Awesome show MWC 👏👏👏👏 I’m a big fan of Oris and bought a Big Crown ProPilot from the fine folks at Francis & Gaye a few months ago. Would totally recommend them and mentioning the MWC sent you! Definitely disappointing that the bezel on every Diver 65 you’ve tried has been consistently so rubbish. One slipping by you can sort of understand but if all them are wobbly then that’s really disappointing. Ironically it’s probably quite close to the feel of an actual Oris diver from 1965 but that’s probably taking the whole reissue thing a bit too far 🤣 Such a shame as it’s a great looking watch 💔 Love the Pointer Date though 👍 If they tighten up the bezel I could definitely see either of these in my collection (although I’d probably go blue dial with the Pointer Date and black with the Diver 65 because I’m boring 🤣). Awesome work as always MWC 🙌
The Pointer Date is stunning, particularly the dial colour. It's such a deep red ... it just draws you in. Plus I adore the cathedral hands, the coin-edge bezel, the date pointer and the railroad minute track. Superb!
“...I said ish!” Brilliant 😂 I’ve got the bronze pointer date with the green dial. Got it from Ryan too. I’m a big fan. WR doesn’t bother me as it’s not the kind of watch that you’re going to be getting wet. I do like the 65 but my favourite is the now discontinued model with the Arabic’s at the quarters. My hope is that they’ll re-release it with the new movement, and improve the lume and bezel like you mentioned!
Russell as always LOVE your reviews. I turned 60 this past May and my wife got me an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date and I couldn't be happier. GREAT watch. Keeps great time and I've worn it every day since she gave it to me. I know in an earlier video you said to never wear two watches, but I have to admit I do. What's funny is how very few people ever notice and ask me about it, anyways I digress..... I have the black dial on my Oris and for me that would really be my only point of contention. The dial is a more subdued black. If it "popped" a little more I think the watch would be perfect for me. I personally love the bracelet but then again I love dress watches. It is so comfortable to wear. I also love the way it is integrated into the watch itself. Thank you again my friend for the review. I appreciate ALL you do for the watch community. I have also been listening to Martha's Man and I have to say I have really been enjoying your music. I was in a band WAY back when (early 80s). We ended up making five records and it was fun being on the road for the four years I was with the band (of course as you know being on the road is more fun when you're single and have practically no real life obligations). I've played guitar since I was eight years old and still play (and sing) almost every day for my wife. Thank you again Russell. Keep up the FANTASTIC work my friend!
Great stuff here Jeff!! Yes for those who are dressier inclined I can 100% see the appeal ! The design of the dial is so special!! Well when we were getting bigger I already had a mortgage :/ would’ve loved to have done the band thing in the late teens!!!! All the best Jeff!
Best part of your videos is "What the Wife thinks". I think it does not get enough love. Makes me laugh and it always sounds like my wife. Woman who are not "watch people" have the best opinions. Keep up the good work Mrs. Mad Watch Collector.
Awesome!! I am lucky enough to own both models🙏🙏 I have the red big crown and the dark green dial 65. Both are just solid great. I do wish the pointer date was 41 or 42mm. I think the pointer date is a classic and should be owned by all!!
I’m in love with the pointer date, to me it is an aspirational piece but my favorite is the navy dial gold hands and bronze bezel!!! She will be mine!!!!
Great mad review, thumbs up for the 'No Date Window' shout. Oris are doing some great stuff lately, the 65 is a real looker. Greetings from sunny France.
Had a Pointer date in the grey dial, gave it away to my cousin as a wedding gift. Always wanted and missed the Pointer date, finally bought another one in the same Burgundy/Bracelet spec as I was bored sitting at home recovering from my motorcycle accident. Have to admit, your video caught me by surprise and did get quite a few honest entertainment moments out of it. Thanks for the chuckles.
Cracking review. I love both these watches. Right up my street. A nice brown suede for the pointer date would look better. And an oyster style bracelet for the 65 would be better. Also… I see you on 9k subscribers. What an achievement. I remember when you had 9. 👏👏👏
Hahahaha OG you so are Joe! It’s a bit nuts but if you put the time in!!!!!! That PD has your name all over it, justvgg the e right casual/dress vibe for you!
