So I’m now 29 and just now heard this absolute banger of a song. This came out before I was born but I’m jamming here in 2023. Amazing music. I wish I grew up in these times. Thank you for this great song

OMD, they are still OMG after all this time. Electricity. Don't you you just LOVE the old songs, especially when you can remember them in concert, way back wht.
this songs makes me feel incredibly nostalgic...it brings me back so many memories, but mostly feelings. it's incredible how a single piece of music can make you feel things all over again.
Merci à Orchestral Manœuvres In The Dark.
I had been searching for this since the early 1990s, where this was featured in a documentary about the Hungarian Civil Defense! Since then it crossed my path once in a documentary about mineral waters, still without a title/band name, but finally I got this ticked :) After 30 years... Thank you, Internet!
Fun fact: most of the instrumets on this track are from the 60's: a Vox Jaguar organ, a Fender Jazz bass and a Selmer Pianotron electric piano (aka Weltmeister Claviset) playing the main melody. The other ones are the synth drums and Korg synth lead in the bridge, wich give away the era in wich this tune was recorded (1979)
The Korg M-500 did the lead and the high hat was actually the Korg in white noise mode, as was the Pssh pssh sound at the start. I have the same synth.
Actually you’re wrong about the bass. This version was recorded for their debut album which was released in 1980. In this version he plays a spray painted fender jazz bass but in the 1979 version he plays a left handed Wilson rapier bass.
The boys were far ahead of their time. Seen them in Belfast this week and they were absolutely amazing. What a concert ! Place went mad when this came on as well !
One of the most amazing, fast paced and brilliant songs. Loved it from the first notes and loved it through time. Music of the 80s was amazing, timeless, ageless, but this song goes up to there to the top with all the uplifting and amazing, danceable songs that make you have fun and move to the music. So many incredible memories it brings.
@James Hodson hahaha, same, had long hair shaved on the sides, that was back in the 80s as well, just turned 57 and still feel the same when I hear this music. Pleasure to meet you James. - Jake.
@James Hodson :) :) Same, same, we have been to many Rush concerts and once to AC/DC, enjoyed my very fist concert Styx, and then got into sympth 80s music, new wave and loved it all through the end of 80s and even now. Love all kinds of music and still listen to most of it. Even went to Rush concert before Neil Peart passed. Still put on an incredible show, as they have before. Saw Depeche mode as well about 15 years ago.
@James Hodson Nice, yeh, we saw Rush about 4 or 5 times and AC / DC in the MSG, great show. Saw Depeche Mode more than I can count, once in Radio City Music Hall. Amazing show, because we were very close to the stage on that one. Latest saw Depeche Mode some years ago, recently on Jones Beach. Very nice show and was so nostalgic.
They were from the legendary Eric's scene in Liverpool, 1977-1980. The scene that also produced Echo and the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, The Mighty Wah, Holly Johnson (Frankie Goes to Hollywood), Pete Burns (Dead or Alive), Ian Broudie (Original Mirrors and later, The Lightning Seeds). And like all the great British scenes of that time, the spark that ignited it was the Sex Pistols.
It was rather like the Blitz kids in London, with Rusty Egan, Visage, Culture Club and Boy George, Midge Ure and Ultravox, Spandau Ballet...all inspired by a mix of Bowie and Kraftwerk...great times.
My mum knew Andy McCluskey. She was friends with a girl he used to date when they were in high school. My mum didn’t expect his singing career to take off and was shocked when OMD started hitting the charts 😂
Hello love this song a lot just like you. Very nice sound. I just wanna randomly suggest another song i just found out recently. Perhaps you like it just as i like it :) Its called Kas:st - Hell on earth. I think you should give it a chance. although its a different style completely. It still hits me with beautiful emotions just as this song does to me. Have a nice day
I was born 1973, so I was only 6 when this came out. But somehow hearing this just makes me think its 7.30 am and I am having breakfast before primary school. I can actually smell my cornflakes and burnt toast :)
Words that are relevant today in the midst of global warming. Beautiful sound and visionary song at the time.
I’ll be honest I first heard this song today on Virgin Radio whilst at work, I am absolutely blown away by how good it is and that it’s nearly 40 years old. SO GOOD!
Dig in to their early stuff ( All of it ) they were so far ahead of their time and don't sleep on the Junk Culture album either. This band paved the way for so many synth bands. Legendary band.
For all of us who lived in the 80s we are obsessed by this period. It was so powerful that we never get over it. We are hunted by this spirit and whatever we do we want to go back in time.... Nothing is the same with today's world. All the innocence and romantism is lost
My sister and I just saw them last Wednesday...they were GREAT. They did "Electricity" as the final song. I mean they still sound great after all these years 🎶💖🎵🎼
Oh but we are. We are cherishing it. Keeping relics in our houses called vinyls. We are preserving their memories in our hearts and spreading it to everyone else
I was a teen and I felt in love with OMD's "Enola Gay" song. So I bought the 45-rpm disk record. I listened to it over and over without getting tired of it and without caring about side B song. Finally one day I looked at side B whose title was "Electricity". The title looked mean and trivial but I listened to the song. It was magic and wander. In my opinion this is the true masterpiece.
1995 baby here at age 29 and i remember hearing this song when i was about 6 years old, my parents and both side of the family all grew up listening to 80s music, 80s freestyle, oldies etc., man i wish i grew up around the 80s with you guys
Just found out I have a 30 year old daughter from my 1st GF (my name is not really Jaclyn Jordan...), and also that said mom passed 3 years ago. This was our music back then. Thank you, Nicole, for helping make a man out of me, and for giving me this incredible gift 30 years later. I am overwhelmed with sorrow and joy at once. I couldn't love you then Nicci - I love you now. Rest in peace you sweet, sweet girl.
God Bless you and your daughter and loved ones we have to Love one another and show our love while we have time on Earth we do not know what tommorow can bring so we have to strive to make the Best we can out of it.
OMD reminds me of being in Paris aged 17, I had a few tapes with me and played them over and over in my room after class. They were my life savers ,all these songs still sound just as fresh many years later! Lots of memories ....❤️we were spoilt for choice in the 80’s/90’s! 🎸🎷🎺🎻🎹🎤💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽Cheers for these tunes!
I was very small when my father listened to your recordings ... I grew up with these songs ... Today I buy and collect vinyl albums from various countries with your songs
There was this big club in Boston and they would play this song right before the band got on the stage so you knew to run to the stage and get crushed for the next 2 hours
That's great to hear that this video brings back memories from your youth! It's amazing how music can evoke such powerful emotions. By the way, if you're into outdoor camping or value quality family time, I highly recommend the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It's a versatile and powerful backup power solution that can keep your devices running for extended periods. Check it out!

Before Greta was even born ha. Global warming an we’ve still done sod all about it. Oh sorry I stand corrected. We don’t buy so many plastic shopping bags now do we? That’ll save the day
If you told me this song came out 1980 or 2010 I'd believe you either way. This is an absolute banger that paved the way for so much of what you hear today

So many of the 80s are Prophetic! They’re talking about solar energy in 1980!!! And look now, today, wow, mind blown 🤯. I love the 80s music with cryptic messages and meanings. 80s ❤️ forever
