That flowered piece of copper is the jacket from a high powered rifle, a hunting round that was a hollow tip or soft tip bullet. It pealed back when hitting the ground. Most likely the hunter missed his target.
I love the scenery and a metal detecting hunt for history without any expectations. The thought of finding something dropped by one of those early pioneers is fascinating. Every find tells a story, even if you don't fully comprehend it. I watch dozens of md channels and you are doing great. Just take us along on your journey!
Wow, what a beautiful place you have to get out an detect for as long as you want. No telling what you just might unearth. Great video. An yes ol' man winter is definitely on his way to see us all soon. Have a great weekend. 😁👍👍
Thanks so much! Lots left to detect. There’s miles of road, old homesteads, rock walls, around the ranch buildings, and the neighbors have stuff. Dad has been keeping me busy too!
I learned from those little pieces that I just can't find that my detector sounds off on that I carry a small rare earth magnet in my back pocket and just run it across the area and if it's iron or anything besides aluminum it will pick it up. Just a thought if you want to try it. Good luck on your next adventure.
Hi Patty, I missed this one. The fog moving in was fascinating to see. It seems youre finding bits, parts, and pieces to ??? we will hopefully discover what some day. Great knowledge shared in regards to the area, thank you.
Thanks so much! I just need to get out more. My knees can only take so much. This week we were busy winterizing and mom had cataract surgery so didn't have much time to get out. I really want to check to old road all along the way across the ranch though.
This is just great, because the pioneers if they would lose valuables on the trek west would lose it on the trails. Lots of ox shoes I would think also. What about checking the areas of the major trails that involved lightning the wagon loads prior to climbing a steep trail, or stream crossings? Oh also on the sides of the trails and not directly searching on the tracks themselves?
Yes, there’s a lot of ground to cover along this road! I wish we had a steep part or stream crossing on our property, so will start here first. Thanks so much!
Yes I do. They are giant basalt columns but so stunning. Once in a while we drive over to the edge of the canyon and look at it. We’ve hiked in the canyon below it. Once when I was a teen I tried walking to it from the right but the shale slides are too dangerous.
Hot rocks and minerals will give you false signals sometimes. There are machines to discriminate some of that out but expensive. Keep digging I’d love to see you get lucky 🍀 👍
Just came across this video. I love in central Oregon as well. If ya ever need company. I use a nokta simplex. Just got the legend haven't used it yet.
Awesome! I just looked at your channel and will check your videos. I saw one about Kinzua so that got me interested. Some of my family lived there and Fossil.
@@dirtclodmetaldetecting we lived in Kinzua until the mill closed I will be adding more videos this weekend I hope. Kinda technology challenged in that area!
Hi again, I’ve been watching most of your videos this morning! Pretty drive towards Kinzua! You have been to some nice places to hunt. I wonder if you are the one I met on the Oregon metal detecting club on Facebook. Try making your videos available for comments. I think when people comment on your videos it shows RU-vid that more people would want to watch them. So when you upload a video check the one that says not made for kids. That will allow comments. I wish I lived closer I could show you how to do some editing. I got a lot of subs by making comments on other metal detecting videos and joining in on live chats and premiers which takes time but is fun to get to know more people. Hope this helps a little.
@@dirtclodmetaldetecting I'm not sure if we have met or not. Although I would love to! I think from watching your videos you are north of me. I am somewhat challenged and can't figure out how to turn commenting on. I did not realize comments were off when I posted the videos. I'm trying figure out how to piece videos together! I'm going out detecting here in a bit....it's my Sunday. Happy hunting! Let er beep!
what you are calling an exploded bullet shell, is the copper jacket off of a rifle projectile. the bullet case with the u is the UMC company, (union metallic cartridge),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I had gone out a few times. Just enough to get me hooked and recognize tin cans/aluminum foil lol. I headed out to a different area with more rocks than people. I got a hit. Dug. Nuthin anywhere. Walked a few paces, got a, dug and again. Nothing. Walked, hit/dug. Nuthin. I looked back at my dig spots and they were all in line with me… and my dang steel toed boots!!!! 🤣😂😂
@@dirtclodmetaldetecting since nobody else was there to highlight that one, I laughed and picked on myself. The realization was the classic tracing of steps before landing on my boots.. then back at my trail, boots.. threw my head back and laughed. It just didn’t occur to me prior. Lesson learned, moving on. And still laughing about it years later.
