40k is the most dystopian. Or at least it aspires to be the most dystopian and horrible universe. Orks are a lovely little diversion from that central point and obviously the best army because of it. But if you don't like 40k because it is depressing and evil then you kinda don't like the core world building philosophy of the setting. And your entitled to your opinion and all but the premise of the universe and the imperium is "we could not imagine a universe that sucks more than this one. if we could we would have made that one instead"

@@punkhippe I know I just think they should realize it's okay to joke about stuff in a normally horrible world. I mean heck that's what Easter eggs are for and there all over the place in what feels like every game. and Honestly I don't hate dystopian world's I actually love a table top RPG called shadow run and trust me if you know that world you will know I'm telling the truth. it just ultimately felt unnecessary I guess is the best way to word it I can think of.

If we don't change we are a few thousand years from being a xenophobic violent murder cult. We evangelize ourselves as a species sometimes as this noble and advanced species who momentarily falter in our ambitions. But what if we aren't? What if we are just primates with thumbs who have spent thousands of years bashing each other with rocks that get bigger and more advanced every age. 40k says that we are a horrific species, that our empires are cruel and fruitless. That the strong brutalize the weak always forever. It's relentless in its criticism of empires and the powerful. the fact that the brainwashing in all empires real or not means the ultramarime player doesn't get his army is fucking evil makes the satire bite even harder. So here is the discussion at the root of this. Is is appropriate to bring levity in that satire. Is saying that the ceo of Monsanto goes home and laughs at Adam Sandler movies good? Should we be reminding people Hitler loved cats? I say no. if you wanna take the piss out of empires you gotta go all the way. If you don't you humanise and minimize the brutality of thing you created this universe to lampoon. The levity should be in orks and papa nurgel. The levity should in be in necron politics. The infinite and the divine is great, brutal kunnin is chaotic and joyful, there is levity its just not in space marine books. The levity should be in places away from the imperium. But it's a matter of taste and I respect your gonna like what you like. It's just an interesting conversation for me but ultimately you do you.
