Orient Sun & Moon Version 3 Automatic Dress Watch Review (FAK00005D0) - Perth WAtch  

With this watch it is absolutely true that seeing a watch in the flesh is completely different from sieeing it in photos or videos. It is a gorgeous timepiece, very beautiful indeed. I have both the steel and the rosegold coloured versions with white and cream dials, excellent and very tasty watches. And, they don't break the bank. I was actually considering a Swiss complication watch, but those are too expensive, some of them have a very busy dial, and their servicing costs are prohibitive, These Orient Sun & Moon models are very reasonable, versatile, well-made casual watches with a very cool look. The dial is very well-designed, readable, tasty. I'm glad to have them.

I have had this watch for a couple of months now. It wears great, keeps good time and I really enjoy wearing it.

Who else could listen to this fella read the phone book? Solid voicing for presentation. Oh right, this is about the horological, stunning watch.

Finally ordered my own, this review has helped push me. Blue dial with white hands ect is striking, plus Orient has always been stylish and solid quality watches. Cheers.

Like most Orient and Seiko watches in this price range, if they just made a 38-40mm version I would buy the whole damn line!

It's a lovely watch. Orient will always be high in my esteem if for no reason other than they've coined the term 'Sun and Moon' for this 24 hour complication, rather than lazily (and grossly inaccurately) slapping the 'moon phase' label on it, as so many Chinese watches do. I don't understand how the watch community tolerates that practice. Back to the Orient: my only wish is that it were a bit smaller, say 39mm. As always, thanks for a great review!

Hi Ivan, a very attractive timepiece, and I especially like the handset and roman numerals in white. Only slightly marred by it's size. I can get away it personally, it just strikes me that 40mm would be so much more generally acceptable. Anyhow, another great vid!

Nice watch, beautiful deep blue sunburst dial, and the textured patterns on the sundial and chapter ring are nicely finished I think the screws on the dial would look less intrusive if they were in the same blue finish like the subdials. Thanks Christian and Ivan 🙂👍

The sun and moon is my favourite offering from a orient! The rose gold case is the best one IMO.

Not for me but seems like a nice watch. Orient does make some great watches, and there prices have stayed reasonable, unlike many Seiko models. I noticed the second hand has a spot for lume. It might be a second hand used on other models. It just stood out to me.

I recently purchased the black dial after this video. It is gorgeous! I ended up finding a good price on the version three cream dial with rose gold and brown band so bought it as well as a back up. Then just because I’m crazy found the blue face version five and bought it for the rotation. Your video cost me too much money! Great review and this really is a good watch.My collection includes a orient star retrograde, Rolex date just, longines masters complications, And day date parsifal raymond weil but I find myself taken by this much more cost efficient sun moon. I really find this to be a must buy and version three is beautiful

A very beautiful watch. Been wearing this for almost 3 months and still enjoying it everyday. With 3 beautiful complications that is a pleasure to look at.. Only thing is that the automatic movement is not very accurate.

Nice review! I have owned the Orient Sun and Moon 3 for a couple of years, and I very much like the watch. My wrist size is 7 in. (17.75 cm), but flat - I have no trouble with the size when wearing this, but I agree that it’s not intended as a black-tie formal watch. It feels very at home as a casual watch in the office, though. I bought this in a different color-way - I got the off-white dial version with a rose-gold colored case. It’s a good looking watch, to be sure. Mine has done better than +10 per day on accuracy-I think it’s been closer to +5 on the wrist for me. I have not had any difficulty with the deployant clasp, but I did upgrade the strap to a Colareb, so possibly that might change the action of the deployant. The clasp does have the Orient name engraved on it, while the crown has an engraved logo and the dial has an applied Orient coat of arms. All are nice details at this price point. A couple of things I really like about the OS&M3: I love the quick set for both day and date. It’s a pleasure to reset every time I pull it out of the box to wear. I also have been surprised by how much I like the sun-and-moon indicator. First off, it does give you the functionality of a 24 hour display, which again makes it easier to quick set, since you can always see whether the watch thinks that it’s morning or evening. Second, though, is that you actually relate to the watch in a different way because of the Sun-and-moon display. I sometimes find myself looking there (and not at the actual time) for an impressionistic sense of how late in the morning or evening it is. Hard to explain, but it conveys a different sense of time than on a typical watch - and I like it. For me, the downside has been that the crystal has no AR, so I don’t feel that I see the detailing of the dial as well as I can on some of my more expensive watches. And while I would never sell this piece, I could see myself buying another, retro-inspired watch with a simpler dial, also for casual wear - possibly the Stowa Marine Classic. Regardless, for the price, the OS&M3 is difficult to beat. And if you are primarily a sports watch person like me, it’s a very nice change of pace to wear.

