Awesome informative tour, this was super enjoyable. Love learning about different varieties. I read somewhere that gailan is only available as hybrid seed, so really surprised yours grew into the gailan you wanted from saved seed! Love the abundance all around, so much to admire about your garden. Would love to see in future a video about the design or layout of the garden, also how you fill the raised beds.
Really glad you enjoyed it and thank you as always for your support and encouragement!! There are hybrid / F1 Gailan varieties, but also heirloom varieties. Fortunately mine is an open pollinated heirloom variety and grows true to type :) Great ideas, thank you! Great video. Loved seeing local recommendations! My garden is a postage stamp compared to yours. I have thought I'm doing well with vertical space, but I think there's room for improvement.
Thanks you for the tour! I loved seeing the wide variety of leafy greens you grow. They are my favourite. I have tried growing sprouting broccoli as a perennial but by mid spring the little heads become full of aphids that are impossible even to wash out. How do you manage aphids on your brassicas?
Thanks Kate! Leafy greens are the best. Aphids on brassicas are a pain. The best way is prevention, growing lots of diverse companion flowers to attract beneficial insects to take care of the problem. Failing that squish them as soon as they appear or squirt off with water, and if parts of a plant become infested remove and throw to the chooks or in the compost. Once they take over it can be pretty hard to get rid of, so the best strategy is to stay on top of them before they get out of hand. Hope that helps.
