Phenomenal review. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Quick question if I may. The markings on the dial in this video appear to be yellow, but I've seen many photos online of this watch and they are more close to a cream colour. Can you please confirm which shade they are exactly?
This is the first luxury watch I ever wanted two or so years back. I bought the 65 model without the numerals, which is also sharp but not as fun as this one is. I'm a bit disappointed they discontinued it too, its bold and unique within their lineup.
Yes, this watch has classic looks and is batting very much higher in the order than it might first appear? BUT that lumed surround on the 3, 6, 9, 12 is just so wonderful to look at. It reminds me of old/wind up alarm clocks when I was a kid?
I absolutely love the old-school design feature of placing the 12, 3, 6 and 9 numerals inside the lume markers. I bought my Newmark 71 (with the new X-1 lume, no less) to the same reason. I think it's nicer than the Seamaster. Your Oris is simply stunning!!
I really do love the quirks of it so much. And comparing it to the Seamaster, I feel like their designs are in different categories (but I can appreciate the same) One is very rigid in comparison (much more dressy) The other feels like a tool watch of its time. Something tells me that neither will ever leave the collection no matter how big it gets. Every time I look at the 65, I grin. The word FUN is there is spades ;) Thanks for the comment JB!
@@Billeh556 Yeah, I'm SUPER happy with mine. The X1 lume is amazing - even the minute markers glow like crazy. I'm interested to see what Newmark comes up with next.
Enjoy it in good health. It’s a beautiful piece. I love the oversized crown and the shape of the sapphire crystal. Nothing polarizing to me. It’s a classic beauty.
I've found that I get a lot of enjoyment out of watch designs that have "character". Just simple things like the gloss dial, domed crystal, indices. It's such fun. AND feels like it transports you back to the 60's. Also reckon this design is quite inspiring when we look at products today (we might see a resurgence) ;) Thank you for the comment Bruce!
The numeral editions were the only ones I liked in the diver 65 series. While it's sad to see that it has not been appreciated enough... I am glad they are discontinuing it as I have got mine (blue black dial) and don't necessarily want many having the same making it more unique... Its a excellent piece with a personality. Nothing fancy from a movement standpoint (basic Sw200) but a absolute stunner from an aesthetics standpoint (atleats for me).
IDGuy strikes again. This is a bit quirky in its design. We all need a "different" watch that, for the most part, those who are traditionalists would avoid. But secretly we all have one watch that is off the beaten path we jut love for some reason. The Omega Seamaster 300-1957 was right in your design sweet spot and the history and the vintage look etc. made it a perfect shoice for you. This one is quirky. My quirky watch is the Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator with the Cinema Black Dial. It is quirky in two ways. First it's a regulator. Second, the dials are fashioned to look like cinema reels. It also has a bit of celluloid to frame the text. So, how about doing a Saturday on quirky watches? It could be really fun. We could submit actual or desired quirky watches.
Totally Karl. It's a watch that I shouldn't like looking at the strange dial etc. but it's been such FUN. Starting to find that a lot of my enjoyment comes from a watches "character". Also feels like the Seamaster manages to reach that sweet spot. Very well said! AND the theme idea around Saturday's show: Ask for submission on "Watch Regrets" and the submissions have been quite minimal hahaha! Anyway, I hope you're well and thank you for the comment!
This watch is so underrated... it is so bold and proud. I hope Oris could bring this back, in 38mm... oh boy, wouldn't that be a sight? One can only dream...
I own this watch for like 6 or 7 years now. Its a good bargin for the money. The watch delivers a true vintage watch experience to the owner for a fraaction of the price of more expensive brands.
I feel lucky to say I own one of the limited, no-date Topper Editions. I’ve been wearing it daily for the past 2 years. Still mesmerized by that dial! Welcome to the original Divers 65 family! Wear yours in good health!
It's great right? They can be found for incredible prices now. Highly reckon people should jump on them just for the fun of it. They're just great! Thanks for the comment!
I Also have one and It gives me a little spark of aesthetic pleasure every time I glance at It. It's the fonts, the clean but rich design, and the all around harmony and sporty elegance like no other.
Your accurate and fine review gave me the final push to by me one. So I appreciate it. Now that I have the watch I can tell it is an amazing piece. Best regards from Guatemala.
Would this particular dial 65 go up in value? I have one unworn still in the transparent wrapper all boxed up for over a year now, thinking of putting it on ebay.
