I'm using Stagsi to organize all my PC files and photos. It's a smart software that can save a huge amount of time tagging assets. I'm a game creator so sorting files is part of my daily routine. One of my favorite features is called Tag Decks which allow to assign hotkey to a tag or a set of tags. I highly recommend trying it. Google for Stagsi to find their homepage, you will find more information there.

Thank you. I have been so involved in the fun of taking photos, I have sadly neglected the management and storage side. Now I can tackle this and change my bad habits. Really appreciative.

Hi! Thank you so much for all this great information! I do have a few questions about the process though. Should I still download the whole disk if it already has folders/images that have been imported to lightroom? I'm assuming there would be an option to "Skip" what has already been imported? Also, how do you recommend re-organizing a drive that I'd prefer to use rather than get a new one? I have one that's only about 6 months old and has a good amount of images, but still plenty of space. Hope these questions make sense, thank you!

The info in this video is good but I do think there's some important bits missing. The import as described above won't work if you have duplicates. You may need to do some upfront work and rename shoots and file names. I spent most of last night adding all the drives. Now am trying to do the moves based on the year and Lightroom 5 is telling me it can't move the all the files.

CreativeLive I've been watching Jared's course that is live right now. Yesterday he mentioned all his housekeeping techniques for people like me who need to start anew and get organized. He didn't mention this method. Can you tell me if the method described above is still relevant?

+Paula Puffer For removing duplicates, even the ones with different names, use Araxis Find Duplicate Files. It is free for a week, which is plenty of time to remove all your duplicate files.

What about photos that don't have meta data such as film scans?

Who were you talking to? You don't look at the camera as you provide advice, so I assume it's somebody who is sat at a table, looking a little fried around the edges, with 800 terrabytes of unsorted JPEGs.

I don't accept advice from a guy who can't even grow hair! (lol)
