The big day finally came. It was time to see if all of the hard work on reviving this engine - without rebuilding or restoring it - would pay off.
After years of tinkering on the car to clean out rotten fuel, clogged coolant passages, old engine oil, and just gently freshening up all of the systems that make the engine run - I was very anxious to see if the engine would start and run.
Enjoy - and - Thanks for watching!

Gee those panel gaps etc look amazing, well done with the start-up!!! Next would be some sympathetic paint correction, the original paint would surprise you how well it could be restored - further cementing its originality. As they say, your only original once.

Legendary Jaguar reliability on show there. My F Pace has 37k miles on it, think I’ll stick it the garage for the next 50 years and ask my yet to be born grandchild to see if it will start. 👍

I own a '66 FHC that has similar fuel delivery issues. It ran for many years, but this past year, it seems to have fuel starvation issues. The fuel filter is dry, but all the lines are intact. I know the fuel pump is working, but doesn't seem to be pumping fuel. I've been looking at your videos to get some ideas of what to do, hoping I can get it going!! Great work on this one!

Lyons hated this car, but what it might have become with three webbers, and an alloy hood and boot, a goal missed by the stupid.

Oh Man ... I felt as excited as you watching it start ! Your desire to keep it as original as possible is a wise decision. I owned a '68 OTS and after I rebuilt the engine ( not having ever built an engine before ) and it started for the first time. I felt the same. Couldn't wipe the smile off my face for days!

Congratulations Chuck. Have you considered a dry ice blast like they did to the Pantera on Hagerty Red Line Rebuild?

Could be debris in the impeller or the timing chain tensioner not fully extending, which might clear up after the oil circulates more.

Bravo! With all your careful attention to details, I'm not at all surprised that it started right up. Congratulations! Amazing car. I did something similar to a TR3 that I purchased a few years ago. It was in the process of restoration work in the late '70s when it was last run. I found a wrecking yard receipt for a TR4 engine from 1980 with the car. That engine was installed but never run. I believe the owner passed away around that time. The car and lots of parts changed hands and was never touched. I carefully prepared the engine to run before further disassembly for restoration. The engine fired right up. It had excellent oil pressure too. Very exciting.

Brilliant news. I am so delighted for you. You can't beat that feeling when an unknown car starts and runs so sweetly. Now you will be desperate to sort out the brakes and take it for a spin. Good luck with the next phase. Hugh

Fantastic video Chuck. Had me grinning from ear to ear. I’ve known that feeling of elation on the first start up after many years! Hope you sort out that upper chain noise without too much intervention. The rest of the engine sounds sweet!

The noise, the sound just remind me of my Dad Same exactly Series 1 4.2. Roadster with original factory, hardtop . If I was to ever own one, this is the exact condition I’d want it usable driveable condition. All I would do is upgrade the brakes front and back upgrade. Also the headlights because I remember they wasn’t too good at night. Put a stainless steel straight through exhaust and electronic ignition on it, and that car would be good to go for me. I will change my Wire wheels for the old D type knock on Rudge Wheels 👌👌

I can’t believe that car hasn’t run for 52 years. What the heck is wrong with people who own something so brilliant as this??? I’ve always wanted one of these and never could find an affordable one in as good a shape to buy.
