JoJo on the radio has MJ guitarist Orianthi playing the solo from Beat It. And please stop all the hater comments. It's simple: if you like her, don't watch. Thanks.
Shes formed bad habits playing it all the time on stage. If she cared to she could clean it up even if she was sick of playing it but you're probably right too.
@@Youre_Right Shes just impatient. Like evh playing this over and over himself. Still she played for MJ. How can you hate on that? Maybe you're right, You're Right.
@GuItArHeRo9002 Eddie wrote the solo and recorded it for the original album... She was the guitarist for the live shows, specifically mentioning the live show used in the footage for 'This is it'.
@CronoX3 no he didnt he covered it because he was featured in one of michaels gigs jennifer batten originally wrote it because jennifer was michaels main guitarist until the this is it then he got orianthi?
I remember watching this not long after it aired.....time flies fun fact, evh wasnt even paid for this solo...i bet he said fuk it and said well i got a guitar solo on a Michael Jackson song that i know is gonna sell verry well.. and true, ppl who love evh, even hating beat it by MJ hating MJ even listen to it and wanna learn that fantastic solo. evh had done 2 solos and they chose there fav of them and used it. evh dont even play the riffs, just the solo, guitarist from toto played guitar in the entire song cept the solo steve i think is his name
maaaan, guitarists are really like that joke: "how many guitar players does it take to change a light bulb? 12, one who changes it, and 11 standing there watching, saying they would do it better." What a world of deprecable hypocrits. Put your money where your mouth is.
+jazztom86 Could not have said it better, Jazz! The gauntlet has been tossed on the ground. If any one can do better, that take a video and post it. We are all waiting.
+Paul Klenk you guys must really suck at playing to think this is good.. when I was 13 I played better. she hits notes and has no sense of melody or anything! is a person that throws a bunch of food in a bowl a chef? no... just cause she plays guitar and it's all fast doesn't make her good. sorry fellas
@rockstarr469 If you couldnt figure this out on your own, you have problems: SHE RUSHED THROUGH IT ON PURPOSE, the guy put her on the spot, so she did like a quick kind of preview because he didnt have all day. SHE COULDVE PLAYED IT CORRECTLY IF SHE WANTED TO. just watch her performance with Michael Jackson.
This solo is being played in F/Dm. The original is in Gb/Ebminor, but played on a guitar that is tuned down a half step (so really originally played in Eminor). The band probably had to drop the key to accommodate for MJ's voice (he was almost twice the age he was when this song was originally recorded). When you play lower on the guitar, the frets get wider, making it harder to perform the stretches Eddie was doing two frets higher. Cut her some slack
That doesn't even make any sense. Sounds like she's tuned to D Standard tuning. So while it may be sonically lower than Eddie's solo, her guitar is tuned for that. Just look at the frets/positions she's using. It's the same as every other Beat It solo video out there. The main riff starts with an Open E string following by a 3rd fret E string (or a low E followed by a low G, if using E Standard tuning). So she's using the same frets/positions that everyone uses, including Eddie. I can point out other examples... like how the solo starts with the 3rd string / 2nd fret, sliding up to 7 then 9. That's how everyone plays it. My main critique is that she rushes through the whole thing. Not a whole lot of feeling. And leaves out a lot of the good parts. Doesn't even play the harmonics on those aforementioned 7th and 9th frets in the opening lick. I'm pretty sure she always plays it that way. Just doesn't look comfortable playing it. But it's NOT because she's transposing the original down 2 frets.
@Guitarman1837 From Wikipedia: Rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen, lead guitarist of hard rock band Van Halen, was then requested to add a guitar solo. When initially contacted by Jones, Van Halen thought he was receiving a prank call. Having established that the call was genuine, Van Halen recorded his guitar solo free of any charge.
No, it's not. If you think this is mediocre then I highly doubt if you know what that word even means. 95% of guitar players will NEVER be able to play anything at this level. She is fast, but her notes are all clean. If you don't like her style that's fine. I'm not a huge fan either. But the playing on a technical level is clean. I really don't know what you people are talking about. If you mean her tone isn't super clean then yes, but that's hardly a fair criticism without her full rig.
Jesus where is the feeling No heart here at all ? Every transition is so sharp like if the solo was cut to several pieces and then just glued together also the timing feels off! Jennifer was miles better !
I dont know every musician has his style belive me here a 14 yeard old girl plays the guitar like the most greates but also when slash did that solo was incredible best concert ever
guys watch the video it tell me its there eddie van halen playing the guitar? NO its orianthi she is a really good guitarrist and she tries to give her own style to that solo as any original guitarrist she doesnt try to play exactly the same as one all those great guitarrist in the world as many of you do dont say that she suck if you dont like her just be quiet and thats all I really admire that women and im shure that she is a better guitar player that all the people that saw this video.
It might not be note perfect but until any of you guys get a gig with Michael Jackson, (which is unlikely now he's dead) you should stop nit picking. Ride on red hot mama gurl yo sho sound gud to me!
why do people criticize as if they can play better than her? playing differently or maybe lousier for that matter doesn't mean she is a bad musician altogether.. I would love to see those people doing a cover and posting on RU-vid..
I love this girl! She was one of the opening acts for Adam Lambert (together along with Allison Iraheta) during some shows of the North American leg of his Glam Nation Tour and I went to see her there at the local show in San Diego for local support of my hometown hero Adam!!!!! Rock on, Aussie chick from The Land of Down Under, Australia mate!
You see Eddie isn’t that great. Your obviously a pretty new guitarist so you wouldn’t know. He is very innovative but very sloppy. You’ll see when you improve a bit.
