Okay, I've been around a while, I know about sponging glitter. I don't really like doing it and I don't think it would be faster for me when the issue is fishing glitter out of the bottle. I can fish them out and place them on my nail or I can fish them out and place them on a sponge and then sponge it on my nail and then clean up.
sponging glitter is a messy job - ain't nobody got time for that! I love your toothpick method - I shall be implementing that for sure. I normally hoke and place with the brush, but as you say that can get base heavy rather quickly lol.
Yeah, I like the sponge because it soaks up the base, so it can be used at the end for chunky situations after they are fished out. The big issue to me is too much or too thick base!
These are so cute! I did find the holy grail of jelly chunky glitters among the indies recently though... Dark & Twisted Lacquer has an amazing formula and I have a large round glitter polish of theirs that truly does not require glitter placement: I Think I Would Know if I Was Dead. That one was limited edition for the Little Box of Horrors but I also have Boils and Ghouls from their Halloween collection which is a similar formula. It's a thick jelly formula that suspends the glitter- you can kind of spread it on your nails like jam and the glitters stay where you put them and dry down great- it's pretty much magic.
Indies always do it better 🤷🏼♀️. I appreciate mainstream brands doing stuff like this but the base is rarely thick enough to avoid the extra work. I’m going to check those out!
You could also apply the chunky toppers to a makeup sponge. Ideally it'll soak up most of the base and leave the glitters behind and then you can just pat it onto your nail before applying a top coat? I've seen this used for other chunky glitters and it works pretty well!
Absolutely loved Lisa frank growing up (and my daughter was a LF dalmatian for Halloween) but I know all but the last one will literally never stick to my curved nails
You're missing star glaze! It's my favorite topper of all time. I was using it sparsely because I didn't want to use it up, but since it was re-released this year, I bought 2 more! Next year, I want to see holographic dolphins suspended in glitter base!!
Thank you for this in depth review! They're very cute, but I don't know if I have the patience for the glitter placement and removal. I might get Hit The Spot though because it's easier to work with 😀 Now I too will be thinking "Life Fork" when I see Lisa Frank! 😂 Thanks for the laugh!
I use a peel off base coat when I want to use glitter. I don't apply it to the whole nail or the polish pops off after a few hours but I apply to about 3/4 of the nail.
I understand, but no, I can’t. I had to make a choice between spending less time on each video, or not making videos at all. I’m actually really happy with how the closer shot of one finger looks and I’m getting a lot of videos done, and in a more timely matter right now too.
I have this very cute cheap chunky iridescent glitter that I got from the beauty supply store, I just realised the reason the base might be gooey and gluey may not be because it's cheap but so that one can get out all the chunky glitters... But I feel it's just a side benefit from an inexpensive solution lol. It doesn't dry fast either.
Keep the nail wraps in a cool place I left mine near the window where it was warm this summer and they got ruined but they last pretty long in a cool place
I was a little older than that at the time, so I feel REALLY old! These kinds of polishes are definitely cute, but I feel like I would look ridiculous in them.
Thanks for the swatch! I wanted to give you a toothpick so bad to help you out lol. Despite your difficulties, you still made the glitter look great. And I'm glad the hearts one is easier to work with, that's the only one I picked up but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.
It really looked a lot worse than it was. The large circle glitter was the only really annoying one and it was what I’d expect from large circle glitter. I’ve restocked my toothpicks since I filmed this 😂
You are a perfectionist aren't you 😉 but I totally hear ya - most of these you can't apply without some placement. I totally love these though coz I'm such a big kid haha. I didn't grow up with Lisa Frank but I do love these toppers. I'm just a big glitter topper person I guess hehe
And now *none* of us will be able to look at Lisa Frank without thinking Life Fork ever again :D :D these looked cool, shame they wont make it to the UK.
real question - what do you do when almost all the glitter in a glitter polish gets stuck to the inside sides of the bottle and there's no amount of shaking or rolling or setting upside down that gets it off? i have the colores de carol march 2021 PPU (lady gouldian) glitter crelly and i love it, but cannot use it because of that - thank you
You could try sticking a toothpick in and stirring it/scraping the glitter off of the sides. You could also try polish thinner. That will make it suspend glitter worse in the long run but if nothing else has worked, a little bit of thinner could help loosen them up.
I dunno man, these r disappointing :/ To me, it’s giving very cheap Walmart polish from the 90’s. Maybe that’s what they were going for bc that’s where we originally found Lisa Frank? Even if that were the case, this collab seems lazy to me. If you take the og designed brush cap away, they’re lackluster and honestly not even usable for reg polish. If they were standalone glitters with an acrylic or gel base to pair, it would work better imo. Like, why the gigantic stars and circles and repeat glitters? They could have done so many cool things with Lisa Franks designs. Like whales, tigers, cheetahs even like some pretty ocean blue bases or neon greens. For such an extremely large polish company who out prices some of their polishes out of regular consumer market, they could have designed these way way better for us 90’s kids. This just seems like a lazy and cheap cash grab w zero creativity just bc it has a Lisa Frank cap. Thanks for your review! 🫶
I didn’t want to. I don’t find sponging on chunky glitter to be very helpful. It’s a better method for getting full coverage out of a finer glitter. It’s not really efficient if you’re trying to use a glitter as a topper over another color.
