I'm in love with this boat already, has almost everything I would want in my next boat. Just needs a dedicated shower stall, helm control at the nav station for a storm helm, and waist high safety lines for someone 6'4" tall.
@@PennWolfsSailingAdventures Enksail builds semicustom so they can probably can make your wishes happen. For the rudders I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages in the Makkum built yachts by KMY (Bestevaer) or Enksail. I know KMY builds the rudder out of an insanely thick massive rod (no pipe) going through an way oversized massive rudder stock. KMY sailed one Bestevaer at full power against rocks to prove their rudders don't sheer off. In short: they are built for the boat to stand on when dry falling. I think Enksail aims for the same level ...
Alu sheets pre-formed for the entire hull and deck. Just farm it out to a facility that has the equipment and skill to do just the rolling of aluminum sheets and do the final assembly and welding at the yard. What a brilliant idea.
An English Rolling Press Machine does the aluminium sheets! I would like the custom options as I would want to change some features. Beautiful vessel though!
interesting to see how similar building methods are for aluminium yachts in the 30 to 50f class in comparison to the superyachts in the 150-300ft size class. Sure it is more complex, with thicker plates but he loads on the vessel are exponentionally higher so they should be build stronger/heavier. still it is fun to see that the basics are the same for the orion 49

Look at 60 to 100 feet (100 foot is for marketing to sell the smaller design). Money wants BIG and Amel solid handrails. Think about taking the Catamaran to the next level.
For high latitude sailing this boat needs an inside helm station. Its not fun to man the rear helm station when the temp is -7 C the wind is 25 Kts and its snowing,
That´s the centerboard up and down mechanism. You can see it at the beginning of the video, 7:05 min. It´s installed under the floor boards, in the saloon.
I liked it -- UNTIL -- I saw the sail drive hanging out the bottom. Must be a shaft drive for me to be interested in this. Shocking that they would ruin this sailboat like that.
@@michaeltca3103 There are some distinct advantages with a saildrive. Much quieter gear shifting, from neutral to forward or reverse. But the real advantage is that aligning the engine/gearbox assembly with the propeller shaft/cutlass bearing is no longer an issue. The engine/coupling/gearbox/saildrive are all one unit, so there are no alignment problems. Our engine tore itself apart after only 170 hours due to being out of alignment. We were lucky it happened in the best harbour to be in, though it still took five months and four lift outs to repair. I will not be turning my nose up at a saildrive when next I see one! 🙂 Regards, Rick.
@@SailingSnowGum ..you can get an aquadrive, or similar unit, on a shaft drive to get rid of the alignment issue. Once you do that the shaft drive is much much better overall.
Hi Coleen. I’ll look into an Aquadrive. I wonder if it solves the other big problem with shaft drives, which is the normal water ingress at the propeller shaft seal for lubrication and cooling. Every time we motored, even just briefly in a marina, we would have water spraying from the seal and collecting under the engine and in the bilge. Boats with saildrives don’t have this problem. I’ll grant you that I’m a bit wary of the rubber boot; other than periodic replacement is there a history of them being a problem. Of failing? I ask because I’m looking at boats with saildrives, in separate, water tight compartments. Regards, Rick.

De som bygger alubåter kan selge kun skrog, så kan du bygge de opp innvendig selv. Men kanskje billigere å kjøpe en brukt alubåt og bygge om. Masse muligheter med alu:-)
As I have explained before, there was only one movie clip of the boat on youtube before. I have put together published clips from Facebook. So this is not a professional video. The people from Distant Shore will buy this boat, so now there will be lots of professional films of the boat in the future. But if you are in the process of commenting on bad videos on youtube, then you have a great job ahead of you.

It is beautiful and interesting to see that boat but, sorry, some such rapid movements did not make me appreciate the truly remarkable artifact. (maybe I discover I have vision defects). I understand your desire to show the boat and show everything you filmed but when I expected to see the interiors you go back to showing how the construction was set up, the realization (really remarkable) and then you go back to showing the laminations of the hull . Excuse me, I was expecting to enjoy the interior and it was a frustration of mine like a child outside a toy shop he can't enter. If it bothers you, I can delete the post. with regard
No, no problem. Had I filmed everything myself and set up the film, it might have been a little better. I agree that there may be clips that are not completely in order unfortunately. There are a lot of people who have seen the video and got to know this fantastic boat. I look forward to more films from Distant Shore, both under construction and when they get it at sea. So hold on, better movies are coming :-)
Thanks. Really interesting. Would love to see someone build a version based around the amel 50/54. When I win the lotto that's what I will be commissioning. Prefer the single helm undercover, with engine bay directly under.
Realize I have the wrong music for the movie. When I make movies and put on music I like, the movies are stopped because of copyright. So therefore I had to find some music that is legal and use. unfortunately there are some who do not like it. I get to re-release the film with new music eventually.
