I made this short video to help you to do some small addons and modification to your SVEA 123R to make it a bit better for cold weather use.
These modifications makes this small stove be even better and more useful.
The kettle i'm using is a Snow Peak ti solo and the french press is from Primus.

I just love the sound this stove makes and I like the mods you've done to make this stove your own. I removed the chain from the valve key, it was annoying to me, and put it on a small paracord lanyard. I store this stove with a specific pot and pan set from Optimus, fits like a glove with no leaking fuel issues. Thanks for sharing this and I hope you still enjoy your stove, cheers from Canada!

A great little stove. I have it's cousin, the Optimus 8R Hunter which uses the same burner mechanism. Tips .. for what they are worth * Useful spares to keep include the Graphite Packing in the Burner Control Stuffing Box and the Gasket in the Filler Cap / Pressure Release Valve. I had to renew the Packing some 10 years ago and the Gasket last year. Bought the stove new in the mid-70's .. not a bad run so far 👍. * Something from an Instructor in the Swedish Military. NEVER use the built-in jet cleaner while the stove is still very hot i.e. just after use. This could result in the cleaning needle 'heat-fusing' in the jet, necessitating repair / replacement of parts. He wrote that more than a few recruits under his care have chosen to ignore his well-intended advice, resulting in 'Corrective Drills' to clear up the misunderstanding 😊.

Hello from Finland. I got my svea 123r last autumn and I really like it and use it a lot, but the priming and starting has been difficult in cold temperatures. Although the winter is over soon, I'm going to copy that wick-thingie around the vaporizer. Priming looks so much more effecient that way. Thank you for the tip!

Use a small insulation mat in the bottom also. It will increase the pressure in the tank. I bought my fiberglass wick from Biltema. "LASIKUITUPAKKAUKSET"

If you plan to use your Seva in cold temperatures in the minus 20 F -29 C I use a cork square under the stove to insulate it from the ground and make sure you over fill the spirit cup as wells as have a wind screen around the stove. You should be able to get full pressure. I find my Optimus 00 with a pressure pump is a little easier to get to full flame in extreme cold. But they both are work horses in the cold. I like the loud roar of the burner It lets me know how hot the flame is burning.

While outdated, the Svea 123R still makes for a nice compact piece of kit. Many thanks for passing sharing the small pipette idea. silicone

I have exactly the same setup except I use a small syringe and now I must get a pot grip. Had it for 20 years. I use petrol not white gas.

Hei! Noen år siden du lastet opp denne videoen.

Why don’t you use alcohol for preheating your stove? No black soot that way and works better.
@hfokdvik
@hfokdvik 4 месяца назад
I have used alcohol and alcohol paste before. Now do i only use gasoline. It's saves space and weight in my backpack and one less thing to remember when you pack. But alcohol is absolutely a wallid option to preheat. I have never had anny problem with soot on my stowes. So i don't notise anny difference between alcohol and gasoline for preheating.

Very pleased with mine bought about three weeks ago. I might add fire rope or fire felt in the priming bowl, good idea thanks. But unlike you I am not a lover of the noise. Very willing to buy your silencer!? Thanks for the interesting video.
@hfokdvik
@hfokdvik 4 года назад
Thanks for the comment. The rope or felt will help preheating your stow. It's a robust stow. I have it with me on every trip i take. And I hike, paddle or ski over 100 days a year. Ofcourse can you buy it. Where in the world are you living so i could calculate shipping? My e-mail is henrifol@online.no

How far down in temps is it rated for?, beautiful stove design.

The stove works on whitegass so it will burn pretty cold. I have been using it in - 34° Celsius without anny isues as long i have it on an insulationmat. But i don't know how far it's rated for.

Maybe this will fit. snowpeak.com/products/ti-mini-solo-combo-scs-004t The SVEA 123 R have the same diameter as a Nalgene bottle. A 750 ml pot that's fit the Nalgene bottle will most likely fit over the SVEA. The Alu cup will not fit under the pot.

Dear sir, I noticed you had it turned off the wrong way, that way you have just blocked the jet with the needle pricker, the correct way is to turn it fully to the right (clockwise) this closes the pointed throttle tip into the valve seat, I have 4 of these and I repair them for people as well, so I know what I am talking about, trust me.
@connorf6862
@connorf6862 3 года назад
Does this go for the 8R as well? close it by turning clockwise?

10:54 This silenser is dangerous to use as the stove gets too hot and can explode if the security valve is not safe!

What do you mean, “it’s only 1400 watts, so it’s not that noisy.”? I have no idea what that means.
@hfokdvik
@hfokdvik Год назад
It's a smal stow. I have stowes that put out 2800 watts. And they are alot noysier.

@@hfokdvik I've always measured sound in decibels. I don't know of another way. And as far as the measure of power I've always used BTU’s. Watts is electricity to me.
@hfokdvik
@hfokdvik Год назад
It's right that sound measured in decibels. I haven't measured the noise. BTU's are an imperial measurement that more or less only used in USA and UK. Rest of the world are using the metric system. So her in Norway we are using watts as a measuring unit of effect. And as a rule of thumb when you are putting fuel through a nozzle up into a flame spreader. More Watts equals more noise. BTU = 1 Degree fahrenheit on 1 pound of water. We dont use farenheit or pounds. We use Celsius and kilogram.
@emeryz10
@emeryz10 Год назад
@@hfokdvik, this all makes so much more sense now. I knew the rest of the world didn’t use what we used but I didn’t know what else was common practice. That’s pretty cool. I have some overseas friends and they tell me that even they don’t like using Celsius because the Fahrenheit is better to use when talking about degrees of weather.
@hfokdvik
@hfokdvik Год назад
@@emeryz10 I love to nerd out on numbers and mesurements. So the BTU would be ca 4777 BTU And thank you for asking the question. I learned a lot about BTU, the history and where they us it. Before it was only tree letters for me.
