Orangutan Mom Climbs Tree To Safety With Baby  

Orangutan mother Emma hears the calls of alpha dad Puluh and quickly climbs a huge mature tree with her baby orangutan Hillda clinging onto her. Mom and daughter climb the huge tree with ease in the beautiful outdoor habitat of the Monsoon forest at Chester Zoo. This Sumatran Orangutan family have featured in the popular TV series ' The Secret Life Of The Zoo ' which aired on British TV between 2015 and 2021
Recorded in June 2024 this is current footage of the wonderful Sumatran Orangutan family at the world famous Zoo - Chester Zoo Hillda no longer has the wild and crazy hair she had as a baby, but will get thicker and longer as she matures like her sisters who have beautiful chestnut coloured thick hair
Sumatran Orangutans are Endangered
Sumatran Orangutans are an endangered species of Great Ape, threatened to the edge of extinction, due to the ongoing destruction of the Environment in their native homeland of The Indonesian Island of Sumatra. The destruction of their native forests is largely to make way for the planting of palm oil, which is used in the manufacture of many products in developed nations, such as food products and cleaning products.
Baby Orangutans at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is the only Zoo in the UK to House and Care for Sumatran Orangutans. They are part of the breeding program for this important and vulnerable species, ensuring there is a strong genic population in zoos and wildlife centres across the world, essential for the future survival of these magnificent animals.
These rare Sumatran Baby Orangutans are absolutely adorable and so much fun to watch, Young Sumatran Orangutans interact with each other and learn from the behaviours of other Orangutans in their Family group.
