Hello. I did cataract surgery on the 7th of this month and my vision was ok the day after the surgery but now it is cloudy again. What should I do?
@calebp8637
@calebp8637 11 месяцев назад
Go see the eye doctor. It is common to have a cloudiness after cataract surgery and if they look at it they can find out what is going on. Something called posterior capsular opacification is common post cataract surgery, and is easily treatable. but they can’t know unless you schedule a check up.
@JamesBen-bn4nx
@JamesBen-bn4nx Месяц назад
It's due to posterior capsular opacity which appears after surgery you have to do ND yag laser treatment to treat it or other corneal disorders can be there

In my practice, we have an eyecare professional who specializes in general ophthalmology. To be honest, I am not totally sure what she does exactly as a general ophthalmologist. Could you explain what it means?
@MicheleLeeMD
@MicheleLeeMD 2 года назад
Hi Jason, thanks for watching! Dr. Morrison herself is a subspecialist within optometry and specializes in contact lenses. A general optometrist, like a general ophthalmologist, can do general and medical screening eye examinations, check for glasses, dispense contact lenses, and even manage and monitor for eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, AMD, dry eye, etc. A good optometrist will know when to refer the patient to an ophthalmologist or subspecialist if needed. The scope of practice is very similar except that ophthalmologists have more of a general medical background and do surgery and procedures, and optometrists have more formal clinical training specific to eye care (including dispensing contact lenses). We wanted to make this video since there is a lot of confusion about who does what. Let me know if that helps answer your question!
@AznJsn82091
@AznJsn82091 2 года назад
@@MicheleLeeMD I understand the differences between an optometry and ophthalmology. My question really is, if I were to go to an eyecare provider for any regular exam, should I see an optometrist or a general ophthalmologist? My feeling is that general ophthalmologists are a bit more trained than optometrists in treating eye disorders and health, like dry eye or glaucoma for example. And then obviously be referred to an ophthalmologist if I need further treatment in dry eye or glaucoma. And then conversely, see an optometrist for regular glasses or contact lenses checks since they are more trained in that than ophthalmologists.
@MicheleLeeMD

@@AznJsn82091 Hi again, the question is hard to answer without causing some controversy within both communities, but I pretty much agree with you. If I were a healthy young-ish person who wanted glasses or contacts, I would want to see an optometrist since they have more formal training and experience to refract and dispense contact lenses. If I had medical eye conditions and was close to needing procedures or surgery, then I would want to see an ophthalmologist and maybe even a subspecialist within ophthalmology to address my specific eye condition. In the practices I have worked in, we had both optometrists and ophthalmologists and we all worked together as a team.

@jppierre28

Not really, there is such a thing as an optometric technician who doesn't necessarily need any special education. Think of it more like an optometrist is your primary care doctor and an ophthalmologist is a surgeon.

Too many optometrist are specially trained for vision dedicating all 5 years to it. This heavily focuses on glasses, contact lenses and visual aids that could prevent patients from developing conditions that require highly invasive surgical procedures. Ophthals learn medicine for the whole body for 4 years then specialise eye surgery, systemic ocular conditions and systemic medications for ocular conditions for 3 years. They can perform highly invasive procedures because they have a deep understanding of the whole body from their medical training. You need both.

Optometrist are paramedic who are trained to do refraction and dispensing glass and contact lenses.Better not to go to independent optometrist causs they may miss ur sight threatening conditions.If he or she is working under Opthalmologist thats fine because Opthalmologist is more focused on medical and surgical training.

Your statement shows you have limited knowledge of whom an optometrist is and what their training entails, or in a bigger picture, you are one of the MDs who feel irritated at sighting an optometrist... I guess the ophthalmologist seated there in this video with the optometrist has an indepth knowledge of optometrist l, their training and scope of practice....
