Even from the Nerdy perspective your explanations on configuring a Linux server to host WordPress sites was quite clear and easy to understand...Thanks :)

@@IdeaSpot My only issue Alex was trying to point the IP address in Cloudflare (My Namecheap already pointing to Cloudflare) when executing wo site create mysite.com --wpfc --php74 -le the SSL cert failed because IP coming from cloudflare did not match linode server IP. A message came up to run the tag "---force" but I did not know how to do that after the fact. I deleted the linode and domain and started from scratch pointing the DNS for linode directly from namecheap similar to your godaddy instructions and it worked.
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Good work troubleshooting, and you have an important point - cloudflare uses a proxy IP, so using --force will work around that issue. Rather than delete the whole vps you can delete an individual site with: wo site delete example.com or you can just update the site to use ssl & force with: wo site update example.com --le --force I think i'll add these tips to the blog since a lot of people will want to run this with cloudflare too!

@@IdeaSpot Well, maybe it is a bit more frightening for someone that never used a console before but at the same time the possibility of managing it all with such a small set of commands probably will help overcoming that barrier.

👍👍 Are the default ngingx configuration is enough for fast performance on a vps with 4 cpu or is more fine tuning needed for nginx? A ngingx configuration blueprint is needed.

thanks alex. I really want to move from my not so great name cheap shared hosting, but I am nervous I will mess up the transfer. I think I will try Linode and word ops.
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
its going to be a lot more complex than using share hosting for sure, maybe just get a cheap .site or .space domain and experiment a little first to get some confidence. I remember the learning curve was pretty steep the first time I moved away from shared hosting.

Great video! Can you do the same with vultr, maybe with different settings - Redis? Would that be even better/faster?
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Thanks 🙏 Vultr will have a bit of a performance edge, not sure redis would make a notable difference here - I think the fastcgi is often the faster one under load > wp-rocket.me/blog/redis-full-page-cache-vs-nginx-fastcgi/#section-6

What's the advantages of using Lenode with WordOps over, for example, Vultr plus Plesk? Pricewise is looks the same and with plesk you have a real cpanel...
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Linode $1 cheaper, but vultr is a bit faster - free plesk has a limit of 3 domains. That’s really the only difference, so I still mostly prefer vultr

Great video! Is it possible to install WordPress sites without pointing domain first? I would want to install the site and have a temporary address on the server (like on Cloudways) then when I'm done I can point the domain from the registrar. This way there's no disruption in the case of migrating a site. Thanks in advance.
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Thanks, good question! I haven’t tried but it should be possible to install SSL before pointing the domain, after that you can edit your hosts file on your pc to manually point the domain to your wordops IP, then you can work on your word ops site and do your migration before it’s time to point the dns over to the Wordops IP. So it won’t be as easy as a cloudways temporary domain method but you should still be able to do a migration without downtime
@marlonmc9351
@marlonmc9351 3 года назад
@@IdeaSpot I appreciate the reply. I'm your "average person" (lol) when it comes to VPS and the commands so will have to research what you said and see if it makes sense. I was hoping there would be a built-in way to do this in the interface. Anyway keep up the great work Alex👍🏽
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
@@marlonmc9351 Yes, its not going to be a simple process for sure :D the basic process would be something like this: www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-move-wordpress-to-a-new-host-or-server-with-no-downtime/ If you can accept a little downtime it will be easier, just launch the new site, setup a quick 'coming soon' plugin placeholder page and run 'all-in-one migration' or maybe WPvivid
@marlonmc9351
@marlonmc9351 3 года назад
@@IdeaSpot Yes, I may have to just accept that there'll be some downtime. I have Backup Guard Pro so would use that but as you said, work fast by adding a maintenance mode plugin and I guess let people know that there'll be some disruption. Have a great day!
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Sounds like a decent plan 👍 & if you run into any trouble during the restore you can always point the dns back to your old site and keep working on the new site privately by editing your hosts file like I linked above (step 4)

Hey Alex, how can I add a new domain (with SSL) without wordpress preinstalled? If I want for example to import my own files & db manually (without any plugins)? Thanks

hi! what about Vultr + WordOps? is that faster than linode WordOps? another question i have is, is the WordOp server optimization comparable to cloudways server optimization?
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Fairly similar optimization options in cloudways and wordops - vultr high frequency is faster than linode, but costs $1 more
@jamesmarsh4047
@jamesmarsh4047 3 года назад
Just to clarify: linode is faster and has website limits and 5 bucks? That’s the advantage? But is more complicated ?
@jamesmarsh4047
@jamesmarsh4047 3 года назад
I mean no website limits. So Vultr yiu have to pay more for more than 3 sites?
@IdeaSpot
@IdeaSpot 3 года назад
Wordops will run on basically any of them, but the free plesk edition is only on vultr, digital ocean, and aws and comes with the 3 domain limit. Vultr $6 high frequency is fastest and linode $5 comes second I decided to test wordops because i wanted to test linode and wordops could do all the things I wanted for free, with a little difficulty but not too bad - I tried virtualmin, open lite speed, and easy engine before setting on wordops 😅

18:09 Email options you are asking people not to host their email from VPS. why? When People buy Cpanel based hosting, they used email there. For VPS you are saying no.
