Now that is awesome! A "portable" console! That's like using a joy stick to control the speed and direction of an ocean going container ship! I'd like to learn how that little rig there interfaces to the organ. So Cool.

Such a satisfying sound. The instrument and building work in perfect harmony.

Fabulous ! It's sounding magnificent even though the tuning isn't finished yet.

Hearing this instrument in person should be on my bucket list, which is getting to look more like a #4 washtub, to be honest.

I want to forward this to my cousin who has helped install organs in Virginia, USA. What a nice sound. Thanks.

One thing I like about this organ is even though it is quite romantic in its tonal design (which I like very much), the principals have a certain "singing" quality that I imagine is effective for baroque music

This is a good series of videos on the organ project. The only bad part is when I compare the jobs of these guys to my own. Depressing!

Looks interesting, such a DIY ducttape and tieraps console connected to a massive pipe organ :D Certainly a unique situation worldwide.

Excellent. Now, what about that other switch at the end? (After a hot day of voicing, "Organ Builder to Pub")

Wow pedals to manual is quite devastating for the left hand at least! Perhaps King's should ask for a secret coupler 'Pedal to Great', would be interesting to have the 32' reed available on the Great for a final flourish - certainly power to the little finger at 3:04!
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 8 лет назад
I often think an enclosed 32ft reed would be massively useful for liturgical accompaniment. The big Ophicleide perhaps less so, but a medium-power 32' Trombone or Fagotto in the Swell would certainly spice up psalms, and the men-only second verse of "Come Down O Love Divine"!

I think I need a bumper sticker for my car that says, "Power to the little finger"

ds1868 some Allen organs have a bass coupler that plays the pedal with the lowest note on the great
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 7 лет назад
Shining Armor A melody coupler - they've been around since the days of Casson "Positive" organs, and can also be found on the Atlantic City monster. It would be really great to be able to play chords on full Swell and Great with 32fts though!

ds1868 the Klais organ where l play on has it. it plays the lowest note from al the one l press. l don't use it often, because it doesn't sound so very wel:)

Was anything specific being played at the beginning? It had a very majestic sound to it and I quite liked it. Wonder if he was actually playing part of a song .

How long does a good tune last?
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 8 лет назад
How long is a piece of string! All depends on weather, humidity, and how much use an organ gets. Some totally-enclosed organs more or less operate their own microclimate and never go horribly out of tune, but a largely unenclosed organ in a draughty church with massive windows (just like King's!) is liable to swing in and out quite a lot. Either way, regular use helps! The worst enemy of any organ is dust, insects and other assorted shite getting into the pipes, especially reed shallots.

An organ in a chamber can swing just as much as one out in the open.
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 7 лет назад
praestant8 True, but those which are totally enclosed (and, ideally, which do not abut or adjoin any external walls or windows) can be very stable indeed, whereas those which are mostly unenclosed in an open position, exposed to light and draughts, will tend to be quite unstable.

Curiously the organs I played around the Netherlands and Germany in their lovely cases out in the seemed to do just fine, in the middle of January no less.
@richardharrold9736
@richardharrold9736 7 лет назад
praestant8 Cut-to-length cone-tuned pipework, probably. The British climate tends to be more volatile than that of the European mainland too.