Do like this variant of the 65 , I’m a fan sold one a couple of years back which probably wasn’t a good move as it wore so well , the perils of the watch enthusiast.... saw you gringa last night you put a lot of work into your videos and deserve every success . Keep up the great work mate , you will be at 10k in no time
Brian!!! Appreciate that a lot and thanks for coming over! Oris don’t get a lot of RU-vid time do they!!?? But they are fabulous looking watches! Look forward to speaking in the future!!
Superb review as ever Russ...agree with your comments completely, I think we are very similar tastes diver wise, got to be a vintage inspired reissue. Oh and I think its Citizen with the undercrackers at 12 not Seiko that's more renowned. Go check a NY0040 for example
I love that intro music. So many memories. I’m still waiting for the third movie to be continued. I still have the vhs that has that ending before they edited it out
Excellent review russ, I’m not sure on the pricing in relation to the quality and specs of these two. The pointer would win it for me but that diver was so close to being bb58 territory yet soooo far!! Such a shame they couldnt of sorted the crappy lume and bezel and possibly made a suitable bracelet then it would have been an absolute bargain. Up up and away, next stop 10k subs. All the best mate 👍✌️
I've looked at the 65 in the past but when compared with bb58 there's no comparison. The 58 worth the extra in my opinion. The pointer date on leather is a cracker 👌.
You mentioned affordable luxury Russ. I half expected Ben to pop up. But ya, that is Oris, affordable luxury if that exists. I think they are starting to go upmarket as well. I love the look of these watches. Great video as usual. Happy New year.
I bought my pointer date in the mid noughties. No screw down crown, same water resistance. Came on a leather strap which rotted first hot summer. Changed to bracelet and never looked back. Ironically my wife hated it on the strap but loves it on the bracelet! Oris were bought by the swatch group in the 80s but had a management buy back in the 90s. I have 4 oris's, one that was my grandfather's, 2 that were my father's, and mine. Great watches for the price.
This is fantastic my friend! You have a great connection with the brand! I actually go through the history of the ownership with Oris in the Aquis show!;)
Hi Russ, great video as always. The Oris diver is a GREEEAAAT dissapontment !! It looks not as a re-issue but as the original one... Are you sure you got the re-issue? ;o) The second Oris is much better and on a "wine" coloured leather strap with white stitches it should be a "real deal". Are you sure that there is a lume on the numerals by the Oris pointer date?
Great show as always Russ! i have both of the original re issues of these watches and have found the 65 does have play on the bezel as well so its obviously a qc issue that hasn't been picked up . 3 sets of adverts in this show , ooh, getting noticed now huh? Nice to see some new segways as well .
Another brilliant video!! Love these watches specially the Diver 65, just wish it had a better bezel and it were 200m as well. Its such a perfect everyday watch! Love the dial too! Got such character
That pointer is a proper beaut. The hands and that dial colour. Do like the 65 but this is not my favourite of the lineup. Awesome and enjoyable video as always mate.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Ok, ..love your show imo it's the best watch show on RU-vid, you make me and mine smile and that's important in life so thanks mad watch collector
A great video Russ, have you seen the bronze edition of the pointer date, thats quite attractive too, cheers for making the starting to the weekend even better, with the drop of one of your videos.
2 gorgeous watches. The 63 might be called a dive style watch, but in it's defence it might be ok for shallow diving! I took a 100m Seiko 5 SRPD51K2 down to 50m and it was fine. Not many people even go deeper than 50m. As for cheaper brands a test on a Cronos diver saw the watch stop working at.... wait for it, 3000m/300 bar in a pressure chamber and it started ticking again after the pressure was released. That's impressive! My Heimdallr Monster and Steeldive tuna did just as well as my Seiko turtles handling 100m plus. Anyway I reckon the Oris is definitely OK for shallow diving and snorkeling. I think some companies want to protect themselves from warranty claims, just in case one leaks. Some say don't swim or snorkel with a 50m watch, but Samsung Watch Active 2 smartwatch has only 50m resistance but it has a dedicated app that measures swimming performance and it's fine! It could probably go a bit deeper too. I use it every week in the pool. I love the pilot watch, and I suppose if the pilot has to worry about 50m water resistance, he's really in trouble! Lol But......for those prices they should have a bigger number on the dial and better lume on the indices!
