@@DB2_Oracle I haven't yet but I will tomorrow. I have to duplicate a db to another server, but they also want it updated on a daily basis. I will let you know and excited to try it.

Awesome explanation.!!! I would like to know why you specified the dbname, control, audit, and redo files locations in the rman block when these file locations are already specified initORA22.ora file?

if source db is already gone, is it possible to use this ?if yes what change should be?

Yes, it is possible. You perform duplication by connecting to the auxiliary instance. Use backups of the source database that are stored in a disk location on the destination host. Note - There are other method of duplicating your database if you have the backups. And you do not have to use RMAN DUPLICATE command.
