Excellent point, I can’t believe I didn’t show any views while welding- the view area as well as the ability to see my weld puddle is awesome. So much so, I have gotten rid of my other helmets and bought another of the Crystal. The new one does not have the PAPR system or hook ups, so I am able to crawl around and under stuff to weld more easily. I won’t be going back to the cheap helmets! This is the newest one I bought - amzn.to/3veMUqO It is also now available in black (also $20 cheaper) - amzn.to/48r1ObX Thanks for pointing out how I could have made that video better!
Hi, Thank you for this video. Can you tell me if this welding helmet in grinding mode is confortable enough (light passing through the visor) for long grinding sessions or do you miss your Clearmaxx? Thank you for your answer.
It does extremely well in grinding mode, the view area is smaller than the clearmaxx and the fact that I have both gets me to switch back and forth. The clear shields are not cheap on the welding helmet, so I figure I should try to keep it in as good of condition as possible, by not using it for grinding. However if I could only have this welding helmet or a cheaper one and a cheap grinding hood, I would DEFINITELY buy the this set up and for go the Clearmaxx.
If someone already has a PAPR filter system, and on occasion they do not wish to use that PAPR filter and use a regular low-profile welding respirator instead, can this PAPR helmet be used?
It could, there is a “bag” all the way around your face, and without the fan running it gets pretty stuffy. I bought another welding helmet (same one) but without the PAPR attachments, for use as you are describing. amzn.to/3PLKkzp You could also take the “bag” out of the PAPR helmet if you wanted, but that seemed like a major pita!
@@AllisonCustoms Second Question if I bought a non papr helmet, can it be upgraded to a PAPR version after the fact or is there some unique parts to the PAPR version. Thanks for answering my questions btw, Im narrowing it down to the 3M G5-03 or the Optrel
I would think it could be upgraded, but I’m honestly not sure. I haven’t seen the parts available separately, other than replacement fabric hoods, and that Velcros in. The piece you would need to look for is the hose attachment point.
@@grantcooper532Interesting I'm in Ireland so I don't have to worry about NIOSH, I haven't come across anything similar over here so far. As far as I can tell there isn't anything actually different between the two once the papr parts are added. I can understand the rule applying to a standard helmet with no ability or factory parts to make it into a papr.
