarating score preparing you for the next flat scene - two hours of soundtrack Nolan's Bruce Wayne preparing his Batman costume.
@Abcd-de3yv - everyone’s known for years how good he is.. he’s been given his flowers as an actor - this isn’t gonna prove anything - cos everyone already knows
Watching this film in theaters was an essential part of the experience, more so for the soundtrack. All thought I didn’t think it possible, the score and the volume of the score manage to give moral complexity and layers to a scene. Example: When he is testing the Bomb, there is silence. Now understanding that most of the film inexplicably loud it lets us now that the testing of the bomb is not so much a shock, but in its silence a realization instead of just son soft of reward for his hard labor.
Chris, i just want to thank you so much for keeping us so happy with your content. I’m a aspiring Screenwriter and Film maker, and I just want to wish you good heath and strong spirit for your upcoming projects. Much love from Bolivia 🇧🇴
Just saw it. In terms of visuals, script, performances, character building, musical score and basic ability to keep someone entertained through a 3 hour film, it’s pretty astonishing. I loved it. Like really really loved it. The only reason I’m not giving it a 10/10 is because I want to rewatch it first. There’s nothing I’d change though. It’s a movie that should be seen in a theatre.
@@silas9613 thing is i have tinnitus thats pretty bad enough already, id hate to risk making it worse just for a movie i can see at home. i know its not the same experience but still. i wish there were quieter theaters. its the #1 disability for veterans yet virtually zero public awareness of it.
Can you tell me how graphic the s*x scenes are. I already booked tickets to watch with my parents, but I’m thinking of refunding them because of those scenes 😢
@@JohnDoe-jc8krThe scene has its purpose and it’s depicted really well. One of the scenes that are disturbing for some but has to be there to make the story work.
0:49 In his interview with Empire, Nolan clarified that there is no CGI 'creation' in the movie. There are definitely VFX clean-up shots in the film but none of the shots are CGI created and every shot is practically filmed but VFX is used to remove stuff at times.
I'm not the biggest Nolan fan, but I am very fond of the way that he makes the actors feel like people. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this film.
GOD'S STANDARD FOR HEAVEN IS PERFECTION AND ONLY JESUS (THE SON OF GOD/GOD IN THE FLESH) LIVED THAT PERFECT LIFE! HE LAID DOWN HIS LIFE & TOOK THE WRATH OF THE FATHER ON THE CROSS FOR YOUR SINS! I bought myself opening day tickets to see this as a birthday gift to myself not gonna lie. I'm so excited for this movie. I'm New Mexican, I've been to Trinity before and all, just seeing the history I got to step in the footprints of, that fascinated me growing up, I haven't been this hyped for a film in a VERY long time.
I worked on Oppenheimer for 4 days (also kept a prop 👌). I saw it yesterday in 70mm IMAX, a milestone in my life and career (I'm also in a couple scenes/saw myself). See it in IMAX everyone, you won't regret it!
Saw it last night and loved it. I think that they didn't use any CGI, the bomb scenes are incredible. I think this review is fantastic. This film does feel like a documentary of actual people who really brought it to the film. Did not see it in IMAX,but there were some loud scenes that I think was meant to provide auditory power since no CGI. I love all movies Christopher Nolan does. I think he is my favorite director out there now!! Cillian Murphy was incredible. It's about time he got a lead of a film like this!!
I know its weird but I actually really like the sound-crushing that Nolan does. Being forced to listen intently and even miss stuff, although a bit crazy as its a film, kinda adds a layer to the experience thats really unique. Partly its because I know at some point I can see it with subs, so im not tripping about forever losing some important details or something. I totally understand why it puts people off though.
I’m so glad Chris brought up the fact that he couldn’t hear or make out a good chunk of the dialogue. I just watched the movie at home tonight and I had to rewind so many scenes because I felt so confused as to what was being said. AND I had subtitles on…and I never watch movies with subtitles. I thought it was just my stupidity and losing my attention span lol.
It was absolutely horrible with the background music stepping all over the dialogue. It's too bad because besides that it's an instant classic. Nothing was wasted.
@@ShotgunWizard Tons of people care about and are excited about Barbie. But hate to burst your bubble, but the director of that movie is a Qanon freak. And it's based on a dude who is a fraud liar. Very sad.
@@RandomPerson-hh3zc let me guess, you probably believe that Jan 6 is the worst thing ever. I’d tell you to wake up but that will probably never happen…
Your movie assessments transcend traditional reviews by capturing not only a summary of the film but also your emotional journey while watching it. It is akin to a valuable lesson on the art of consuming movies, providing insights into the best ways to engage with cinematic experiences.
I believe the reason behind the dialogue sound being incomprehensible sometimes is resumed in the TENET line: "Don't try to understand it. Feel it." By taking away information from the dialogue you are know taking information from everywhere else. The cues are still in the picture, and while being incomprehensible, the dialogue changes from being the main story driver, to just another element of the film . That forces us to feel the story, instead of trying to understand it from words.
