Regardless of her occupation, her purpose of this speech is to inform others that they can become whatever they work hard to become!!!

The greatness of this lady is her vulnerability. She uses that to connect with everyone and disarm them completely. An eloquent speaker, driven with an acute sense of purpose, she had it all before she came to Harvard. And yet, she is so unassuming and says the Harvard graduates are better off than most - and then cautions them saying they will all face difficulties in the journey of life, but if they follow through with the moral compass within themselves, they will emerge from a temporary setback to become more of who they are and they will be ok. Amazing pointer for young ones starting out, regardless of who they are. Ms. Winfrey, you sure did ok ;-) Thank you.
After receiving the Cecil B Award and being impressed with her speech, I've decided to hear more of her speeches. She's quite motivational....wow! One of a kind.
Oprah is motivationally sound and excellent speaker thanks to God given genes she spoke with much firepower which audiences are thrilled about. If she is a British subject she would be awarded the OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth 11 or preferebly by King Charles 111. A brother of mine got a scholarship to Harvard from Ireland. He got first class honours and was doing a BA in Law.........He is now chief barrister with a large International company..His children have done very well in life also......Wonderful, he thought Harvard was and when he came home he had a young woman on his arm. Harvard had a brilliant young man, my brother and nurtured him and he did very well in his life. Thank you Harvard and of course Miss Oprah Winfrey
To be honest, for long time I thought Oprah to be a lucky talkshow host being at the right time at the right place. But in the past weeks I saw several interviews and speaches of her, and this woman is just amazing. Very inspirational.

This was my graduation and it's the first time I saw the "Oprah effect." When she was up there receiving her degree one, of the professors hugged her and another one was like "wait...we can hug Oprah?? So then they all did it with these huge grins. It was a sight to see because even though in this speech she shows her admiration for Harvard, in the beginning it was the other way around. To see these professors in awe of her was kind of amazing. Disclaimer: that day was hot as hell, and as amazing as I knew this would be, I had to leave early for water and A/C. I saw this on RU-vid the next day like everyone else! Lol
Thanks Oprah, that message was inspiration to all those haters that prey on your down fall. Anything is possible and you're a living witness to tell the story.

I look to these videos to learn life lessons, and quite possibly others got lessons that relate to them, but the only hard education I got from Oprah's speech is to make your resume the story of who you want to be and the reinforcement of finding happiness within the highest, most truthful expression of the self. Besides that, it seems like a regular Oprah show.

It's just a school.... Math is math, science is science, english is english anywhere you go in the world. The beauty of education does not lie in the institution you go but in the desire to learn and make use of what you learn.
austin darling Actually I don't think there's much difference between the cost of university's at least around the top few. And there are a lot of subsidies plus most of the top few institutions accept students based on merit and not background. So the more drive to learn you show, the higher chances you have of getting into a good school and using better facilities to quench your thirst for knowledge :D There really is not much brainwashing going on here. The concept is fair and simple. There are financial incentives too, if you can't afford a good school like say Harvard.
