I watched one of your vids today and thought I must organise my Polish so I can enjoy doing my manis again..searched ikea for storage and thought Helmers ...went and bought and see now that you have the same! So fiddly to start but there was a you tube video that helped on building it. It stores tons of Polish!
Great video Amy! It is so funny! I bought my first helmer from Ikea last Sunday and oh my God it broke my heart to put it together! I am usually good at DIY but I couldn't believe that it was held together by bending pieces of the metal! I think it would be lot easier if it screwed together! I keep expecting it to fall apart any minute! But now that it is up I really love it, it is so great for storage and I have loads more room for more nail polish! I am really looking forward to seeing your part 2 of this video! Thanks for sharing :)
They do for sure, it is worth all the effort once you have the finished item! I really enjoyed the sound of the rain in the background of this video too, it made it very relaxing to watch :)
I store my polishes in plastic containers all uniform for now. I definitely want to buy my 1st Helmer soon because my collection is growing. I also have polish stands. Tfs!
excited to see part 2 :) i store my polishes in so many different ways lol i got some in drawers, all my china glaze neons on a wall rack, i have a big portable pantry thing for most of my polishes and the rest on nail racks on my desk :)
I’ve literally just brought these drawers for my nail stuff so this is the perfect video I was looking for 😂 I’ve only gotten one as that’s all I have room for but I’m hoping I can fit lots in them !
I've not seen how a helmer is put together. You had some good info here. Enough for me to know it would take me all day lol. Btw, how is it get more adorable with every video???
I have two of the dark Alex 5-drawer units, If I had more room I would get a third but I just don't have the space. I just re organized them alphabetically by brand and then within each brand. Three drawers are full of opi with a bit of over flow.
I currently have one Helmer that is basically at capacity and some plastic shoe boxes. I want a second Helmer soon. For nail art stuff I have a plastic four drawer unit on my desk.
brilliant Amy! I have considered Helmers, but I do like to see everything at a glance, so atm most of my collection is on shelves, but I have an overflowing indie box needing sorted, lol
I always love these kind of videos. Thanks, Amy! 2 Helmers [and need a 3rd, eep], plus the bottom drawer of a Melmer [the rest of the Melmer holds crafts and nail art supplies]. I use foam packing wrap I cut to size to line the drawers instead of regular drawer liners since I learned from a video of Jess' they can remove the printing from the bottom labels of polishes. Cremes and shimmers I organize by colour, but some I sort by finishes, like holo, texture, multichrome, crelly, etc. Flakies have been a bit of a puzzle - do I put them in with crellies, or maybe their own thing?
I only have about 150-175 polishes (and counting). I plan to expand my collection with a Zoya haul. Right now though, I am able to fit my polishes into my large night table drawer and the overflow of untrieds is in a shoe box in my closet. I'm not happy with this and plan to change it.
It's interesting to see what's involved with setting up the helmer. I don't think that would work for me. I would be frustrated trying to bend the material and I don't have any helper. Right now I have my salon brands in markatt plastic storage cases (and I have quite few...lol) but my big box store brands (drugstore, dept store, beauty outlet,etc) go in stackable carryalls from Target. ( do you have any Target across the pond?). Thanks for your video. Definitely will check out your progress when you update.
Wow, your collection is kind of daunting... Have you ever used a smartphone app for polish inventory? I want to organize my polished digitally (having finishes, coats and categories on hand when buying new polishes) but haven't found a free app I'm happy with. I'd really like to know if you'd tried it (or have thought of trying it) and if you know of an app I could use
I used google sheets for a long time until one day i opened it and everything I had entered was gone! There is nail polish book which I know a few people use, you can add photos to that one which is helpful :) x
I have 3 and need a 4th but nowhere to put it. Have 2 stacked and one sat in front of them, think something will have to go out in the shed to make room, possibly the hubby lol. I keep wondering if I need to have swatch sticks but I rarely look for a specific colour to wear I just randomly pick something. Great video. Do you buy directly from Dollish? :0) x
hmmm good question. Back in the day I just picked up a helmer, the only negative I did here about Alex drawers was that you can't fill them to the back, or open them up the whole way. I know people that use Alex's x
I always forget how flimsy the Helmer drawers actually are until I go to build a new one and I think "wow... how do you even hold all of the polish in here!?" But luckily, I've not had an incident yet.