Very informative video, thank you. I’ve been obsessed with this watch for a year or so, I wasn’t aware they’d been discontinued. Found one with steel bracelet for £1350 and was going to wait a while longer for a better deal but might just go for it.
Trust me, you're not the only one Hervé. I'm very tired of the seriousness that has to go into watches most of the time. Buying brands, prestige... Case in point, I'm borrowing a 214270 and the Oris is getting more wear time ;)
Another fantastic video IDGuy. The way you feel about your Oris Divers 65 is similar to the way I feel about my Doxa 300T Caribbean. Though they have different attributes, they embrace the same vintage tool watch vibes. Second shout out to my friend Flippin Zippo!
Love the quirks of these classics. More watches need "character" to them today! And I'll have you know that the Explorer video is in the works (taken the footage of the watch). It's been a weird first week wearing the piece, Blueshirt... THIRD shoutout to Flippin Zippo!
Very nice watch, but the date is like dragging fingernails on a chalkboard. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Why bother with it? No one will be able to read it at a glance, and it kills such a beautiful and harmonious layout.
Hahaha you mean where it's placed? Honestly, it's one of the best integrations I've ever seen and I HATE date complications on watches vehemently. It's so small that it really does disappear which is quite bizarre. Thank you for the comment, brother!
@@ID-Guy I think the fact that it is so small bothers me even more. This layout is bold. Then suddenly you have this Omega-ish date at the bottom that does not fit. If the point was to make it invisible, why have it? It's like when you are falling asleep and somewhere people are speaking in normal but low voices, and you fall asleep. But, if they purposely start whispering, that immediately wakes you up. This is what that date does to me.
Every time I look at it the same "Why didn't I buy this sooner" thought comes to mind. It's just so much fun to wear Andrew. I could rock it for a month without any thought of changing it with something else (and that very rarely happens) ;)
I have the dark blue and black on the rubber strap. I really like it! I have asked relatives for their opinions (out of curiosity). It gets mixed reviews! I agree that the new design is boring.
Want to know what's funny? I'm loaning an Explorer 214270... Friends and family say "Looks like a seiko, looks boring" - They see this and unanimously agree that it looks fantastic hahaha! Gotta love feedback, right? ;)
Loving the dial on this Divers 65. Those quarter Arabic numerals, with that great reversed block ‘Archer’ (shout out to Flippin Zippo) font just look so bold and jump out as a lovely design feature. Yet another great video here. Congratulations on the new watch my friend. It is so nice to see your collection mature. ✊
The Archer font still gets me, boet. AND what's crazier is that it's getting more wrist time than the 214270 still... hahaha sigh... Thank you as always brother. I'll whatsapp you later this week
Always had a soft spot for Oris. Independent, interesting history and only produces mechanical watches. I like the fact that they reproduced their own original design in this watch, too bad they went the safe route with the new Sixty-five. Wear it in good health!
The "Safe Route", couldn't say it better. Generic, bland. Sadly that's what will sell in mass. But hey, maybe this video will help show that there's coolness to the quirks. I've had so much FUN wearing this watch over the last few weeks... AND have a 214270 Explorer on loan that hasn't been getting anywhere near the same amount of wrist time... yikes. Thanks as always Wrecked!
It's interesting because the "generic" looking 65 is also inspired by an original design of theirs in the 60's. Still, it's just way too safe ;) Thank you Sam!
I'm sorry, did you say the archer series dates back to the 60s? As far as it's actual run date, it's the 2000's, but the show takes place in an undetermined era, but the technology used my the characters is way too advanced for the 60s. I know this is a watch channel & I love it, but I just couldn't help myself but comment on the archer thing, a great show!
Never say never Alan ;) They can be found for amazing prices second hand. Just keep looking! It took me well over three years to finally pull the trigger. This hobby is always full of surprises. And thank you for the comment, brother
Of all the watches in my collection this one gets the maximum wrist time. And for good reason. It's a fantastic size, comfortable on the wrist and a great everyday wear.
Ah, it's great to read this. Over the last few weeks its a watch that I can just switch to with ease and without any thought. Found an awesome deployant for the Tropic strap and now it really feels luxurious too! thank you for the comment Simi!
I panicked! “Discontinued!” I’ve just checked Oris’s website and it’s on there. Am I missing something? I hope it doesn’t go as I would like this one day. I’m hoping to get the Bronze Oris Big Crown 80th Anniversary edition first.
