solid state amps forever. My favourite amp of all time is a Peavey Musician 400. I've played Oranges, Marshalls, Fenders, Mesas, Sovteks, 5150s etc.. and no amp and no person has ever given me a convincing argument that I need to play a tube amp. Solid state amps are reliable, cheap, unique and sound great and you can't change my mind

Also, as someone who has been playing for about 25 years I’ve got to stop and say that this is the best time to be a guitarist. In my experience, solid state is better at lower frequencies than tube. My non-scientific guess is probably having to do with the fact that for most solid and tube amps of a similar perceived volume, the solid state has more RMS wattage. While the tube can be driven into pleasing distortion in the mid and high frequencies, that does mean that the solid state has more clean power, and for lower frequencies, they need that energy to move. Consider that most bass amps these days are class D solid state these days. You can't beat clean RMS wattage when it comes to low frequencies.

It's tough because they're both great on their own way. As someone not overly into the big trend of too much "modern" stuff, I love the throaty bass sound of the rockerverb for the sludgier stuff, but the supercrush is superclose! haha. Def has some great things going for it for sure, and quite possibly end up the guts to my next rig. I would to see a more in depth comparison in a less "middle of the road" setting though, and also comparisons of their FX loop sections. That price point though... hard to knock back. Great video.

I'd have the Orange solid state series over any tube amp now. Owned and gigged many different tube amps (vintage suitcase to large stacks) and they are superb, but the delicacy, tube changing and potential for failure isn't worth it. The Crush series are so good now, that it isn't worth the extra hassle.

the orange amps are clearly made for singing single notes that doom, stoner, southern, and sludge heads crave for. But it's pretty cool to hear it can also do the tight metal stuff albeit you gotta need an overdrive for that hyper modern djenty djent stuff.

I used to do a hybrid of a tube amp at home, and a ss for gigging until I sold the tube amp. Not gonna lie, I sold the amp for financial reasons, but I love the SS (I use a quilter 100w head), it’s hard to beat as a pedal platform! For most purposes in the 21st century, I think the crush is more than enough firepower. It won’t have the squishy tube compression, but it’s nothing a bit of practice can’t fix. For a home/studio rig I can see people getting something fancier, but that’s another story.

I'm even considering buying this amp as a "head".... We don't do "metal" but we are at home in rock/hard rock. After several recordings in the rehearsal room, as a guitarist you have to frustratedly realise that your fellow musicians can't hear the difference between "Tube and Solid State". So why carry heavy loads and buy expensive tubes?

The early version of ss amps where just using schematics of tube amps but replacing each triod with a bjt transistor (e.g. : fender ss 80's silverface). No surprise that sucks. But if a competent EE design a solid state amp from scratch no wonder he can totally achieve same tone as tube amps and in many way outperform it. Big company like fender and Marshall just did not bother to hire competent EE and/or leave them freedom to do the right thing. Add to that very often they where sold paired with shitty speakers and no wonder ss amps got bad rep.

That's funny. When you started the first Tone, I was like: "that's a transistor". Then you played the second one and I was like: "They (almost) sound the same." Not a fan of the sound of this amp. Ok but do you have them both running through the same cabinet??? If not you’re hearing the difference in the cab and speakers.

Ia there a difference in volume?

I love tube amps, but my favorite amp of all time is a SS amp. The Ampeg VH140C.

Kristian, on the Super Crush crank the master volume and bring down the channel volume to taste. This adds resonance and openness to the transistor amp.

Really? You mean this will add highs and lows? I don’t understand why this should be the case though, but whatever 😊 I’ll try next time

@@KohleAudioKult It kinda emulates a cranked amp or "amp in sweet spot". In digital form Audio Assault did that on the RVXX plugin with the master knob. THR10 Yamaha, too.

Hi! Do you have that high pitched sqealing noise when cranking the dirty Channel Volume and gain ?
@MK-oz2lf
@MK-oz2lf Год назад
@@davidklaus194 if you’re using a boost it sounds like you have too much output and might need to lessen it and a noise gate will help too

@@MK-oz2lf I Just made some interesting Observations: 1. No cable in the amp Input, dirty Volume and gain cranked: No Sound No Matter how high master 2. Now Just the cable into the amp without cable plugged into guitar, dirty Volume and gain cranked: squealing Sound even with master very Low. 3. Now Plug cable into guitar: same as 2. 4. Now: again dirty Volume and gain cranked, master between 1 and 2 Amp

there is a 10 percent transient clarity or punch with the tube a bit more fur or veil with the tranny, good sound still more glued, in a mix i would choose tube

Suppose you could use an eq pedal in the effects loop of the super crush and make them sound even closer

As an Rockerverb 100 Mk3 owner i must say the Rockerverb sounds better. 😂 with boost sounds killer 🔥

Supercrush clean channel is brilliant, throw an eq pedal in fx loop and a dirt pedal into clean chaand your in punk heaven

I liked the super crush better. The transient was a bit punchier on the chugs. Both were nice and chewy in the mids.

For the bedroom player the SC100 is the way to go. You're not going to hear, or get, the benefits of the tubes until you get to neighbors-calling-the-cops volume levels. Orange has done an amazing job with their solid state amps. I tried out a friend's Crush 35 and was impressed. It's hard to find a better solid state amp at these price points Orange is selling them at.

I've mostly had solid state amps over the years , I doubt their an audible difference in a full band mix .

Is their output relatively the same?? I’ve been really looking at one of the Super Crush heads, but all my tube fanatic friends keep telling me the solid state 100w won’t be loud enough

I could not test the loudness on that day. Sorry for that!