Yep, really like both of those. 100m? Fine by me for swimming pool depths :) As long as the diver looks as good as that one, who cares if it implodes at 101m! Great stuff as always Russell!
Prefer the Pointer, especially with that burgundy dial! Would absolutely love it in Bronze and on a leather strap. The Diver 65 is too "clean" for me, doesn't tingle my vintage senses. Your review style is just the right kinda crazy 😄👍🏻
Had my first experience of watching your video at 2 X speed . All out assault of awesomeness and works weirdly well. All about the pointer date. The dial and complication is just mega.
I'm happy to trade off an additional 200m WR for a 2mm thinner case. I wish more manufacturers gave us slimmer 100m watches, as no one dives with them anyway.
I have an Oris Divers Sixty-Five. Best watch I’ve ever had. There’s now a Caliber 400 version of the watch, which competes head to head against the Tudor Black Bay.
I’m a sucker for cathedral hands so love that Oris Big Crown pointer date (the diver looks great too shame about the price and specs!) I’ve been thinking about getting the Seiko spb155j1 aka the green baby alpinist, looks easily as good as the Oris imo except for the exhibition case back, which is less impressive on the Seiko, but it’s equipped with 200m water resistance for a great price! What do you reckon?
Does the big crown pointer come in 36mm in the red dial? I can find the other coloured dials in 36mm but not the red. Did they make a 36mm version of the red?
Yessssssssir, great show ! Very wearable those two BUT the diver bezle is rubish and a bracelet with pins is not appropriate for such a piece. Having a Brandon made MWC "homage" watch, manufactured - for me - is the better choice and makes more fun...........at a fraction of the price. I forgot to mention the bloody lume, just (quote - utterly ghastly - unquote, Hugo Mountbatten)
I like the clean, vintage look of the Diver 65 but the bezel and lume should be better considering the price Oris charges. The Big Crown Pointer would look lovely on a vintage leather strap. Enjoyed the video, your channel always makes me laugh :)
For the money, the water resistance rating and bezel action on the divers 65 are just unforgivable. Having said that, the 40mm with the bronze bezel is still probably one of my all time favourite watches. The blue/black dial and blue AR coating does magical things in the light. What an absolute stunnarr! 😄
Brilliant review Russ! I prefer the diver... Oris makes lovely watches, these are in fact two great pieces, but I prefer their Aquis. That said, and if money was not a factor, I would go with the Sinn U50 . . . . I just have my heart set on one of these bad boys :) If not Sinn, then Doxa, I really like their watches too. Thank you again for your amazing reviews. Cheers my friend!
I have the pointer, I pre-ordered it as soon as I could, after this color was announced. I have it on the bracelet and it’s basically my daily watch. It fits perfectly, the bracelet is super comfy. Ive not tried it on a NATO, but in leather, it kills. The diver is disappointing, as I was going to add one at some point. Maybe if I find one used for a decent price. Killer review as always!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Oh yea, I agree with all of what you said about the Pointer. The waiter rating is a little disappointing for sure, but I gave it a pass because I’m very rarely near water on a daily basis.
Great review, sad to see the bezel on the diver 65 be so subpar. I love the pointer date, but the 50 meters water resistance is disappointing. I think i'll pass.
Another entertaining video and Intresting breakdown of the Oris diver and Pilot. Personally l prefer the pilot but bin that blingy strap for a decent leather or NATO. The diver is ok ish , bit I'd rather spend that sort of money on a CWC diver to be honest. Please take a look at the recent Walbrook/ Douglas skin diver reissues , they are well made and have some history
I'm an ORIS fan (I own a Big Crown diver from the 1990s with 200m WR), but these two are way overpriced. I can get amazing value from some microbrands at the same price. Great review as usual MWC!
