Colter gives me chills every time I hear him. Like others, I disliked "country" til I realized that this is what real country blues is. What's on the radio is pop nonsense. This has soul, he sounds wise well beyond his years, and shows that darkness that started the whole blues/country genre down south years and years before our time. So glad I came across Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, Shakey Graves, Devil Makes 3, and others that reminded me what real, raw, soulful music is and the power it can possess.
Yeah- I use to feel that way .. at least in terms of the 'commercial' glitzy, bimbo-looking women and Cowboy Store dressed up guys, but always loved true 'old school'. You 'll like my son's premier vinyl, 'This Highway' ... here's a cut from that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W5zAM9Vb-dM.html Watch for a new album Spring 2019
I nearly shat myself when he started singing - was thinking "why is this pubic-beard wearing kid trying to act all Johnny cash with the guitar, and then... OHHH SHIIET!!"
I hate almost all the new country that I've heard, but God damn this guy's legit. Very rarely is there any bad ass guitar or great singing in new country.
So confused. My son left a Colter CD in my car I've been listening for weeks picturing a grizzled older man. Amazing voice/songwriting talent. Amazing!
Hahahah i had the same experience. Minus the son and CD format. Just love when the body of human doesn't match the voice. Had the same thing happen first time i watched a Meatloaf video!!! Wish my reaction had been taped for that one.
I been listening to him for years before I started watching Yellowstone so when I heard one of his songs in the show I recognized it right away and was so happy!
I get the reason why people think, or assume, that cigarettes do this to people's voices. Maybe it does, but I've been smoking cigarettes since I was 15, and I hit puberty later than most of my friends, who have also been smoking since they were 15 or earlier. We're all 33 years or older, still smoking, and not a single one of us has a voice like this. I'm talking about like 8 guys. Maybe it is smoking, but it didn't do that to me, or anyone I know.
Hey charleen. What's that film called? My wife likes Colter Wall and, ( to be polite ) admires Jason Mamoa!! Will have to make sure she never sees that movie Lol.
@@vladimirsvoboda6079 it's his music doesn't make sense even saying that, if some1 else plays this song then u can point it out but it's his so he plays it the way he feels it, Svoboda eta sila vovan
First time I stumbled upon this guy on RU-vid my expectations were low. The song was the devil wears a suit and tie, and as soon as he started singing my jaw hit the floor. I don't know where the power of his voice originates, but he is definitely an old soul restoring peoples faith in new music. PS Colter if your reading this you should come play in Lafayette Indiana.
Anyone else get lost in their imagination with these type of songs, I always get lost with an apocalyptic vibe, picturing just being in the shit trying to survive. Thanks for all the likes, nice to see others talking about theirs.
I'm all dressed up in a sun-worn and slightly torn duster coat, wearing a beat-up cowboy hat, shotgun slung on my back and a revolver hanging from my hip. A cigarette hangs from my mouth. I ride a motorcycle from town to town knocking zombie heads, saving lives, and staying just long enough to rest before I move to the next town over. Helping others but ultimately riding alone.
This song takes me to late warm summer nights racing around in a souped up pick up drinking beers smoking weed dancing with pretty girls around bond fires and getting in to fist fights running in and out of trouble ahahahah
I recently read that colter wall thinks these brewery session tunes that he made are cringeworthy, and that he just wants to move on to a new style of singing. While I wish him the best moving forward, and will be rooting for him 100%, ... He is out of his fucking mind. These songs are the epitome of beautiful country music
Okay I just googled this. It’s not that bad, he said the vocals were forced and he doesn’t sing this way anymore. Listen to his new stuff and it is still absolute gold.
yes, and he also makes fun of his use of the kick drum, too. i think it's a mistake to use social media to throw shade at your younger self, it shows he (might be) a bit sensitive to how his work is perceived, whne in truth, people love these sessions.
Jeremy Lilly I know this comment is old but I just found out him and Tyler covered a song together, look up his cover of Fraulein, it doesn’t say that Tyler’s in it but he is
This voice... Goddamn, this voice. It's ... I don't know, man.. A mix of bourbon, regret, and country in its purest essence. There's just something incredible about it. It's timeless..

