Brilliant David, excellent review and great advertisement for Mahle/Orbea. That’s why I bought a D40, 3 years ago to get fitter. Now using my carbon road bike more often having built up my strength

Thank you Ian, can I ask do you find much difference in your carbon bike to using the Gain now your fitter? As I’m saving up for a new bike and don’t know if to go for Gain with the new x20 on or go for the new Orca which is around 2000 cheaper? Thank you 😊

@@LakeDistrictcyclist The noticeable difference difference is obviously the weight and components. Giant..Campagnolo Avani, Kuota..SRAM Orbea. Shimano Claris Campag clunky old tec Orbea ok, but S 105 Kuota silky smooth Each bike has its own characteristics. If money were no object then I personally would pick something like Ultegra

Fully agree, it's well worth the money. I've had my D40 for 8 months now and love it. I don't regret not getting the 105, I reckon the Tiagra is the sweet spot for me. The hydraulic brakes are superb; reliable stopping wet or dry. Shifting is super smooth and 10 speed is fine. I've never thought I need another ratio between them, though sometimes on steep climbs I could do with a bigger climbing cog than the 32, but that is fixable when I change the cassette. Chains and cassettes are also cheaper than 11 😊 There is a slight resistance from the motor. If you spin the wheel on a stand and let it spin down it will slow and stop quicker than a normal bike. When riding though I've not noticed this drag at all. I've read that the drag is more if the bike is fully turned off than when it's on but on assist level 0, but I've not tested that.

Thank you yes Tiagra is a fantastic group set as you get the hyydraulic breaks, I had Claris and mechanical so got the 105 at a good price so upgraded. I don’t notice the drag but I’ve also been told on but level 0 is better and usually ride like that 😊

Great video really helpful my orbea gain m30i is due in the shop 28th September. I'm really looking forward to getting it, and testing it out, until my knee went I used to love doing century or longer rides, and hoping the gain will help me do at least 100 mile rides again. Its fairly flat around my area of the fens or slightly more rolling hills if I pop over the border into Northamptonshire or Rutland, but nothing like the Lake District. Which I love. Would like to try it on a multi day journey on the coast to coast, see how it does up Hartside pass.

Well played Sir - me too, best money I've ever spent. Can cycle every day if I want to. Recovery times are almost non-existent. I love my D20..! (Although I've been checking out this new Mahle x20 System.) Really nice, what do you think? William

You have done really well over the last 18 months, your videos are informative and interesting. Have you any idea how much it costs to change and do you charge after every ride,
@LakeDistrictcyclist
@LakeDistrictcyclist Год назад
Usual charge day before a ride and cost to charge takes about 3 hours from 10% to 100% and my smart meter goes up about 4p so not a lot

You could do but would just burn the battery quicker, think what you get is enough imo 😊

A question. I love the style of a road bike, but I've always wondered if this would be suitable for a city. Jumping up kurbs, not perfect road surface/few potholes. I really don't want a mountain bike style bike, but would the D40 cope? How big a tyre can fit?
@LakeDistrictcyclist
@LakeDistrictcyclist Год назад
You can put a 40x700 tyre on so that would cope with most stuff, I’ve 700x35s on and do a lot of gravel riding and never had a problem. It’s more the cars you have to worry about in a city 😊
@PaulUrmston
@PaulUrmston Год назад
@@LakeDistrictcyclist Cheers. I'm not looking for offroading, just more a "how delicate is it" kinda thing. But those 700x35s should be able to put up with a bit of abuse.
@LakeDistrictcyclist
@LakeDistrictcyclist Год назад
@@PaulUrmston yes roads are not great here in the lakes so you will be fine 😊

Always amazed how little most cyclists understand about e bikes they all think it has some magic throttle and Bradley is doing all the work.
@LakeDistrictcyclist
@LakeDistrictcyclist Год назад
Yes agree, I try my best to highlight that. With the 15.5mph cut off on the flat most e-bike riders will be putting more effort in due to extra weight, like a runner putting weights on his ankles 😊
