I remember desperately wanting more episodes and chapters of this..... still feel that way

This anime stuck out me because of how...grounded it felt. It's not set in an alternative world, medieval fantasy, Isekai or some other sort of typical fictional world, where protagonists have unusual abilities or powers. It's just regular humans with fighting each other with real-world firearms. Sure, it does have those typical over-the-top anime logic moments, like Valmet running around in open fields doing CQC on everyone and surviving ridicioulus amounts of gunshots to the stomach. Or Jonah having white hair and red eyes as if he was an Ishvalan ripped straight from Full Metal Alchemist. But other than that, this anime was a nice palette cleanser among most action animes in how it didn't try to inject any fantasy elements.

I have not seen this anime for a few years, but I remember it being awesome. Maybe it is because you are younger, and children soldiers are not talked about as much these days, but you seemed to miss the point of how impactful it is for the main character to be one, what he went through, exactly what it meant for him to work for the mercenaries, and how hard it is to be a normal kid after being a child soldier. Once you take that into account the whole anime becomes really deep. Thank you for bringing up this awesome anime, but the subject matter is more serious than how you are going about talking about it.

This has been my all time favorite anime full stop since the first time I watched it like 6 or 7 years ago. Probably rewatched it about 6 or 7 times too lol, never gets old.

The video is awesome! Nostalgia hits like a truck and I love the recap. Although there are a few discrepancies. First, Johan did escape to protect Koko against the assassins but he literally hates learning math. Second, Koko ordered him to follow Valmet. Lastly, Valmet didn't die cuz she got hit on the side (non-vital parts) and was hospitalized. This video just covers half of the anime, please make more awesome videos!
