I was both happy and sad about this scene. Despite the fact that the last time we got all four actors voicing lines for their characters in the Ghostbusters video game, this scene would be the last time we would see all four OG characters together on the big screen. Rest in Peace, Mr. Ramis and Mr. Reitman. You are both missed. :*(
one thing it took me a bit to realize, was the logistics of the OG's showing up when they did. Ray gets the phone call, gets a few clues that Egon's running off had more than what was on the surface, and he calls up Peter and Winston and they IMMEDIATELY get the move on to go help. Decades of them thinking he had done them dirty, but the hint that his kids needed some help, and they were there.
I still can't forgive Bill Murray for refusing to do Ghost Busters again until after Ramis died, and then tried to take all the credit for bringing it back.
For CGI, they did a phenomenal job making Egon's ghost look as human as possible with little to no distinction of it being computer generated; a difficult feat. It looks like Harold Ramis is actually there. Impressive. RIP to my favorite ghostbuster, and the legend who directed the first two. Thanks for making my childhood
I was very appreciative of that aspect of the scene as well. One of the most important facets of the respect shown here was keeping Egon’s character silent. Having ai or someone else attempt it would have been blasphemous.
I genuinely didn’t like the frozen empire but this one I LOVED! It was so perfectly done and I loved how Egon was brought in in such a beautiful way I lost it when he hugged them goodbye!
Ramis and Murray were very close friends IRL until the filming of Groundhog Day. The arguments and anger boiled over into some actual violence on set. They then didn't even speak to each other for over 20 years. Then one day, out of the blue, Murray told family that he had a feeling about Ramis. So he shows up at his house with what he remembered was Ramis's favorite doughnuts. They talked through the night and made up.. Ramis passed away not long after that. Murray became a notoriously difficult prima Donna to have on set. Ramis was one of the few people he'd listen to and reign it in. But after fame seriously got to his head, even Ramis could no longe contain him. It's honestly a sad story.. I'm more inclined to believe Murray has real psychological issues that needed resolving. He must of finally got the help he needed, then sensed time was short and didn't want to be on bad terms with his best friend. But two decades.. ugh...
Having Ray, Peter and Winston speaking to Egon after trapping Gozer broke the 4th wall for me. It was like the actors broke character too missing Harold 😢
it is so wonderful for honoring for Aykroyd and Murry and Husdon showing love and pay tribute their best friend since I see that really got me into happy tears
What would've made this even more moving for Murray was that, for 20 years before Ramis death, he and Bill had not spoken to each other due to a heated argument they once had. It's a lesson to never let anything ruin a beautiful friendship❤
it was stated in Harolds Autobiography written by his Daughter. Bill had a feeling about Harold; he went and visited and made up with Harold before his passing.
The argument happened during the filming of Groundhog Day.. Ramis's father got into a scuffle with Murray over his severely bad treatment of Ramis. Murray even admitted it was all in him, he was a full blown utterly unreasonable prima Donna at the time, and still is hence why many won't work with him.
According the Harold’s daughter I think they made up a bit before he died and he died not long after so I’m glad they didn’t part on bad terms. Still this scene hits hard for everyone, not only the people making the film but for all us fans.
It disappoints me to no end that they didnt kill off Leia when we all thought she would die, only to then rehash and reuse assetts to zombify them - and they did it in Rogue One. TWICE
@@legionloki She wasn't planned on being killed off. At least, not start off the third movie with her dead. Not sure if they were going to kill her off in the third or not, just to kill her off, like they did with Han and Luke. Fact is, they never should've had the trilogies with the original actors as Han, Luke and Leia. They should've continued the trilogy a couple years after RotJ and followed Legends Star Wars but improved upon it.
This was a very healthy dose of nostalgia for everyone that grew up in these movies. One of the most important facets of the respect shown here was keeping Egon’s character silent. Having ai or someone else attempt it would have been blasphemous.
I believe..... The body double actor for Harold was actually the VA who played Egon in the show "The Real Ghostbusters" who was also a friend of the ramis family.