I should've maybe made it clearer haha! This old dial format isn't on their website anymore. The 65's now all have the batons and plots without the arabics (or maybe it's just in the UK - I hope I'm not missing something) There are some amazing pointer dates that have been brought out recently. I'd actually love to give one a review!
They are lots of fun and it's crazy how they've lost attention over the years. Just goes to show that we need to wait until these watches go out of fashion before we pounce ;) It's such a lot of fun to wear. Honestly, I get the "why didn't I buy this sooner" feeling all the time with it. Thanks for the comment Chris!
When I first saw this watch online I loved it, I even thought "this is the one I’ll sell a kidney for", but when I saw it at an AD I was kinda… underwhelmed. I didn’t like the feel of it, and how the hands don’t point to the markers but rather cover them. Goes to show, there’s nothing like seeing and trying on a watch to find out if it’s right for you.
I am also eying this watch. What I don’t understand is why do you point out that Oris is a lower tier than Tudor/Rolex/Omega ? Are you talking specifically about where the brand ranks as far as pricing or just your subjective opinion of what defines luxury to you. At the end of the day you purchased it for content mostly but I find it funny how you specifically point out that it’s a lower tier than Rolex…… 🤔😂
I picked one up last week. It's beautiful, you can't stop looking at the refractions from the crystal. The bezel action is so smooth and tactile. I love it.
Hmmmm, you almost have me doubting my decision to sell mine. I agree with all the things you say, and that tropical strap is so comfy I know see how people can develop a rubber fetish! I just don't wear mine enough, I'm looking to buy a grail and need to thin the collection and my Zodiac Super Seawolf Watermelon more than meets my fun watch needs! Its on Chrono 24 if anyone is interested, or I'm london_stu on IG if anyone wants to message. Great video again and it co-ordinates with your seamaster perfectly.
I think it'll disappear soon if someone feels like experiencing it (after watching this). I agree that if I had a Zodiac in the collection too it would be difficult to share time between them. And thank you Stu! I hope you manage to secure your grail in the next few months!
I'd suggest the Willard for the price etc. This watch is in a different category. Honestly, I bought it for Fun with no thought about seriousness. I feel like the Willard is a much more impactful piece to add to a collection (and it's a true icon)
I’ve said several times here that watch is a tool. And I still say that a watch is a tool. This doesn’t mean we can’t have functionality of a tool watch and still have it be an extension of our personality. Our choice of watch and it’s dial design, handset, strap or bracelet choices says something about who we are as individuals.
Fully agree Chris. Even though this watch screams "funk" it's still amazing as a utility and has a purpose to its aesthetic. I simply cannot get enough of it (this coming from someone who's loaning a 214270 Explorer, that feels like it has way less character to its design) ;)
What’s funny is talking to people who are sporting a Rolex Explorer 2 and they know nothing of the history of the watch or the design. They got it because it looks cool and says nothing about their hobbies or occupation.
Great video as always. But is would argue that some companies, particularly Doxa put a great deal of thought into their bezels. The "No-stops" decompression table on the bezel for sport divers was revolutionary for it's day.
Excellent point. We all know that I'll be owning / reviewing a Doxa one day soon. Absolutely love what they've done with their newer pieces! Thank you for the comment, man
Yes, Doxa did a lot of research into dive/divers watches, including the best combinations of dial and hands to get the best under poor light conditions and so as I understand it the orange dial and black (out lined) hands came about?
@@defender1006 Yes, apparently when Doxa divers/researchers went diving they found that orange was one of the last colors visible before total black as they went deeper. Of course that's when the tritium hands and indices came into play.
I really like this watch. So much so that I almost bought it four times. There was always another watch on my list that jumped ahead of it but I know I will own one in the future. Like you, I like the black dial but wish the WR was more than 100 meters. About three weeks ago, I had to make a decision between the Oris and a Damasko. I went with the Damasko DSUB2. Should receive it tomorrow.
I promise, as someone who's dived, dove, duved, diven in the past, 25 - 35 meters is already freaky as all hell ;) But I understand what you mean, we all gravitate to the "security" of a standard 300m depth rating. The lil Oris is a ton of fun just to experience one day. And thank you as always for the comment, brother!
Thank you Redentor. They are a ton of fun to wear and with all the seriousness around watch collecting, it's amazing what's out there to be enjoyed when you're not looking for brands / prestige. This watch is getting more wrist time than a 214270 Explorer on lone in my collection... that says a lot ;)
One thing I wanted to mention further: this watch has the perfect dimensions. In my several years of watch collecting, I've rarely found a watch that fits as nicely as this one--the thickness and lug-to-lug are nearly perfect. For my wrist, anyways.
