What was the Opportunity rover last message to NASA? What great achievements did Opportunity make?
NASA's Opportunity Rover (part of the Mars Exploration Rover Mission) has recently reached the end of its journey. After almost half a year of trying to communicate with the rover, NASA decided to end the Mars rover's mission. In this video, we discuss the various locations Opportunity visited, and some of the key discoveries it and the Spirit rover made on the surface of Mars. Lastly, we talk about the impact these rovers had back here on Earth.

My favorite memory was the very first one Opportunity provided namely the view of Eagle Crater's rim, how fortunate to be in a place where the real science of sedimentary rock analysis could be performed even if the rover itself was unable to move due to some mishap. I think that one of its greatest achievements was providing information useful to SpaceX astronauts who may be on the surface of Mars in just 6 short years. Knowing the precise Tau value during one of the worst Martian dust storms on record will help enormously in allowing SpaceX engineers to design sufficiently robust energy systems that enable those astronauts to survive and flourish in yet another dust storm that will inevitably follow. Biggy Cheese The Solar Panels themselves weren’t covered with sand. Rather there was sand in the atmosphere and because of that there wasn’t enough sunlight for the solar panels to create power.

It had solar panels, and it did last a long time. But the panels became covered with dust, the sun blocked by dust in the air, and the batteries ran out. I doubt if it could ever come back on without being manually recharged and turned back on, as I don't think you can design a machine that will turn itself on. Even if you could, Oppy likely got buried and can't recharge. Even if it became uncovered, the batteries have surely lost their ability to hold a charge by now anyway.

I don't know how I ended up back here but I do still think Oppy is the bestest boi to exist. What a massive achievement he actually was. I hope when we send people to Mars, they recover him, name the first outpost and eventually city after him and have him as the beacon of hope for humanities future. He has done thing so incredible that we know more about the Red Planet than we ever would have believed. RIP little buddy, you'll be remembered for years to come and hopefully, one day, you will come back to us humans so we can show you how good your work really was!

I have to admit i never thought i would be emotional over something like this but i really hope nasa makes something on earth to resemble its first LITTLE rover as being the first HUGE step to the farthest mankind has ever been to studying other planets. I believe they should rename opportunity as Endurance just like that crater was, because it showed us that it could tame the climate on mars and pursue its mission longer than anyone expected it to

That's a big ask. Its 2 tiny rovers on an entire planet. Just put that in perspective as if they were here on earth. Hey you are going to America?.. Great while you are there swing by Texas and grab the rover. Then get back in your lander and head over to Africa and grab the other. Its somewhere near the south end. No big deal right? If we get to Mars we can't waste time visiting places that have already been explored. Its simply too big.

@Imfromfuture but why would we? Its literally junk at this point. It would cost tens of millionss to retrieve it and for what? We leave way more valuable items not to mention people at the bottom of the ocean and its right here on our home planet. It doesnt have feelings. Its not lost. Its just space junk.. There is absolutely no reason to go get it. What about all the other rovers still up there? Should we go get Curiosity and bring it back? What about the lunar lander. and rovers? Love and live Did you know that they actually took the cues from the Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity when they made the movie? Even some shots where Wall-E had to go and charge his batteries via solar panels is mimicking the real rovers. They basically studied those two little rovers when making that movie. So in the way Wall-E looks like the Spirit/Opportunity and not the other way around.
