The human nervous system is divided into two main parts:
1. Central Nervous System (CNS)
- Brain
- Spinal cord
2. Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
- Somatic Nervous System (SNS)
- Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)
Central Nervous System (CNS):
- Controls and integrates body functions
- Processes sensory information
- Regulates emotions, thoughts, and movements
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS):
- Connects CNS to limbs and organs
- Transmits and receives signals
Somatic Nervous System (SNS):
- Voluntary control over muscles
- Sensory input from skin and joints
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS):
- Involuntary control over organs
- Regulates heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, etc.
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) subdivisions:
- Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS)
- Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS)
Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS):
- "Fight or flight" response
- Increases heart rate, blood pressure
Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS):
- "Rest and digest" response
- Decreases heart rate, blood pressure