@@_swmc8_613 Hahahaha right mate, EVH wasn't great, alright. Improve a bit? Okay, let's ask professional guitarists... Oh wait, they all think Eddie is a pioneer. It's safe to say EVH was revolutionary. He has more creativity in his toes than you will ever have in your entire body.
Twan van der Donk I didn’t say that he wasn’t creative he’s insanely creative. He is arguably the most creative and innovative guitarist of all time. I’m saying that he is overrating his technical ability. Improve your reading skills smart one
@@_swmc8_613 If he was so limited by his technical skill, he wouldn't have been so innovative though... He is one of the greatest of all time mate, whether you think he is sloppy or not, he has to be pretty good to be put in top 10 lists so often by so many people.
@blackguitar86 I forgot to add. Listen to Eddies version without the backround music. Total groove that he was just born with. Lets hope she learns that over time because many people are noticing her for how she immitates greats, which I respect. As a fan I like her now but I think I can like her more if she gets that vibe that great musicians have.
All of you haters talking shit about her skill level can eat it. Orianthi's skill has been acknowledged as MONSTER by the best guitar players in the world. Carlos Santana himself said in an interview that she was kick ass and if he was going to pass the torch to anyone she would be his FIRST CHOICE!!!
No she auditioned for Michael Jackson on his this is it tour and her music career started from there as far is i know. She is playing with Alice Cooper at the mo and got an album or 2 out.
I've seen so much unfair comments about Orianthi and this rendition. She is tasty about her OWN rendition of this solo! Look at Eddie, he never plays same leads when he is live on stage, and instead of her, I'm sure he could play Beat It solo improvising some licks...
here's my take on this...she did it and did it just as well as anyone else. and to all the haters...let's use a little logic shall we? Michael had been doing the music thing ever since he was a little kid (and doing it professionally, might i add!) and so as the years go by, he develops an ear for music...I mean really develops it...so wouldn't it be more logical to say that Michael picked her, it must have been based on how well she played? if it doesn't add up to you...then something is wrong!
+mmojorissen She rushed it. Missed some parts and wasn't on time like you hear it in your head. It's ok though. She's a really good guitar player and there are a lot of EVH wankers around here hating on her. I'd love to see THEIR version of it.
To all the Haters (I dont like saying that often it sounds cringy!) She put her own twist on it and the guy was right next to her, pretty nerve racking, plus she didnt have the adrenaline of playing onstage!
Look, I can't play the solo myself, but I'm just saying: there's so many RU-vid guitarists (and some are LITERALLY kids) who can play it way better than her. And yet, they don't get hired by huge Pop stars to play in stadiums all around the world. Oh well.
It is that way for every endeavor in life. For every opportunity, there are many qualified candidates. How does a hiring official, therefore, choose among them? With all candidates being equally qualified, the hiring decision boils down to who do you know - i.e. social networking.
It was Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, who wrote the main intro guitar riff for "Beat it" - (not the solo) Michael Jackson went to him and asked him to come up with guitar for it and hummed the tuned he had which was the song - Steve then came up with that distinctive riff off what Michael sang to him - Eddie Van Halen came in much latter and apparently it only took him 20 mins for Eddie to record the solo and he never got paid for it.
wow, that was amazing. y is every1 comparing her 2other guitarists? dude, do u know how old this girl is? for her age, she is freaking amazing. in fact, doing what she can do at any age is freaking amazing. u all are like 'oh, shes ok.' no. she is not 'ok', ok, she is fabulous. keep ur crap opinions to yourself!
nicolas r I meant to say "don't like" Actually fuck what I said earlier, I thought this solo was impossible when I picked up guitar but I just learned it and Orianthi sounds like shit
UnderdogReviews Thats called improvisation, buddy. He's not obliged to copy the solo 100%. Artists do that even at their own songs. Slash himself plays his solos differently in live performances
UnderdogReviews LOL you clearly dont know anything about live performances or about guest performances. Even Van halen (the guy who made the original solo), didn't play it like the original solo and added few things to it when he preformed live. so calm down kid
@sheep800 and we also have Santana who admires her and mentioned that she will be the great guitar player besides him. And we have Steve Vai who adores and even collaborated with her on her track Highly Strung. That definitely notches her credibility !
After watching a large number of beat it solo videos, this one is the worst. Even the one with the little kid making mistakes sounded 100% better then the afterbirth that was pushed out to form this butchered soulless solo.
what for an interview about becoming MJ guitarist and Orianthi's solo album coming out yeah he would of been great for that. think before you comment seriously
I hate how people are saying "Fail", or "She messed up." she wasnt trying to play it exactly how it was originally done, and besides, let me hear you play that.
@chaoskid9595 I hear you man. actually, orianthi is one of the only women who can play an improvised version of van halens beat it solo and that takes heart and dedication. these other people dont know what that means
@jharkins93 dont compare her to Eddie V, she just make her breakthrough and still young. beside that this is not composed by her. For a musician if you can feel it, that mean she/he have gone to the another level like maestro. How do you define feel in music?
orianthi is an amazing guitarist, one of the best ive heard, theres no hate needed, shes awesome, idc if shes pretty at all, i watched highly strung which was the guitar duet with steve vai and orianthi and it was just amazing, shes awesome
I think people are mistaken about this girl, personally. Yes, it's mostly tapping, but is anybody having a go at EVH for that? And she's playing it differently because that's what you do when you're playing someone else's solo. According To You, Shut Up And Kiss Me and Courage aren't great examples. One, she didn't write them, and two, yes, they are made up of a lot of tapping and such. Listen to Lights of Manos and Violet Journey, from her self release. That's when she's most impressive.
