Radxa Rock5b has been out for an entire year and still the software side of things are lacking. Orange pi comes out and pretty much immediately has a ton of support . It’s frustrating
There is a model of chipset cooler with adjustable brackets that installs perfectly on the Orange Pi 5 Plus. Mine has one, used Artic MX-2 thermal paste, and it works great even in passive mode though in hot days it gets a bit too hot to touch. When I find out where to get a connector for the fan, I'll install one.
The other night I was thinking I hope you make a video like this. Then you did... Excellent. Thanks very much. I love the KDE Plasma theme and icon pack you went for. I'm using them both now on my main PC. I like that the video showed you trying to make the perfect setup for a daily driver and you almost got it too. Soon hopefully. Also, yes, KDE Plasma is the correct answer!
Same here. Wayland works much better. I had to do a bit of investigation to make pipewire work under Armbian/Wayland though. Also I'm using the display port on usb-c. Strangely it seems to perform better??
Could you please review the armbian installation for the oranje pi 5 plus with more current systems? I think it would be interesting to revisit this SBC
It is my answer to all people asking - why do you run Ubuntu, when so many nice distros around? Sure, but if you need a machine for a work, not for play, the video is answer.
Generally root access is not authenticable by default (security issues, as we see for desktop installation) in this case in Arbiam is it mandatory to create authentication for root? I'm just starting to learn about this, sorry for the question. Tks

You installed linux using NVME ssd but Do you stressed it? I don't think so, because if you stress it, the system goes down it crashes this board has a lot of wonderful caracteristics but it does not work well, even with sdcard it crashes if you run several process.
do you recommend ubuntu pro? or is regular ubuntu just fine? also I want my orange pi 5 plus to bond 3 modem connections to give me a perfect wireless signal, any recommendation?
Surprised your KDE accelerated install did not work. As long as you're using Jammy as your base (be it server or desktop) it should have. Done a few different Armbian Jammy builds here for the NanoPi here including KDE and SWAY builds that work beautifully. Would of been handy to see the output of glxinfo -B, just to see if accelerated was listed, as you can't really go by the override tags in Chromium.
In my video I showed Raspberry Pi imager. I wrote Ubuntu to nvme for my Pi 5 plus yesterday with imager. Possibly that balena doesn’t unzip some images whereas imager does
Hi, I've been using the optimized ubuntu from joshua on my RK3588S orange pi 5 and it's amazing, tho I have some trouble with compatibility for games when using box86/64. A lot of games like Nuclear Throne or Isaac Rebirth that worked on raspbian on my RPi4 seem to throw out library errors that I am unable to fix so far. Armbian has slightly better success rate but lack of hardware acceleration makes it slow to use and the CPU gets much hotter just in desktop. The weird cut down Gnome on armbian is also less than ideal. I am not looking for tech support here, just wondering if anyone else had similar experiences? At this point I feel like I should just wait for the next version of armbian that has a better desktop experience.
I have been playing with arbian on orange pi 5. Here are my thoughts. I have tried to make chromium video accell - it kept getting worse as I applied fixes. It might be network ( in chromium ) since you get the arrow/circle symbol. I put on Firefox and all was well. Video played well. On loading video drivers, on you video, it complained about not having hardware drivers, but the last thing it said was: Installing ( whatever thing they call ppa ), press enter to continue or control-c to abort. sometimes, the apt system complains when it thinks you need something and do not have it. I would hope that you could have just pressed enter to add ppa. and then add the other one - then do the rest of the steps. I have done the armbian /orange pi/ video access and works great. play video ( not in browser but with smplayer and whatever is default player ) and video playing at something like 640x480 but streach to almost fill screen - get about 3 to 6% busy on cpu util my desktop is either Mate or Cinnamon - as I cannot get KDE to work. Aiddtional note, armbian is ubuntu and the video drivers ( at HW level ) should be desktop independent - so whether you use Mate/Cinnamon/KDE/Unitiy, those commands for video access should work. Now, thank you - I have another lead to try to get KDE to work ( I have not found the right combination besides using Oragne Pi (.com ) pre-loaded OS - which I hate the concept. so try again with kde. and I did not know that sddm was required for KDE - so thanks. If you need more info, I loaded armbian with cinnamon and then added Mate. that is my armbian build.

Interesting. I just got a 5B and have tried 5 OSs so far. I got the best, but crappy performance with Armbian. Josh's build was worse. Too bad none of them worked so great with Firefox though. Chrome blows.