Another to add to my list, a very nice piece but would much prefer the screws on the face to be engineered out in future versions

Wearing a black on black Ray, odd was visiting another tuber and they were talking black on black, so decided to set the day date time and wear it today. Great value for the product.

It looks so gorgeous. Just the 2 screws was the deal breaker for me.

Hi Ivan. thanks for the review, first of all. You are right about the two screws and date window. better not to have the screws and just one date window. That would make it look cleaner and nicer as a dress watch. Also, the "Day" round wheel, it will look better if they do not use that sunburst type of texture for inner circle. Again, it would look much nicer if they would had used same dial texture/design as the main dial. Other than that, not really much.... But it is just too big and thick for a regular dress watch with a leather strap and since it is 14mm thick, it might have looked better with a good metal bracelet. By the way, Ivan, I have a question for you. as we know, Orient makes their in-house movements, but it is not well known nor talked about, compared to Seiko's and Miyota. What is your opinion on their movements? Are they as good & reliable as Miyota and Seiko's? thanks again and have a good ..... Sunday night in Perth.

I have the version 2 of this watch in the same colour - one of my favourites.

I had a white sun and Moon v3, but sold it because it was just too big. I was missing that beautiful dial though and was craving another orient so I bought the Polaris GMT along with a baldassare strap. You should try and get your hands on one 😀

Nice looking watch, but for that price they could have done a little more decorating on the rotor. the same level of decoration is on my FAL00004B0, which is almost twice as cheap

Yeah the strip style date window can add some visual interest to a sports watch, but it doesn't really work on a dress watch, imo. In fact, I think you might more easily be able to identify it as a dress watch but for that date window. As far as utility, no I don't think there is any purpose to it except visual interest.

My father has this watch and he loves it. Actually, I was quite surprised when he bought it because his other two watches are Mido. My question is does this type of clasp ad for some extra length. I have a 7.75 wrist and I like leather straps and just a tad more length would be great. Thanks

If they could make it a bit thinner and maybe 38-40mm they would sell alot of these I bet

It seems few are bothered by the dials blocking out some of the hour markers. That's poor design to me. Some of the earlier versions had smaller dials which did not intrude. So many fine design qualities to the blue dial especially for the price and then they stuff it up . Shame as the Blue is the nicest looking. Can't do it - Don't think the V4's are any better dial-wisw

Hi brother, I am actually new fan of Orient. I was wondering about the text behind the watch : some of them "Movement Japan" and some others printed "Made In Japan". Are the "Movement Japan" varians not Assembled in Japan?

Wanted to buy the white version.. watch is so big though at 42mm it’s HUGE.

That dial is a bit of a mess. If one can get past that, it’s got some great features.

What keeps me to picking one up are the numbers from 5 to 8 are upside down and those screws on the dial. Was hoping the 4th will address those.. Like the matter simple dial on it, but the Arabic numbers are in a font that makes it a bit too feminine and it still has those screws .. smh :) Maybe they'll resurrect the first exec version in a nicer case..

It is an amazing-looking watch. Unfortunately it is too big for most people. I tried the rose gold version on my 17-cm wrist. It's simply not proportional.

Hi are there any steel bracelets that will fit this watch (with endlinks hopefully)? I have tried a bracelet from my orient kamasu and while they are both 22mm it does not fit due to the end links.

Orient is my no1 brand, but i find this dial confused. That 3 number date cut out in white doesn’t help.

Orient has some excellent dress watches for a fraction of cost. You can’t go wrong with is purchase.

Sorry, looks like AliExpress special, frankenstein of too much of everything. Second hand hole begs to be aligned with some dots as it sweeps the dial around... Decrease the font of the roman numerals and add dots maybe.

Would be fantastic if it wasn’t so large.

I love the style of this watch, and it is such a great bargain. However, I would never actually buy one. The 'Sun and Moon' written on the dial is the work of Captain Obvious! I would be annoyed to no end wearing a watch that insists on being so instructional and pedantic. =)