Congratulations 🎉 I looked at the Oris recently , I went to the AD to look at the longines Hydroconquest but was impressed with the Oris 65 , it's on my wish list !
Try and find them second hand Junior. They're so much fun... I haven't gotten as much enjoyment out of a piece for a long time! And thank you as always for the comment. I hope you're well!
I also purchased mine in 2017 new for $1100 with the tropic. At the time getting the oem tropic was more difficult. I picked up my bracelet shortly after through Ace Jewelers in the UK. Not sure if they still sell them but for about $300 it was well worth it. I actually now prefer the bracelet, the style wears as comfortably as an Oyster bracelet IMHO.
Great call and it's so nice to hear that an owner still has the piece after the "hype" around the release died down. Since this video I've found a really snazzy deployant, aftermarket very much like the Patek 5712R or Blancpain deployants from back and the day and it works like a treat with the tropic (definitely gives it an upmarket feel and will keep the rubber alive for longer) - But I'll definitely look into finding a bracelet for the piece in the future and thank you for this! Loved your BB58 photo's - One might be making the cover this week ;)
So happy you made a video on one of my favorite designs - as you say, the negative space 60s numerals are such a unique touch. I recently found an original 60s model this one is based on, with a gorgeous orange seconds hand - and I’m blown away by its wrist presence and coolness. Thanks for the great vid!
Oh wow... that must be so special... Imagine a versus video seeing both side-by-side? And it's a 36mm piece, right? I'm sure it must feel larger. Such a charming / pleasing / unique design... I always get a grin out of it ;) Wear the classic in good health and thank you for the comment!
Oris watches are fantastic but this version of the Divers 65 does nothing for me. Fascinating how differently a design can affect us. Love that Seamaster 300 though.
Honestly, I'm still trying to get my head around why I like it so much. Maybe it's because I'm starting to get more enjoyment from the "character" of watch designs? I mean, it feels that way looking at 6:48 hahaha! The pieces just feel FUN all the time. Thanks for the comment Brandon! Great how our different tastes guide us in this hobby
Thanks a ton Jules! Don't say that too quickly though. There may or may not be a lukewarm review video on the Rolex Explorer 214270 next week ;) - I just love it when you can buy watches purely for the fun of it with no thought about "seriousness" or "prestige" It's quite refreshing to reset the brain. Thank you for the comment
Congratulations on purchasing the Divers 65, IDGuy. It really is a sensational piece, and in many ways, the light duty diver watch that best serves most people today. Built strongly enough to survive casual use, but not overbuilt so as to feel cumbersome. Plus it goes well on a leather strap, and it isn’t redundant when placed next to your Seamaster. Oh, and did I mention how I absolutely love the date window placement?
Very nicely said Chi-Town and thank you! It has integrated so well into daily wearing, it's crazy... the watch is just FUN. Such a great example of a unique character in a collection. We should be getting more and more pieces that scream "Fun" ;) And the date... after handling so many pieces before this, I feel like it has one of the best integrations out there (this coming from someone who despises them)
It's a great looking piece! Not much of a fan of bronze (maybe you can share your experience with it and how it's aged) but the whole two tone an a blue dial looks very sharp! Thanks for the comment Jack!
It creeps up on you, right? ;) One of the best integrations I've ever experienced. The date literally disappears on the dial until you actively search for it.
Very nice watch, nearly brought one myself but opted for the Chris Ward C65 as I preferred the dial & thought it was better value.(& it's British) You've got a very cool 3 piece collection there...any thoughts on adding a chronograph? I was strictly 3 handers but bought a Hamilton Khaki X Wind automatic on a whim for my 50th Birthday and haven't taken it off yet. Enjoy it, Cheers 👍🏻😍
Great question about Chrono's Steve. I've had an interesting few days and something dawned on me. I've been loaning an Explorer 214270 (and if I'm being honest, the experience has been quite underwhelming so far) - After thinking about how much the explorer history appeals to me and all of those details, the watch hasn't really lived up to the hype at all sadly... BUT there's one watch in Rolex's camp that I always return back to AND it's a chronograph ;) So, for the next three to five years I'll be saving. Maybe I'll be able to bag the watch by the time I hit 30. The prospect of saving for a grail is VERY exciting! Thank you for the comment Steve!
