South Africa's two greatest rivers, the Vaal and the Orange converge just outside the small town of Douglas in the Northern Cape. Here's some drone footage from a visit I paid a visit there earlier this year. Both rivers were very full, notice the difference in colour and also how much slower the Vaal's flow is than the Orange.
From here, South Africa's longest river still has another 900 km before it reaches the Atlantic ocean at Alexander Bay, on the border with Namibia.

I’m Chris, video creator, and lover of road tripping & the great outdoors. Now exploring the off the beaten track, hidden places of Africa, and sharing the adventure in video, photos and words. Kangela is aimed at those who want to experience gravel road travel and off road adventures, but who don’t care as much about the vehicle that gets them there, as they do about the journey itself and the destination.
I try to provide useful tips and background information about the unusual places that we visit, as well as endeavouring to draw attention to conservation, my intention is always to inform, educate and entertain.

Very interesting to see. I've been there years ago (lived in Upington) but drones didn't exist yet.

Drones have made it possible for us ordinary, non pilot, folks to see the world in a totally different way, that's for sure.

Hello Dalene, I don't live in the area, so don't think I would be able to get there this year, but who knows, I will certainly try.

What is the fishing like at the confluence?
@Kangela
@Kangela Год назад
I haven't fished there, but when the river isn't so high I imagine the fishing would be quite good.

My pet peeve is when South Africans don't properly pronunciate. Saw a video yesterday where an Afrikaans guy mispronounced Vaal (pale) River. It is pronounced as Faal or Phaal, not Waal. Names have meaning and some not even trying to pronunciate won't be excused. The Anglicised version typically is just very wrong and condescending, often showing disrespect to indigenous people. This is a general observation and I hope that some reader learns something today.

It is actually an Afrikaans word.. derived from Dutch .. Vaal with an "f" sound and aaaah with L at the end😅... Vaal meaning light brown.. I remember covering school books in primary school with "vaal papier" .. brown paper.. as in brown paper bags? I always wondered as a child why "vaal" .. as in my child mind vaal (colour) actually was the Afrikaans word for the colour grey... Later it changed to "grys".. which was more spot on. Now? 2023? 73 years old? I would not DARE name a colour... they have all these fancy names for them now.. 😅🤣😂
