Pomona Bill. That is exactly why we can no longer trust the main stream media. Ratings sell advertising, advertising means money. The more fear mongering, exciting, or controversy the higher the ratings. It is becoming that way on RU-vid as well. This is the ONLY place I look to for clear, informed and reliable information on Oreville.
Juan with your genuine enthusiasm you've provided a good honest in-depth summary of the Oroville dam situation as it has evolved over the last 3 months from all angles - and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rebuild updates.
Great Job. Incredibly professional. I am in Chicago and would not normally be too concerned about your dam but I can not get enough of your reporting. Thanks.
The most detailed and comprehensive video about this area I've ever seen. Thank you for your efforts to bring this information forward with great views from the air.
Thank you, hermano Juan Browne !! Another perfect Oroville Update !! I am so grateful for all that you do and especially thankful for your awesome family that shares you with us.. The Browne Family - The Best !!!
Hello from Alberta. Started watching when the spillway breached. I have kept watching you because of the thoughtful detailed coverage of this massive structure and marvelous aerial footage. Keep up the great work!
Excellent Juan !! ....thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all .....Full Marks for that..... and your plane and new stabilisation gizmos .....great pictures ...Looking forward to the Project Start ......the race against time !!!
Jaun, thank you for the excellent report. Would it be possible for you to do a fly over sometime and explain the various parts of the lake? Where is the Hwy 70 bridge, the various marinas, etc. I'm looking for an overview/tour of Lake Oroville. I'm thinking the audience would appreciate it too. I would be happy to fly and run the camera for you anytime. Thanks for the great reports.
Chris Wikeen - a good example of The Browne Effect - that's where the places Juan visits and shows us on video have a huge spike in Google hits and tourism this year because we've learned how great all those places are from his videos. 👍💕
Hi Juan, I'm glad you keep on making more updates about Oroville. I will start from the beginning: on February I watched on telly the emergency situation about Oroville and I wanted to know further about how the process of first reconducting the situation, then how the first repairs would be done and what will happen, and, finally now I want to know how the reconstruction will evolute. So I know that your channel is interesting because my first impression was so. I will keep on watching your videos because you give the best information that could be given and, to be honest, you are honest and you explain it so well. Now your flights give a more completed view that marries with the information that you tell us. Thank you! I am looking forward to watching that lower section of the spillway being demolished and started rebuilding!!
Best videos, best and most interesting reports. Thanks Juan. (You might cure my fear of flying, but some of those cliff-edge bike trail videos make my palms sweaty. Be safe!)
all hail to the mighty Luscombe, I love how the window is robust enough to get out of the way, awesome aerial video, documentary indeed ! never to be replaced by a drone
Get that man a pint !! Brilliant stuff !! Thank you for your hard work ! And I enjoyed your london Volgs !! Shout me up for a pint next time your over !
I'm just glad everything is OK. We plan to buy a house and relocate the entire family downstream from the Dam. There are some really good deals in that area. Two thumbs up!
Thanks for the report "Blanolirio" , great job as always & thanks for the clarification from GT . I went to the Oroville Spillway Community Meeting in Chico and got a slightly different perspective from the people charged with the explanation of a things to come . But when engineering/maintenance personnel explained in the power point part of there report it matched what you heard on the phone . Loved the video and hope more is in the works.........Keeping my eyes & ears open... Coming to you from Evacuation Area 1A, Oroville, Ca........Good Summer to All......
I enjoy the factuality of your reports. What was the apparent water flow across the parking lot. Btw, I am retired from the CA Dept of Insurance. Was at the LAC in Oroville, disaster center in people speak, in Oroville, after the Butte complex fires. We had to leave the facility because pro westling tour was scheduled to appear. We used to come as kids and see the progress of the construction of the dam .
