The Regal organ was very popular between the 16th and 17th centuries.
The Regal organ is played with stop reed pipes that can be tuned from the outside with the help of a wire.
At the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, the Regal organ became unpopular and was largely dropped.
Regal organs were an important developmental step between the organs with flue pipes from the 16th century and the newly developed free reed instruments (such as the harmonica, harmonium, accordion, concertina, melodeon... ... ) of the 19th century.
Today, Regal organs are built according to the model of the originals. Electric wind machines are usually used instead of bellows.
