Any android device manufacturer that doesn't let you do that has clearly gone bonkers. The worst they can do is prevent you from using gestures at all. Which is what miui does. But one thing is for sure, as of android 10 and later, gesture animations will break on using a custom launcher. It even happens on stock android. So it's basically an internal android thing. Hopefully google fixes this on Android 14.

Third party launchers have been a core part of android history. To prevent usage of such a thing is like committing treason

Cause it's hard to do anything in that market if you aren't apple, google or Samsung. Huawei tried and you know what happened to them..

Two things: 1. The majority of the people who use phones don't even know what setedit is or does. System level option tweaking is rare among only hardcore android enjoyers like you and I. 2. The fact that you have to go out of your way to enforce 120fps when the cap shouldn't even exist in the first place is straight up annoying. Reminds me of when I was back on miui 12.5 on my Redmi note 10 pro, Dolby Atmos didn't work on everything. Music, RU-vid, some games worked fine with it, but it got disabled in many other games for no solid reason at all. Now that I'm on a custom ROM, the Magisk module Dolby Atmos I use works anywhere and everywhere. Even my keyboard and system touch sounds are boosted 😂 In short, manufacturers need to stop putting up unnecessary barricades, caps and restrictions for the common person in the first place. Like miui is now *completely* preventing you from using gestures with third party launchers. Unnecessary restriction. But it exists for some stupid reason.

How are you gonna take video calls then? Ykr you can't do that with flexform or rear view because the apps don't allow it??

It's already the next best foldable right behind fold 4. Polishing it more will essentially make it better than fold 4 which might invoke the US govt. again and get the brand banned just like it happened with Huawei

How would you know?

i wish they'd just do the old thing with OnePlus bring just reskinned oppo phones, cuz OnePlus custom roms and root and all that is great. Imagine if you had the find X5 pro camera on a OnePlus 10 Pro, and X5 on the 10T, it would fix basically everything about those phones, you'd have longer support and more development. hope to see what a OnePlus fold would look like

1. Using a Xiaomi phone at the moment and tbh I don't see a use for hacking firmware on 2020 and beyond phones. You lose more than u gain (Widevine L1, Payment apps, playstore certification, stock cameras have more features and faster algorithm with gcam, many stock features aren't available on AOSP rom and tiny features like ability to blur some backgrounds / change position of icons/clocks isn't a reason to change roms) performance wise stock rom usually are most balanced. Moded roms u get only one app or game working right e.g. opengl works than vulkan performance suffers etc 2. My last Oppo phone (mid range A5 2020) launched with Android 10, it got updates on a monthly cycle except for when China was shutdown during COVID-19. It got updated to stable A11 3 months before a lousy A11 update was out on my Poco X3. Tbh Oppo's software is feature complete for a long time and there isn't a feature I'd miss between color os 7-13 (have experienced all except 13 on my reno 3 pro).

@@UsmanSheikhVEVO The thing is there are many people like me who want to use a phone more then 2 years and safety updates are important if you do a lot of stuff with your phone. You are right that you will lose oem features but most pf the time you gain a simple and very responsive experience. And as a long time user I can tell you playstore and everything else will still work pretty fine. I use a xiaomi mi 6 with lineage os 19 and never had bigger problems with it. It still works great and in my experience custom roms are much slimmer than the normal once and run better because of that.

The phone doesn't stop working after 2 years at least not because of software, I've an Android 8.1 tab in my car for navigation/infotainment duty and it still pulls the latest google apps/services from playstore when connected to wifi. My Android 5 phone from 2015 which didn't come with google assistant got it in an update. I also have a Nokia 206 used for calls. It can still do very basic browsing with opera mini. 2. Security updates, again it's far more difficult to infect/maliciously access a device which has a locked bootloader & encrypted storage. If someone's important enough to be a target they shouldn't be using an Android device at all. 3. Simple and responsive? There's google pixel, Nokia and Motorola phones for that & Xiaomi still allows unlocking the bootloader to install a custom rom. Again Mi 6 is a 2017 phone and my comment is concerned with 2020 and beyond devices. Why'd one want to install a custom rom and lose the features OEM has implemented specifically for foldables is beyond me. Using a xiaomi phone, I can see in the root folder that it's carrying a lot of legacy baggage and it does feel like very heavy/resource intensive skin but contemporary OEM skins except MIUI are far lighter, responsive and carry the same amount of features if not more. Even Samsung has lost it's Touchwiz sluggishness. Funtouch OS & Color OS on helio p22/p35 phones in my family are more responsive than MIUI on Snapdragon 6xx/7xx devices (recently purchased a redmi 10c, using an X3 NFC and had an M3 as well before it got deadboot issue). Trust me I had that 2015 phone rooted, tried many custom roms and was using Xposed, magisk on it. But for newer phones modding a daily driver isn't worth it at all unless one's a hobbyist. Newer android versions are getting modular, most of the security stuff is fixed with play services/ security updates.

@@UsmanSheikhVEVO yes I get your point, but oppos 2-3 years is not good enough if you ask me and the fact you can not get safety patches anymore is after a few years a real problem if you want to use it every day. Phones are very strong nowdays and you could do basic stuff on them easy for 10+ years if you wanted to. What oppo does is just not right.
