I think both are good. Noble sounds a little bit better but is more expensive and has a smaller footprint. I'd say it comes down to what you need and how much you want to spend
The SGT, Bassrig and Noble all sound very good on their own, it's really just a matter of preferences. I would have loved to hear a comparison without the Noble because it adds a lot of bass frequencies in general... sometimes too much for my taste personally! I'm curious how this would affect the bass rig and SGT-DI, especially in a band mix or at least a drum track.
1) Origin wins, especially for form factor but the Ampeg sounds a lot better than I thought it would, especially with SGT. 2) The Noble is really the star of this show lol. It's so good, it would be better to A/B both pedals with the Noble off to get a better idea of the isolated tones (just like you'd turned off the comp).
Great sounds all around, cool board as well. In every vid I've heard comparing the Origin to the Ampeg the Origin wins imo, however; SGT's B-15 sound is worth having the pedal alone
Thanks for sharing. I play both guitar and bass, but over the past 5-6 years my focus has been my guitar rig. Now im at the point of building my bass rig. Ive been using the Tech 21 RBI rackmount unit and it sounds good to my ears, but i want to try something new. Years ago i owned a SVTIII Pro with a Ampeg 4x10 classic cab and that sound was perfect for my tastes. The Origin BassRig Super Vintage and the SGT DI both sound fantastic and are right up my ally. not sure which one i want to get or if i want to stay in the rack mounted preamp realm and try a Demeter, or Ashdown CTM, or a Arkham Zephyr to have a real tube preamp. I love pedals, but something about a rack is really intriguing to me. Not sure, but the Origin Effects keeps calling to me.
awesome video - many thanks for this. May I just ask: are you using the cab sim of either of the pedals? Also, Let us know of any developments: are you sticking to one of them and letting go of the other? Really interested in your opinion as I dig your playing style. All best!
They both sound great and are easy to use. I think it will depend on the project. I have gigged with the Origin and it was fantastic. Haven’t gigged with the Ampeg yet. In this video I should have dialed back the drive knob on the Origin while comparing it to the “clean” tone on the Ampeg (without the SGT engaged). Would be a little more apples to apples. Having the SGT switch is really nice! Though so far I’m finding the boost is a bit more more than I wanted, even with the level knob all the way down. I’m going to move my compressor to the end of the signal chain (but before the Noble) and that should help. Admittedly, I’ve only been messing with it for a day or so so I could be doing something wrong. I LOVE the Origin. I especially like the blend knob and the separate controls for the amp / through signal. You can send one signal to FOH and a separate eq’d. Signal to your amp. Don’t think you can go wrong with either. Will probably just depend on the project and what else you have on your board. Thanks for listening!
