I bought a new NSX Type-S in lime green metallic in 1999. I still have it to this day and take it to the nearby track (Sugo) whenever possible. Though I am not a pro driver, it feels like it when I am driving it around track no matter what the times are. Truly an amazing car.

Wow that's awesome. They only made 248 of the Type S, super rare. Out of curiosity I was trying to find one for sale online a while ago but then found out how many they made, makes sense why you never see one for sale. That makes them more rare than the Type R actually. Enjoy it!
@eightosaurusspelunk1598
@eightosaurusspelunk1598 2 года назад
@@Whatsth3ruckus Thanks! I actually didn't know that they're so rare,but I have to say I never see them around. There are a good number of base grade and Type T around the area (Sendai) and one Type R that I know of. None are green, though. I've had a few sincere offers to buy it from me and even though it's racked up 84,000km it looks new and is all stock. I've an emotional attachment to it at this point but it's nice to know that I can get what I paid for it if I ever decide to sell it.

In an odd sort of way, the first gen NSX can still be had new. It's called the Lotus Evora -- mid-engine, Toyota V6, manual transmission. It's technically the same formula. I always saw the Evora as the 1st gen NSX's spiritual successor.

I owned a 2010 Evora for three years. I wish I could try the NSX to compare. The Evora is so good steering- and handling-wise that itt’s probably better than a modern NSX. It’s quite simple and the driving experience is very pure, but it has the comfort and luxury of a more upmarket car. I can’t think of a better car to own, in fact, for any money.

The original commenter didn't say the '17 NSX was a bad car, just that it has nothing in common with the original NSX - they could have at least made an attempt to bring across some styling queues or something. The Honda NSX:s are quite rare in my country (like super rare probably like only 5 of them in here if not less) but I have seen one twice now in my hometown. Both times I was walking at night due to insomnia .. but seeing that car just do a fly by next to me always managed to make me so happy :D. Love it! Agree, you can't hear a lot of his comments during the drive, but so enjoyed the sound = the NA1 and NA2 sound the same to me, even though the engine displacement grew. I owned a '91, and it sounded just like the NA2 in this video. My only gripe with the car beyond needing Popeye forearms to steer it at low speeds, was that the exhaust note was too docile at idle and low speed. Once you get into the throttle, you enjoy the beautiful symphony found on this video. I ultimately changed the exhaust so I could enjoy the sound even more.

Great vid Harry, always had love for the original NSX. It's always been a very handsome car with delicate styling. You're right about the interior it is very reminiscent of the 328, i also think there's some 928 in that dash too, i think the Ferrari, Porsche & Honda all share a certain dashboard logic. Honda don't make cars with simple informative dials these days, back then i really think they were up there with the likes of BMW when it came to clean, clear instrumentation, it's something i wish Honda would consider going back too, amongst a few other things. Looking forward to the next video.

I have a ‘91 NSX. Did not know that it had a aluminum jack. Here in the US when the targa top was added Honda (Acura here) added around 160# to keep body stiffness. The weight was never trimmed off even when the fixed roof was reintroduced. If my memory serves me the owner’s manual says “to keep from over reving the engine do not exceed 112 mph in 3rd gear “

@ Harry, thank you for giving me some idea of how entertaining the NSX is. I can remember the original being launched, and there was a lot of commentary from car mag reviewers at the time to the effect that the NSX was "efficient and fast, but bland and uninvolving", and that as a rival to the 348 the NSX "lacked soul" (or some such bollocks). You've given mere plebs like me a taster of what the NSX was actually like, and how wide of the mark those reviewers were. Cheers!

In the original NSX, manuals did not have power steering and there was no option for it. Automatics came with power steering. When the NSX got the 3.2L 6-speed upgrade, it also got power steering. All NSXs have 4-channel ABS, I believe it was the first car with that (or at least in the USA).

When you consider the 928 was designed in the early '70s I think it's pretty class leading... The 928 is so futuristic it's sometimes easy to forget how old the design is. Compared to any switches from almost any car of that era and they suddenly seem really robust and high quality! I disagree with the comment re ergonomics, the 928 has everything exactly where you expect it (in my opinion, although I am slightly biased since I own one!). Obviously the NSX is a lot more modern/better, but it's clearly influenced by the 928...!

12:47 People actually criticise the NSX engine note. I guess they cannot appreciate the audible beauty of this mechanical Equanimity/Balance/Harmony. Probably because it is not so brutishly loud as the engine notes their minds are accustomed to. They may call it weak or understated when in actual fact it is just highly refined beyond what they usually perceive. But there are those who can actually appreciate the sound of all manner of engines that are well engineered. Including those that are brutish, not for the superficial loudness but rather the deeper aspects associated with their engineering. Also, it's remarkable how similar these two engine notes are - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t7Azl-drqMk.html (play from 5min30sec). Both are entirely analogue, yet so smooth and refined they sound almost digital.

Hopefully SVO will see one soon. Don Law gets all the XJ220 fettling business right now. I heard he has about 20 in his shop.

NSX was always a wolf in sheeps clothing. That beaitiful v6 bark is just glorious. The values on some of the later cars are now reaching 100k +

Superb review Harry of an awesome car. My take on the NSX evolution and all new cars is how fast can you actually travel down the road? Track obviously totally different. I'll take a car with classic lines and enough power you can use, I could listen to that sound track for hours.

The NSX had the same effect on me that when I saw my first 240z. Wow! That car is truly amazing. I wish I could afford one! I was completely blown away by both of them, being born into an area where you never saw anything like them. Now days it’s completely different. There are supercars of every description here now. They’re not common as SUV’s but they are around. Plus, there is an internet now. The world is a much smaller place.

Never really realised that the old NSX was such a cool car, looks like a blast to drive!

Nice change seeing Japanese metal reviewed. There were other interesting choices back in 90s that I wouldn’t mind seeing Harry flog. Mazda RX-7, Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo...

The NSX has become so precious, I'd never approach the limits. Yet I'd still have a blast in it.
