I can understand what you are saying, but in this instance, nothing meant anything to anyone but Mitchell. Give him one last moment to remember. He'll remember every botched catch, every missed shot, and his basket, forever.@@issakakish
There aren't enough superlatives to go around to do justice to everyone, including the fabulous supportive student body who, obviously, also love Mitchel.
The kid that passed him the ball, got a full ride scholarship to a Texas college (can’t remember the exact one) they said the scholarship was for his sportsmanship.
Texas Tech I googled and found an article from 2018 this story made headlines and the(then) head if Texas Tech saw it was like thats the kind of person he wants at his school so got his staff to get his number and called and offered him a scholarship!
My kid was playing in a high school bball game, and they were losing badly. The opposing coach put a special needs player in the for the last few minutes. At first the game went on as normal but soon everybody realized what was going on. The opposing players were feeding the SN player the ball same as in the video, but he just couldn't get it to go in. The ball bounced to my kid who then fed it very intentionally to the SN player on the opposing team who immediately put it through the hoop. The place went nuts. I was never so proud of my kid, and it still brings tears to my eyes today.
This brought tears to my eyes. I love to see how they had love for him even in the last moments of the game. God I pray for many blessing for Jonathan his family and both teams and their families couching staff and the whole school.
@@neiltristanyabut I would rather live my life believing in God, and die to find there is none, Than to live my life as if there isn't a God, and die to find out there is. In God We Trust!
@@jrlaymance exactly. if it's just your life, then by all means. that's part of your freedom but your religion and its followers trying to dictate the lives of others, esp. those who clearly do not share that religion? no wonder people fought back and wrestled their governments from theocracy
I had to play this story 4 or 5 times over with tears of joy rolling down my face. 😂 Two beautiful people sharing 1 beautiful moment, inspiring thousands. God bless moments like these. 🙏🏾
Made my day !! My son is autistic too but you have to live with him to know it!! Kids are so cruel to him but he is such a beautiful soul inside and ou!! I just hope the world see this video!!
I'm from El Paso and played Basketball at Hanks High School. I remember playing JV ball and my coach ( Coach Meili ) told me to let a particular player on the other team steal the ball from me. I did it not knowing why but after the game was over i realized what he was doing and I'll never forget that moment as long as I live.. He recognized a moment that could be greater than the sport itself... What a coach
Some things mean more than the score. For this child and his parents to have this small moment of joy to share with others is a true blessing. The boy who passed him the ball is a young man with vision and compassion for others. Remember, it’s a funny thing about special needs. We all have them. Well done young man.
I'm not an emotional guy... but damn it! Right when he made that bucket there was some dust in the air or cat hair or something and I had to wipe my eyes.
I'm almost 50 years old now and a father... watching this made tears flow from my eyes like Niagra Falls... Cudos to the opposing team player who gave him the ball at the end!
That story is an inspiration for me, my community, and the world. What would the world look like if we all threw some kindness at others - it is a beautiful thing.
It reminds me of the South Park episode where the kids go up against an NHL team and you see the other side of the story. Lotta kids on the losing team lost to charity whether they liked it or not. Rudy
It's absolutely amazing when you give a special needs child his dream to a star in whatever they are truly passionate about I couldn't stop the tears it was so beautiful
when i saw this video at church i cryed it rilly shows there are some grate people and there willing to give up the game for Mitchel man that tuched my heart and l will never for get it im going to let all my friends know.
Very happy event. Why is everyone crying so hard? You should be happy😊 I mean he gave him the ball. Thats all it was a very nice gesture and good sportsmanship too. We need more people like this in the world today.
i hate these bullshit ' lets make the poor disabled kid / adult feel good, and feel like they accomplished something, its cruel, it actually does not help them, its giving them a lie to live. but a genuine real story where, yes, they are doing this n that, not just '' feeling'' but are literally actually DOING and EARNING is what we need to see and hear.
I have autism.. this is not the way to handle this Now he failed with people trying to help him which only makes you feel like more of a failure Did nobody listen to George carlin growing up? I’m a 90s guy and I did. How did this help this guy learn to overcome obstacles?
I disagree. I coached baseball for years and there was a player with autism, he was non verbal. Every team in the league new and every time the kid went to bat the pitcher would toss lightly until he got a hit and no one would make a play to get him out. It was a home run every time. All players and fans stood and cheered as he ran the bases. The joy from this kid and his parents is something I can’t even describe.
When in high school, my son's team played a team with a special needs player. Their coach asked if he got the ball to let him shoot. No problem. He posted it up just outside the 3 point line to one side. They passed him the ball, and he took a shot. All net. They fed him the ball several more times. All net. He was a ringer from one spot. After several 3 point shots, my son's coach said we have to try and block his shot. When they blocked it, their fans lost their minds. They went as far as making threats.
I have to disagree with the sentiments expressed throughout the comments. If tomorrow, I become disabled or chronically I'll please don't patronize me. I am also a big hoops fan. I would be pissed if the Mavericks made me an honorary player for a game and then the opposing Lakers played down to me. That would only add insult to injury
You don't get it OG people are lying on here to pretend they are good nice people.. if someone wasn't slow and just sucked at basketball they'd laugh and boo him off the court
"It wasn't the game-winning shot................." Yes, it was. For Mitchell it was. He's never going to forget getting that basket for the rest of his life - and it was game-winning for him. The brotherhood that exists in sports teams; the big, tough pros who can knock over a dozen other players with ease; who can scoop the ball a fraction of a second before an opposing team player can get it; these are the same "brotherhood" who will blow the last game of the season, who will accept multiple penalties for handing the ball back to the opposing team, giving up any hope of winning the game, so that one special needs teammate can go home with a goal scored. This is true sportsmanship. There isn't a trophy shiny enough or big enough to really portray the "winners" that these players are.
I agree if you suck you suck.. if the kid wasn't slow and just sucked and basketball they wouldn't let him on the court at all and people would laugh at him
Can you imagine the parents of the kid that threw that young man the ball so he could make a bucket... I'll bet you they were in tears too. Major props to both of those kids that loved the game so much