@@DEATH111183 Im going off the credits of the movie and the IMDB page for the movie and for the actor, Bob Gunton, which all have him listed as the person playing the motion capture for the role. Mister rogers tattoos was always a rumor that's been discredited, as well as claims he was in the military since he has no service record and never claimed to have served. There's actual evidence that Bob Gunton did the motion capture for Egon, including video of him doing so before they super imposed Harold Ramis' face on him in post-production. So between the IMDB pages, movie credits, movie director talking about him in the role, and video of him doing the acting role on the set before the face superimposition being available online, I think it's safe to say it isnt a rumor or theory that he did the role. Plus, the VA for Igon in the cartoons, Maurice Lamrche, is credited nowhere for the role of Igon in Afterlife.
@@Aaron-ej9ql I'm not trying to debate with you. I'm just saying I've heard different. Also IMDb isn't the infallible source of information on movie and TV info people think it is. Hell last I looked at it (5 or 6 years ago) it still claimed dragon ball/dragon ball z was ported to American TV in 1997, but I watched it, dubbed, in 91 on upn kids after school at 3:30 pm Monday through Friday..... DBZ Sunday morning cartoon block 6:30am to 8:30am. IMDb can and has been wrong given that knowledge. As far as the Mister Rogers reference, I was stating that to illustrate that we might differ on the logistics of behind the scenes info, but we still agree with the fact he shaped the childhood of a generation, much like ramis, akryod, and reitman did with the Ghostbusters. Nevermind the hearsay behind the camera.
@DEATH111183 I'm down to see any actual evidence that you're right. Please put it here. You can actually see the filmed footage of the guy I said filming the actual scenes. That's pretty irrefutable. The actual footage of him on set, filming the scenes, before they spliced Harold ramis face over his. If you can give me even a picture of the VA from the cartoon even on the set it'd be something. Literally Google bob on the set and you can watch him acting alongside of the actors in the movie, including the original cast. Is all of that made up to secretly hide a voice actors actual performance for unexplained reasons? I tried putting a link to the video of Bob filming the scenes here but it was deleted. You can Google it though. I can't imagine why they'd credit Bob in the actual movie credits, have footage of him filming the actual scenes alongside of the cast, and give him 100% credit, all to refilm it and hide an unknown voice actors actual involvement. That's just insane and there is zero evidence except you saying so. Your claim is the credits in the movie are wrong, IMDB is wrong, the director is lying, and the behind the scenes filmed footage is faked all to have an uncredited VAs standing in secretly hidden for no reason whatsoever. Yeah, logic checks out.
@@kristensolivan373 well, none of us knew him, from interviews, he seamed like a friendly guy. This was our way to say "good bye". And the director NAILED IT.
i may be a 2003 baby, but i grew up always watching ghostbusters with my dad, it was one memory ill cherish even when hes gone, and i grew up loving all of this characters so much so this scene.....seeing all four of them on the screen together, made me bawl like a damn baby, rest in peace Mr.Ramis, and long live your memory that you gave to so many people, not even death can bring down the OG ghostbusters
As am I. My parents and I love the Ghostbusters movies and when we saw this we had a smile across our faces and I found out I actually share a birthday with the late Harold Ramis, I always like to think I was destined to be a Ghostbusters fan. Or as Peter Venkman once said, "For whatever reasons Ray call it fate, call it luck, call it karma. I believe that everything happens for a reason."
I whole heartedly love this movie,it took 20+ years to get one made and then COVID delayed this movie 2 more years but we finally got a story worthy of the name GHOSTBUSTERS👍💯
I have said it many times.... to me, even seeing it the first time in cinema.... Vankman "I knew you would turn up", Rays "Im sorry, i didnt belive you." and Winstons "I should have called, i miss you my friend" to me, this wasnt Ray, Peter and Winston...it was Dan, Bill and Ernie saying.... "Sorry Harold, we should have done this, while we had time." BTW the cinema, i saw this scene the first time, went silent when Egon appears, but when the sky showed "for Harold" it was an eruption of applause
What makes Ray's statement more painful was that the Ghostbuster's motto was "We're ready to believe you", and the Ghostbusters lost a friend for a generation because they couldn't apply their own motto to one of their own.