@@ID-Guy you're not 30 yet?! Don't take this as an insult as it's intended as a compliment - I had you pegged nearer my age, your commentary, insight and wisdom make you come across as much more mature. I'm sure you will get that chrono, and appreciate it much more for it. Thanks for your reply, and keep doing what you're doing 👍🏻👍🏻
One of the best date integrations on the market at the moment AFAIK. The only downside of this watch for me is the relatively large size at 40 mm (would prefer 38-39) and surprisingly sharp crown.
Had mine 3 years now, it's easily the looker in my collection. That distinctive dial, fabulous crystal, symmetrical date integration and the nicest screw in crown action I've tried to date. It's going knowwhere soon. Love your Vids, keep 'em coming.. 👍 p.s. The new Smiths Everest arrived today, unboxing on Friday with my watch crazy brother and a beer. Can't wait!
Fantastic to hear your feelings on the watch AND the Smiths news! Blown away by how dynamic this 65 is... It's one of those "what have I been missing?" moments, you know? Down to the crown... you're so right. Have a Rolex on loan and the crown threading is nothing to write home about... Enjoy the Smiths! I reached out to Eddie after seeing these new models and hopefully when the new batch arrives I'll be able to do a comparison between it and my OG. Something about the 36mm size never gets old. Enjoy!
@@ID-Guy Totally agree on the 36mm sizing, they just wear more elegantly. Yes I've got skinny wrists, but now have a new rule, no more new watches above 38mm, preferably smaller. Oris now do a 36mm Diver 65 but without this dial. Sure it will wear brilliantly, but without that dial it's not the same. Looks a thoroughly nice watch though..
Definitely puts itself in another league with such a functional, quirky design style. Ah, just love it. There are so many elements about it to enjoy. Thank you for the comment Ben!
Hi IDGuy, love your videos and approach! If you're looking for a new piece to assess, how about the Seiko Astron SSH003? I've bought this watch and find its balance, proportions and build quality excellent.. to me it's almost perfect except for the shape of the hands. But it doesn't have much of an audience in the watch world because it's not mechanical. Thought you may be interested from a design perspective. Just watched your vid on the Seiko Prospex LX for the 2nd time and now have a huge itch for one of those!
Just bought one on Monday and it should show up tomorrow. I love the design, as it really sets it apart from the typical ubiquitous design of divers these days.
@@ID-Guy Thanks for the reply. I agree with you. Thankfully, they're popping up occasionally at good prices. I suspect there will be regrets from some of those who sold for more "popular" designs.
Great video, great work on your channel. fyi (maybe its already been mentioned) Archer is a 1960s styled show made in 2009 and its font mimics font from that era. The dial of this watch was issued on a number or other brands dive watched from the 60's, including Oris.
I was thinking about flipping mine because I didn't get around to wearing it that much. So, I started wearing it again, and, now, I can't stop wearing it! It looks great on an olive green tropic strap, but, for some reason, I put mine back on its bracelet, even though the watch is, IMHO, more of a "fun" design rather than formal or toolish. The steel bracelet is very well executed, however, and gives it the air of a serious diver.
Beautiful watch, I am really debating between this version (on bracelet) or the sunset brown two tone bronze model. Also checking Oris’s site now the blue black and all black Arabic models are still listed, although the deuville version is missing
Thanks a lot George! Been wearing it for the last few weeks and it's a piece that feels just as fun every single time. Who needs seriousness with watches and brands anyway? ;)
I have this watch, the quirkiness makes it so much a classic...just looking at it, you'll marvel at its beauty and think you're lucky to have it. A keeper, definitely.
Stunning looking watch that a lot of people won't buy because it does not shout, look how much money I have, or the watch snob who turns their nose up because it does not have an in house movement. I pity them as they are the ones missing out on gems like this.
@@ID-Guy Great review it is a fun watch, natos can be a bit flimsy but otherwise more robust than they look and a few light marks add to the vintage appeal.
I’m such a huge Oris fan and fan of the in particular of the Divers 65. I also have an Aquis (whit is a tank) and a Big Crown PP (which in a strap monster). Th 65 is just really magic though. Great video!
Got to say, their designs are very unique and just FUN. I've been eyeing this damn 65 for years and now every time I look at it, the feeling of "why didn't I get this sooner" hits. Ah, it makes me grin. Thank you for the comment, brother!
