80 years ago, people fought hard to prevent segregation. Now, they are a Ty trying to segregate themselves. It’s totally asinine. Raven is 100% on the money ❤
No one fought to prevent segregation. Black people fought to end it, or at the very least allow black people to exist with the same rights given to white people. But in regards to wanting to separate ourselves, that's somewhat true. While under segregation black people worked with each other better, and under one accord. Segregation ended that

@@englanduk6131well her saying Louisiana actually makes more sense because imo the only real difference in cultures between America is states at most, for example in Louisiana u have creole/cajun, gumbo the mask, it’s a culture of its own and same for Texas, but in America it’s a habit of saying yt blk Asian and nationalities, which are technically not a race, all the time. I never understood if I dated a white lady from Texas, that’s automatically a different culture. An actual culture difference imo would be a lady from Africa or Europe. I promise u if we had actual race logic in America for example some places consider 75%+ euro or Afro full but it’s multi generational mixed/mulatto (middle ground boxes), America would realize how many mixed ppl it is in today’s time. It’s plenty of ppl like raven identifying as blk definitely mgm(hodgetwins/stephen curry/beyonce/michael b Jordan/dave Chappell) but of course they automatically blk. Ppl also say they don’t like one drop rules on both parties but only consider ppl mixed directly from a parent identifying as yt. That’s also y ppl identify nationality as race in America because many mgm but it’s no middle ground in America and maybe if we understood we all fall back into boxes as a stupid social construct, maybe we would be better off. I have cousins with a white great grandparents and dna test 80%+ African, they still should accept their mix at that point even though they blk by the race view. But I also have family 60/40 75/25 all very mgm and identify as blk from Louisiana

Color no scene that’s American to deny deny don’t take accountability or recognize that color of you skin trumps over the content of your character as soon as they see you.
It is certain White Americans who remind Black Americans that they’re not “American”. And that experience as “other” Americans is WHY they identify as “African American”, because it is a term that excludes them from being just “American” not because they don’t want to be just “American”, but because they aren’t allowed to be just “American” by certain White Americans. It’s assuming the identity imposed by others. Some, like Raven, are tired of being excluded from being just “American”, but she’s blaming the wrong people for the “African American” identity. White Americans who view themselves as just “Americans” are largely the ones who created the “African American” identity to exclude Blacks as only Americans. Raven simply doesn’t want to perpetuate the dynamics. But she pushing back against the wrong group. She must push against the those White people that exclude Blacks as Americans.
I don't understand what is so hard about this concept! Your skin color doesn't make you African, European, Asian, Mexican, etc. What makes someone any one of those things is 1. Being BORN there or 2. Living/breathing a specific culture to that region. A typical black American is not African in the most meaningful sense of the label, they are just black Americans most of the time and there ain't nothing wrong with being a black American.
I believe that she's absolutely correct. If I go overseas to Europe, they would label me as American because that's where I come from. Now I can say historically speaking that my ancestors come from Ireland, however, if I go to Ireland, they are not going to say that I'm Irish. They are going to say that I'm American. So that's what I go with.

Same here, I have Mexican ancestry and my parents were born in Texas i think some of my grandparents came from Mexico but I'm not sure. But I was born and raised in America(Texas) and when I'm asked what am,,well I say Texan, but I'm American. I've got friends who parents are from Mexico and seeing what real Mexican culture is to what I thought it was it's so far from each other and made me realize I really don't know what true Mexican culture is, but I know where I'm from and am damn proud.
Same here. Just like people don't refer to themselves as Japanese American or United Kingdom American or Canadian American or Salvador American. It's ridiculous, but it's all been part of their little plan 🤦🏻♀️
The color of her skin is relevant because she exists within a racist system, so her skin color has affected her life. While racism exists, pretending we don’t see race is to pretend racism doesn’t exist, which enables that racism to continue unchecked. It is the privilege of white people to pretend not to see race, because they are only affected by racism in positive ways. They do not benefit from acknowledging it. This isn’t anti-white racism; I’ve said nothing bad about any race of people. I’ve merely described a system. Also, I’m white. At best, “colorblind” is something well-meaning white people pretend to be. At worst, it is abject cowardice and self-service.

Because every white person knows what country their people come from lol none of the white people who came to America had that info systematically stripped from their brain and lineage. That’s why there is a different title for black Americans.

The only issue with it that there is is that people are racist/ discriminatory, but in general being a Black American is ok same as White American and anything else. Should we all be equals and stand as one when it comes down to it?
