The reason for that is because you have different characters playing different personalities. You have the smart one, the not so smart one, serious one, the douchebag, the nice person, the clown, the crazy one. You should watch the office if you like shows with lots of casting.

I don't get all the Piper hate. I do admit that she can get annoying sometimes, but hell, she's fucking funny to watch. Taylor Schilling is a remarkable actress, everytime she's on screen it always feels so natural and never cringy. Plus, Piper makes the show interesting. think about the butterfly effect and you'll realize that without her alex freida and lolly wouldn't share that amazing body dismemberment scene, and there won't be a prison riot. Piper made a huge mess, of course, but without those messes the show would be wayy less interesting.
Little late, but are you aware she cheated on his husband in prison, lied to him about it and thanks to her his family hates him? And before you say he lied to her first about Amy, he did that to protect her in her first week in prison.
I just don’t like the fact that she was the main character. Yeah I know that they tell most of the women’s stories and it isn’t just piper, but it seemed like she was made to be the main character. She’s really annoying too. It feels like she thinks the world revolves around her and she does often make a mess that bleeds into the other characters lives. I don’t know, something about her just makes me dislike her so much. She’s a cheater and a manipulative person.
I liked Piper for the most part, but I can't say I didn't low-key enjoy when she got branded because she absolutely needed to be knocked down a few pegs. That was the only season I disliked her in

Thuggish? No. If anything it’s act tougher and that was everyone in the show at the very beginning. That’s typically what people do at the start of their sentence in a prison.

The whole starve out arc, as short as it was, was really heartwarming in a way. Suzanne helping her for nothing, Red not assuming Piper is gonna mace her, Piper doing that at all, in prison, with such limited resources. The whole thing was sweet to me.

It's funny, Suzanne became one of the most humane, sweetest and actually oddly I think one of the most realistic characters. Her character growth from season 1 - 5 was really really huge. Sure season 6 set her off but, honestly it threw everyone...even the viewer. I really believe her character arc was amazing. Also the fact that almost every person in Ritchfeild is pretty darn loyal to her goes to show that she is at heart a good person.

NO. Piper is great for the role. If she's affecting you it means that she's a GREAT actress. Like OK so is uzo but I think she's overrated plus crazy eyes is annoying
Heather Bowlan uzo is a great actor but she wouldn't fit piper and pipers the main character. Oitnb is based on a true story so they can't just switched the whole thing up to make uzo the lead
