The Baltimore Orioles named their Opening Day Starter this weekend, and to no surprise it is Corbin Burnes. Host Connor Newcomb breaks down what it means for the Orioles, and highlights some other great pitching performances from the weekend by Chayce McDermott, Cade Povich and others. Then, Connor discusses the big weekends for Coby Mayo and Jackson Holliday and their abilities to make the Opening Day roster.

Why would they let him start the season instead of getting another year of control by waiting a month or so? He barely played triple A.

I know it's unlikely, but I'd love to see Mayo and Holliday break camp with the big club. Mayo starting at 3rd and Holliday at 2nd. They're the future and both are ready. Huge talents that wouldn't gain much if anything from spending another day in AAA. IMO.

How about Cowser , Kerstad, and Stowers? Don't sleep on any of them either. I thought Kerstad would have taken the big step ahead of both Stowers and Cowser.Not so certain about that right now. However I still believe Kerstad bat plays in the Big Leagues. He just passes the eye test to me as a hitter.

Holliday at 2nd. Cowser in the outfield as a backup. Mayo I would love to see too. Available slots is the thing. Injuries are inevitable and that's where Mayo will probably get some time this year.

If Holiday makes opening day roster but stuggles and gets send down does that allow them the extra year of control or is making the opening day roster game set match on the extra year of control? Thanks if you can give me that answer.

Fun fact about Mike Mussina, the Yankees won the World Series the year before Mussina signed with them and won the year after he retired. He did pitch well and get to lose in two separate seasons so good for him for leaving I guess

I find spring training hard to assess. Does anyone know if spring training productions translates at all to the regular season? I want to get excited at this team dominanating spring....but its also spring?

Why doesnt ryan ripken show invite you connor? I see kevin o on there was wonderin why dont you get the invite.......was also thinking that maybe your critical stance with current ownership is the reason maybe they dont invite you......regardless i think u would be an awesome guest and would have some amazing dischord and interaction with thier crew and add your insights about the team we all love.....so ill keep an eye out but regadless i come here first to get my orioles news!

I'm more 70 30 that holiday will be playing at Camden yards on opening day. This kid is special. I usually like when time goes slow but opening day needs to get here, like tomorrow.

As far as I can tell, he's made the team already. Yes, it's still just speculation at this point, but it could be that the bigger remaining question is where Brandon Hyde decides to have him bat in the Opening Day lineup.

Actually there's another step before all the owners vote. From Jeff Passan of ESPN, "The three-step approval process now moves from the league's ownership committee to its eight-man executive council. Should the council approve the deal as well, it would then move to a full ownership vote, which would require 23 of 30 votes to formalize the sale."

The Angelos are holding on to the majority right now so they can pay capital gains. When Peter dies, the family will inherit the team at the fair market value that day. If they immediately sold, they would pay the income tax rates which is maxed currently at 37%. However, if they hold it for a year and 1 day, you are now in capital gains. So instead of paying 37%, you now pay a max of 20%. THIS is the reason why, to save a tax bill

If O's sign Snell? They can kiss Burns goodbye and Burns is better than Snell . Sign Bauer, trade for Luzardo and than re-sign Burns for next season. Bauer and Luzardo are the hedge's against Burns not re-signing! Win Win!

Please do not waste more than 30 mill/ 1 yr on Snell Rueben. Save it for Burns and locking up our young talent. Boras has lost serious credibility this offseason and perhaps Holliday and Henderson want to be here and will break from Boras and sign fair and lucrative extensions this offseason
