Hi everyone, thank you for your time of 18:44. In this video I will update the Old Optimus 8R Gasoline / Gasoline Stove. I bought the stove at the flea market for 3 euros.
Soviet portable fuel storage furnace primus 8r. I did a little research on the internet and discovered that this stove was manufactured for the Soviet Red Army. I didn't find any more information. If anyone knows more information about this stove, write in the comments.
Any comment, criticism and suggestion are welcome.
I hope you find something useful and enjoy this video!

I have this stove. Bot new Many years ago as a 'second burner' for my Svea123R. My most used camp stove! Totally Reliable! But use only Coleman fuel. You didnt let it warm up enough at the end - it will roar with a nice blue flame when running properly. I have never had to disassemble mine, but now know how. That flip shield over the tank is to prevent over-pressure with a wide pot. Thanks. Nice job. Jerry

@@fastfixks Thanks for the heart and reply. Coleman fuel is cleaner than white gas, but that works too. I have only ever used Coleman fuel, and after 50+ years, it still runs like new! Dont let it run dry or you could char the wick. I also have the mini-pump and special cap for it. Helps with self priming and cold weather operation. There are some different versions, my primer cup just unscrews. Regarding the 123R, I have the Sigg Tourist cook kit for it, use the naked svea in a double boiler kinda thingus. It cooked Many good meals on canoe trips for us! We used the 8R for a second burner, but now my main stove. Thanks again! Jerry

Very nice. For a "Soviet Union" copy of the Optimus 8R they are just as good. I prefer the soviet one for the ease of dismantling the box. And for only 3 euro's you got a bargain.

Great video Thank you. I bought one new in the 60s. Back then we used a paste, like sterno, in a tube to heat the burner. When it runs it sounds like a jet. I still use it and the oven that Optimus made for them. It and the Optimus candle lamp is what I used all through scouting.

Nice restoration! But all that cleaning and you preheated(obviously not long enough, hence no blue flames) with gasoline and sooted it up badly. I recommend using alcohol to prime if you like to keep things soot free. But you have to prime longer. Also, I find that I get a quicker prime by injecting the alcohol into the burner bell between the bell and the impingement plate. The bell has drain holes in it to allow the priming fuel to drain into the pan below, but some remains in the bell for a more thorough preheat. Regardless, if the flame is yellow like that, you need to stop and prime it some more. Hope this helps.

This is a soviet stove. PT-1 ( ПТ-1 in cyrillic alphabet), also known as "The tourist's death" (Смерть туриста) or Satchel charge (подрьiв пакет). Of course, it doesn't live up to those names, because it's sturdy and reliable. As far as I know the main differences with Optimus 8R are: 1. Steel tank on PT-1 and brass tank on Optimus. PT-1 is said to be more prone to rust. 2. Paint on the outer box- the Optimus is usually blueish and the PT-1 greyish. Also, the PT-1 has that triangular sticker. 3. Parts are not interchangeable- there are differences in the threads. 4. The fuel cap on the PT-1 is not compatible with the pump for the 8R- it only serves as a safety pressure-release valve. Hope this helps :)

AFAIK, EVERY popular self-pressurized stove has "scary" name. "Barthel-bombe" (Juwel-33), "borde bomb" (Borde), "Sweden hand grenade" (Svea 123) and so on.

@springplus300 9 месяцев назад
To be fair, this specific compact form factor (the same as the 8R) IS well known for spewing jets of burning fuel from the pressure release valve if you use it for too long with a too large pot. An issue that, to my knowledge, the 111 model never had (it was not quite as compact).

This was an interesting video. It's an attractive stove with a compact burner that can be used in modern times without any problems. Perhaps the official name of this stove is "Primus Tourist one". It was manufactured by Motol Sich, a Ukrainian company famous for its aircraft, and is a copy of the Optimus 8R. It is a copy of the Optimus 8R, but it is so elaborately made that it cannot be called a mere copy. In Japan, stoves of this shape have recently been gaining popularity. The early models of the Optimus 8R are especially famous and expensive. The PT1 is also becoming more and more popular in Japan, although it is not as well known as the 8R. Although it is a vintage product, it is considered to be as robust and reliable as the 8R. As a side note, EVER NEW also made a prototype model that may be a copy of 8R, and the prototype has been sold at auction.

The Stove you have restored is a replica / copy of the renown Swedish made stove. The original stoves had a brass fuel canister and ran on petrol or shellite aka white spirits. These original Optimus stoves are now collectable and fetch a decent sum. Mine is now 40 years old is still functions as intended - although contemporary stoves are both much quieter and more efficient. Some models were equipped with fuel bottles and or pumps. If pumps are not fitted a priming paste is required to pre-heat the burner. This is the purpose of the dish beneath the burner. A little fuel dropped in here should be adequate for pre-heating.
@fastfixks
@fastfixks 3 года назад
The original Swedish oven is OPTIMUS 8, without R. I found on the internet that this is an Optimus 8R, with an R. In the comments, some wrote that this is a Russian stove intended for civilian use for camping. Someone wrote that this is a primus pt-1. Now you're saying it's a Swedish copy .... For these reasons, I would not know what the name of this stove is, but it was important to me that the viewers liked it. What exactly it's called ... doesn't matter that much. Thank you for watching and generous comment.