I scour you tube for fake news about Oroville dam, and then I post to there viewer's that there watching fake and alarming news, and give them the link to Juan's site. Have been watching him from the beginning and have seen nothing but professional reporting. Thanks Juan
Capt! Very good stuff. Can you maybe next time show us using the color highlights, all the power lines existing and planned? It's hard to tell what's pwrline and what's pipeline..... Where's FO Lil Petey??!
that video intro was really cool. Really high production value. Was that done Solo or did you have somebody filming you? Pretty cool thanks for the reporting
Your Luscombe is a nice one!! Thanks for the update. How many gallons per hour of gas does it burn, and what is your flight time/ fuel capacity? Lot's of question's, sorry. Oops forgot one, what is the average cost per hour operating cost? (fuel, maintenance, repairs and upkeep) Pretty nosy, at your discretion to answer any or all or part of my questions of course, just thought it might cause some funds to spring forth when people came to realize the "real cost" of operation and ownership of a private aircraft. Thanks Juan, a South Dakota resident that enjoys the heck out of your videos!!!
I'm curious also about where the rock crushing plant will be installed. Common sense says right next to the huge stockpile of material that they have excavated. I guess you'll be the first to know!
have been watching your channel from day one. looking forward to future repair reports. you could probably find a company to support you, some ad revenue. Just don't let it take over the good work
Hey "Ace".................Thanx. As usual my wait is worth it. Great job. The pool for information on the dam is very shallow. Do you patrol the rivers? Thanx again.
Thank you for your reply, Juan. Seems it would be a "major" repair and would warrant its own line item. i guess that shows what i know..., sure hope they're right. Again, great job, me thinks you have a future in this.
Great job! Couple points to make though; first I would bet my bottom dollar that the emergency spillway is not poured on bedrock. The very light colored granite that you see exposed beneath the main spillway now is competent bedrock, the darker more red colored rock is what I would term a decomposed granite at best. Trust an old miner on this one, that type of rock is easily eroded as you saw when the water did run over the emergency spillway. Second look closely at about 11:15 to 11:20, there is water running down the channel below the emergency spillway. Where is that water coming from? Another of those "natural springs"? Speaking of which; check out the "green spot" on the main dam that is caused by a "natural spring", now that the lake level is down it seems the green is turning brown again. Again, great job Juan, without you we would never know any of this stuff.
One of the constraints on spillway flow has been the desire to avoid low reservoir level scouring of the inlet channel above the spillway. Are there any plans to dredge this channel deeper so as to allow high flow rates at lower water levels?
Am I correct in assuming that, if that inlet channel scours, the rocks & sand would do erosion damage to the gate structure, and potentially to the gates, themselves?
Hydraulics is not my field, but I had thought that the scouring danger was primarily related to eroding the intake channel, which is dangerous for an earth-fill dam. But secondarily, it might be possible for the current to carry rocks up to the face of the gate valves (it would be a challenge to dislodge a rock that was wedging a gate open). It's a bit surprising that there are no plans to deepen the intake channel, especially with all the resources now on hand as we start to go into the dry season and the expected lowering of the reservoir level. Maybe someone can talk about the scouring issue in better detail?
Juan, thanks again for another excellent update! On a future flyover, can you please swing by Feather Falls, and show us what they look like? Take care!
Hey, Juan, just wondering if you have any interest in Pyramid Lake and Walker Lake in Nevada. Fairly close to you and also interesting hydrologic and engineering stories.
Google translation-"Thank you very much for the information, the review from the plane is a very valuable picture, which shows a lot of things, but of course it is not enough for a specialist, many details and data are needed to give recommendations. But it seems to me that in the working part of the spillway, in the future it is necessary to increase the aeration of the flow by filling it with vertical walls. Well, to increase the thickness and strength of the bottom and walls of the tray as well as its anchoring, in accordance with the loads from the flow, including the flow pulsation. I wish you successes in time-consuming and complex work on flooding at your large and world-famous hydroelectric complex! Vladimir SPb"...Thanks Vladimir!