He’s saying the people who saw the crash are god and the devil and he’s saying you can call him a sinner for questioning who’s will it was. The god or devil
As a heavy metal, rock and roller that can't stand country music, this young man has something that I CAN LISTEN TO!!! First heard this song on Yellowstone and have been looking for it, finally found it. Awesome talent!!👏BRAVO
I can't explain into words the feelings this song gives me. Literally the kind of song that gives me life, havent heard something quite like this in a while... maybe even ever. AMAZING
Oh, the POWER of the internet! :)) I'm a Jamaican/Welsh/Englishman living in Belfast, Northern Ireland and I used to sing in a Reggae band. I discovered this song on a Jason Momoa vlog and know practically zero about this genre of music, but I absolutely LOVE this track! melody, vocals, lyrics = AWESOME
He and Tyler did a cover of a an old song called Fraulein. I was just listening to one of Colter's albums when all of a sudden I heard Tyler's voice. My initial reaction was "no fucking way!" But yeah...throwing Stapleton in the mix would be stellar.
This is what country music is supposed to be, combo of story telling and pure talent and then the ultimate part: THE VOICE!!! I Can listen to this guy all day
coming from an oilman. we need more colter. i won't listen to radio country unless my lady is in the truck and after i showed her colter she listened to every song she could find. pretty boys in rubber skinny jeans ain't country.
my god this guy is talented!! i can listen to him all day! This is country music. Most country on the radio is pop music today. This needs to be on the radio!
Thing about Colter: you'll end the night listening then wake with that "voice" in your head. A talent given but to the few. Been spreading his gospel, to those who will listen.
this was the first song that got me into Wall. i thought he was a 50-year-old with a lifetime of experience, come to find out hes like 20. blew my mind.
Born and raised in West Virginia but never like country music until I heard Tyler Childers. A buddy told me if I liked TC then i should listen to Colter Wall. Holy hell he was right. These guys are in a league of there own that transcends genre preference. Just great music!
When I heard this for the first time I stopped dead in my tracks .....I was speechless . Everyone one else pack up your guitars and go home, talent beyond words , you are awesome sir
Heard this on Yellowstone the other night and immediately Shazammed it. Love him even more that he’s a Canadian boy. Every time I hear the song I feel like pouring a shot of whisky.
What an amazing and unique talent. This sounds like something you'd hear before a life and death shoot out in Tombstone, AZ at sunset. I'm a Nine-Inch-Nails guy and can't help but wonder how Colter Wall and Trent Reznor would sound together. Hope you get the recognition you deserve and have a long and storied career!!
This gives me chills I really don’t think the studio versions of his songs do his voice justice. Their so thinly and atmospherically mixed (if that makes sense)

August 2023. My daughter just introduced me to Colter Wall’s music (The Devil Wears a Suit & Tie). This kid is amazing! This is what ACTUAL country music sounds like! Don’t know exactly what I was expecting to hear when I clicked ‘play’, but it was NOT THAT VOICE! Somewhere, God gets a chuckle every time someone hears Colter sing for the first time. The young man’s face and the 2 pack per day, million mile rambler’s voice are an unexpected pairing, but DAMN! How perfectly they work! I hope Colter has a long and storied career!
We get hooked by this man's voice. We eventually get caught up in the lyrics. Time goes by and his mood and emotion capture our imagination. The buzzing old guitar is PERFECT. Mr. Wall ends up making us feel something. A very rare sensation these days. Let 'im buck.
@@nilradem county is "folk". Every culture has a country/folk genre representative of the normal poor folks who live out in the country. Original Country is just an offshoot of the southern and Appalachian music folks who moved out west brought with them.
@@dab0331 Country developed from folk, but that does not mean it is not a distinct genre. If you go with your logic all music is folk. In a sense that is true, but not very useful in talking about music.Colter's instrumentation and song structure tends more to folk than country, though especially on the last album, he does do some country songs.