Fun fact when Dan was told he had a line badmouthing Harold (egon) he asked to read the script just so he could understand the reason behind it and he agreed to do it after reading it since he did understand why he had to say it but It still made him cry to say it understandably
Even though that Ray and Peter and Winston saw Egon as The Ghost and they all go Peter goes I knew you turn up and Ray goes I'm sorry I never believed you Egon shook his head I know and Winston goes I should have called I miss you my friend but yet that tells you one thing just because your friend is dead and gone doesn't mean that you're alone in any fight you are never alone in the fight your friends and your loved ones are always watching over you
There's a lot of comments about the cgi and how it was great and how it wasn't great but it doesn't matter. That scene brought back the old feeling and that was what mattered. The cgi didn't have to be perfect - it just had to be good enough not to take you out of the moment and it did it's job. Those 4 guys came together and just made movie magic on the big screen and this reminded us of that. RIP Mr. Ramis and thank you! Thank you to all of them - Mr. Akroyd, Mr. Hudson, Mr. Ramis and Mr. Murray! This was a huge part of my childhood and one of the fondest memories!
This scene was well-written as a nice tribute to Harold Ramis. Tasteful, respectful, and honorable. Kudos to veteran actor, Bob Gunton, as 'Egon's' physical motion capture role, with Harold Ramis' likeness superimposed.
Such a great way for the remaining Ghostbusters to say farewell both to his afterlife "ghost", but also saying farewell to their late friend! And people who grew up with these films were also able to say a farewell to Mr.Ramis. People have been reported leaving the movie theatres in tears. It is such a brilliant way to make an ending of Dr.Egon Spengler in the franchise and making their late friend, Mr.Harold Ramis be in the film and as a hero not to mention!. Mr.Harold Ramis, may you Rest In Piece! And also, lets keep Gozer in the traps underground now!
I realize that they used special effects to bring the character of Egon Spengler AKA actor Harold Allen Ramis back to the to be there so to speak it was just a beautiful tip of the hat to a wonderful actor who is no longer among the living I mean the way they did it was beautiful they didn't try to copy his voice they let him my guess is they took a copy of what he looked like in the original or even on the red carpet or whatever when he was when he did on a Comic-Con or whatever and they just copied it into their using well the special effects to to do that what makes it so special is the fact they did not try to imitate or copy his voice to do it they made him a ghost and it's a nice tip of the hat to him, I just wish that I could have watched the whole movie.
the most heart felt tribute to a wonderful man i could think of i was so happy this movie was made and the og Busters came back and once again busted some ghosties
Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray...they did a lot of movies together, so I'm sure this one was a way for them to kind of say goodbye to him in one of their more family-orientated movies. I choked up when I saw this scene, since I'm an 80's kid and Ghostbusters was one of my favorite movies.
About the Ghostbusters, for me is this the saddest scene Ever!!!! R.I.P. Harold Ramis!!! Its so sad that he is not alive in this scene but I think to make him a Ghost is still the BEST Legacy we can give him an Tribute!!!
Ok imma say it this scene made me tear up I'm man enough to admit it I grew up in the 90s but I was very fortunate to know the ghostbusters movies and who Egon was so when I saw this scene came up I teared up and it still makes me tear up in a good way i loved how this was done thank you for honoring Harold Ramis this way this is how it's done
It’s just freak sad. Like this is cool and a very nice touch. It’s just emotional that Harold Ramis isn’t here. Wish he was. Ivan Reitman to. All missed dearly. 😢🙏
@@coolcattigger Was it the episode where they came back from fighting Mr. "White and Soft" Staypuft himself and their outfits were more or less possessed?
Aw I got a little emotional. I watched the original films in the early 90's when I was maybe 10-12 years old. I watched this movie with my 13 year old daughter this year. A genuine passing of the baton to the next gen, but honouring what came before. Love it!
I have to be honest as a big Ghostbusters fan. The movie itself was well put together, the Actors were Fantastic, but this moment right here, was a bit off a tear jerker, to see Harold Ramis with the team was amazing.
😢 rest in peace Harold, it broke my heart to see you again. Ghostbusters is one of my favorite childhood movies, I hope you and bill make amends someday. In heaven, all things are possible
I thought it was real cool and classy that they brought back a legend in ghost form but what makes it even cooler is the fact that they got a legend to do the body double for Harold Ramis 0:56
Question : If a ghost like Egon Spengler can just appear as needed and interact with people he knew, then what is so bad about dying? He doesn't have to worry about bills, taxes, or going to the bathroom anymore.
I don't care what credits say. I grow up on Ghostbusters 1 and 2. This was everything I wanted and more. Between this and Season 3 of Picard I could die happy.
I know this was supposed to be more family friendly (like #2) than the original. But I would have loved for Bill Murray to have revived "mother pus bucket", after slamming into the car.
