A beauty of a guitar. The bridge tone to my ears is more authentically acoustic-sounding than any piezo-equipped acoustic. Nice.

During the first half of March 2023, I grabbed up up a bunch of music my dad left behind when he left my mom in 2003, including the music from the Ken Burns Jazz miniseries. After watching Graham play these tunes on that guitar - as well as Norm and his silly interjections - I probably will dig those tracks out and play them.

I do remember my family driving into Santa Fe as a kid and seeing a jazz trio playing to crowd of about 4 restaurant patrons in its outdoor seating and thinking to myself that I might starve as a jazz guitarist.

Gibsons in this year we’re amazing. I played a OO type sorry I’m a Martín guy so unsure of the model but it was I believe Mahogany all the way around and I would have played it forever. Cool tones Graham! Yes Jen does have a great voice and laugh. Driving over the San Mateo bridge as a chauffeur I was in a trance listening to the best Jazz song I ever heard. “Riviera Paradise” No one leaves the room during that song!

It has 3 pickups, 6 strings, 4 knobs. Why is it called the ES -5?

Hahaha because Gibson logic. The ES5 was originally intended to be the electric version of their L5 archtop, and even though it evolved into something much different they didn't waste too much brainstorm time and just transferred the 5 over to the ES ('Electric Spanish') designation. So, why "L5" you ask? Well, you didn't but I'll tell ya anyway. L for Lloyd Loar designer of their archtop line, and "5" because that was the 5th in their archtop line. Like I said, Gibson logic :-)
