Soprano Elisabeth Grümmer (1911-1986) sings Donna Anna's first aria from Don Giovanni (1954 Salzburg Production). Conducted by Furtwangler. Anton Dermota sings Ottavio.
Grümmer has always been my favorite Donna Anna. What impresses me most in this video is her acting - she started off as an actress and it shows - her mimics are so expressive and she doesn‘t use the typical singers‘ gestures (like her Ottavio, the great Anton Dermota does). A great Performance.
Beautiful as is Grümmer's singing qua singing, even more impressive is the ineffable glow or aura she was able to create, a 'je ne sais quoi' that suffused every note she sang, even without benefit of visuals. It can be heard most clearly in the 1954 Salzburg Agathe, under Furtwängler.
@@FigaroPS Who cares, Mozart was not Italian and he immediately translated "Don Giovanni" to German. Most of true mozartian singers come actually from Germany or Austria.
