You can also use BODMAS, but DM and AS are still performed from left to right.

Do you have a phrase to remember it and what does the acronym stand for.

@@Ace-ih8pe BODMAS = Brackets, orders, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction. The substance of both mnemonics is ultimately the same.

I personally think BODMAS is easier than PEMDAS
@carultch
@carultch Год назад
The substance of both rules is the same. It's just different names for the first two operations, and an arbitrarily swapped M&D that are both have the same priority anyway. I prefer GEMA: Groupings, Exponents, Multiplicatives, Additives. M would include both M & D, and A would include both A and S, with division signs and minus signs only applying to the term immediately to the right, if not otherwise noted.

@@fionax444 Same thing as PEMDAS. Just with the g standing for groupings, instead of p for parentheses.

16 is the answer 16 divided by 4 is 4 tomes 4 equals 16 :)

I still think it's more logical to use a set a list of prioritizations instead of reading from left to right cause I think every equation should be able to be tackled from every way you look at it. Prioritizing multiplication before division before addition before subtraction
@carultch
@carultch 8 месяцев назад
It's called equal precedence. When neither operator outranks the other, the standard is to evaluate from left to right.

I knew it the order of operations is BEDMAS: B: Brackets E: Exponents D: Division M: Multiplication A: Addition S: Subtraction

i thought it was multiplication then division but since there’s no parentheses it’s division first i’m pretty sure idk if i’m an idiot

It's the same thing. Just different names for brackets instead of parentheses, and orders instead of exponents. The substance of both rules is still the same. The order of m & d in the mnemonic is completely arbitrary. Multiplication and division both have the same priority, and get evaluated in the order they appear from left to right.

Mam lot of calculator's use PEMDAS but pemdas is completely wrong the correct one is PEJMDAS multiplication by juxtaposition hence answer is 1 not 16 u can read journals

Not in this case! In more complex equations or different writing styles, PEMDAS and BODMAS not really work, because of a lack in the used writing style. You know this equation “6 / 2(2 + 1)”, this is written in a poor style, so it is possible to interpret the equation in multiple ways.