Great reviews. :) Personally, if I had the money, I'd go for the pointer instead of the diver. At least with a watch like that, you don't *expect* a lot of water resistance. The diver is just disappointing. I've got a $100 Pagani Design Sub homage that has better bezel action and better water resistance. I really don't know what they're thinking releasing the diver in that state. For $1,000, I would expect better than a desk diver.
I really like the BCPD, and will likely get one at some point, probably in a bronze and blue-dial config, on a leather/suede strap. I think that combo looks sharp. I don’t like that particular gray and blue color combo, but I do like the Diver Sixty-Five in general though, I’d probably go with a dark blue dial.
Totally agree with your assessment. That 100m and bezel action along with the lume makes me back way off. The pilot watch looks great but 50m is a no go for me as well. Nice to look at but would not touch the watches with a 10 meter cattle prod. A great ghost buster once said something similar. Great video!!!
Ya you definitely can’t unsee it haha! I was upset with the bezel and build quality of the diver 65. I’ve also owned an Aquis in past and if the 65 was same quality I’d own one. Bc I prefer the design of the diver 65. Pointer date is interesting
My Citizen Skyhawk is 200m and it's only a push pull crown! I'd like the pointer date with a different dial colour. The diver is terrible, worst bezel I've seen and the hour "knob hand" was a bad choice. Excellent entertaining review as usual 👍🏻😃
I bought the Divers65 with the bronze bezel this weekend. I'm just not that keen on the bracelet. So I swapped it for an 'Engineer' style one from ebay.
I was thoroughly underwhelmed with the Diver 65, for all the reasons you found. The bracelet wasn't much good either and for the price why not buy the Aquis which is a terrific watch. Now let's talk about the pointer date dial 😍
You know the 65-dive watch is a skin diver, i.e., worn against the skin not a wet suit. It's not meant to be a deep-sea diver; it is designed for snorkeling and scuba.
Great quaility video again, thank you very much for fantastic entertaiment! Both look iconic and get the vintage vibes totally right. But for the price tag, using a standard sellita, they should get the main details right. My pic would be the diver 65 with blue dial, black bezel and bracelet, What a stunning combination!!! But I had the same doubts with the cheapy bezel action. Get your homework rith, Oris. ;)
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR absolutelyif you take the rado captain cook as an example the addition of metal edging to the lume plots really elevates the dial
What a beautiful couple of watches ! 🤩😎👍 And I guess that’s it: the Glow looks like a desk-diver here. The specs and quality are far from what Oris usually do. Their bracelet looks a bit too busy for me.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Also loved your review on the Aquis. I have the Emerald green 43.5mm. It’s big but I have wrists thick as a donkeys dangler. 8”.
Hopefully, Russ this tragedy won’t inspire Mr. Pagani to produce an homage line ‘Ode to the Gerbil ’.🐹 Perhaps he can concentrate on adapting the Day Date wheel to display different names. Everyday a different model!! I agree on your takeaway regarding the Oris line. No keepers yet!
Hahahahaha it’s a big shame for sure! The Panani family took him out for walks and everything! If they can tweak this Divers Sixty Five a bit I’d get one!
I love the simplicity of the diver and the grey/turquoise colour combination. The play in that bezel looks rubbish though. If it was a pre-production example you'd accept it knowing full well they'd sort it out before release but 🙄 no. Thanks for trying a few Russell - just to save us all the time and trouble of trying to find a good one - and failing. Unacceptable. Boo!
I really do love the designs of the Diver 65's. But it's difficult to justify the money when you can buy a Glycine with better specs and the same movement for about $320 USD.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I mean it's a cut above a Glycine for sure, but by that much?? I love what Oris do. I drool over the big crown pro pilots! But as you mentioned, there's a couple of specs I'd like to see improved on to justify the price.
The bad bezel was a revelation! Very poor. I wonder about the water resistance ? It would be interesting for someone to talk to Oris about this. I wonder if they classify it literally whereas elsewhere 100m is ok for swimming and Snorkeling, if it truly is 100m then this is perfectly fine for Scuba, deepest I've ever dived is 40m.
Interesting isn’t it Dale! Why is there diver only a 100 metre rating ? As the case with screw down everything looked pretty tight! Are the insides loose? Would a lighter pressure damage them
