Tightlacing was not a common thing and is on the extreme end of corset use. But wearing a corset, especially one tailored to your body should feel snug and comfortable. Not restrictive and suffocating.

With corsets, if you don’t lace them really tight (just enough to stay on your body, only as tight in any spot as a bra), it can really help your posture, and kinda works like a less intense weightlifting strap if you wear heavy dresses. Basically if you have common sense along with your clothes, you’ll be fine.

You missed one now days corsets can also be used in medical reasons as treatment for skoliosis that makes spine not sright (like mine)and/or painful it works kinda like guide line for spine to grow right way

They were originally very helpful as a back brace for women and for children. A properly fitted corset is actually very comfortable!

The normal corset waist line was between 23-26 according to my research and there are still women with natural waist out there with that size...and tight lacing and corsets is a very different thing....the corset provided support to the bust and the spine. Thight lacing is only done by the most fashionable women in order to achive that really tiny waist... I wear a corset in order to correct posture and it is not difficult to breath if you breath through your chest... my natural waist mesurment before I started to wear corsets was 27 and my waist now is 25.. the myth about corsets breaking ribs,disforming the skeleton and organs of a woman is only done by tight lacing, and tight lacing is only done by the most fashionable women... and if the corset is tailored to fit your body it will not be painfull... One of reasons why women wore corsets back in the day in my opinion was to suport their backs/body when they wore heavy clothings

I have some late 18th century stays (basically the precursor to the corset) and I can do anything while wearing it that I can do without it on, even touching my toes I just have to bend at the hip instead of the waist. and honestly sometimes it feels more comfortable then a bra because it doesn't have underwire and provides back support. you have to remember women did everything in corsets/stays including manual labor

Unless I tight-lace, my corset doesn’t reduce my waist at all. - The max I can loose off my waist is about 1.5 inches. The corset itself, adds quite a bit of bulk to your waist. It’s almost not worth it. For corsets to have a dramatic effect, you really need some fat on your body. The fat serves as a cushion, and the corset has something to displace.

They fairly comfortable. I can teach kindergarten in mine.

She actually knows what she's talking about from a historic point of view and talks about the types of corsets that are actually likey to damage you, versus the ones that aren't.

I mean, victorian corset wearing was ENTIRELY different. They absolutely did cause damage to women's bodies and restricted breathing to the point that women would pass out.

Corsets may look cute, but in a matter of fact, they are just a less successful prototype of an exoskeleton for the people, who, due to the certain health issues, can't keep a good posture. But healthy people with properly developed bones&muscles don't need any corsets.
