Coming from watching orangutan sanctuaries documentaries all day where they say this is actually animal cruelty because this animals can never be release to the wild because they are teach to be so human like, I don’t know what to think about this.

They certainly aren't meant to live in a home living like humans. No matter how cute it may seem or how nice the people may come off. If people aren't helping to rehabilitate/ teach them how to live in there natural habitat and make sure they can successfully live out on their own in the jungle, its not cool. Some folks like to believe they are doing the right thing or that they'll love the animal like family, but it is selfish and wrong. Every person with a fully developed brain should understand which animals are ok to live in a home as a pet and which animals belong in the wild.

@@ultimatesportsmedicine4395 sure but isn’t it nice to give them credit for intelligence? Like I hate when people think apes are dumb. I respect the sign language teaching to PROVE to humans they are highly intelligent.
@ultimatesportsmedicine4395
@ultimatesportsmedicine4395 3 года назад
@@TheBaBaTV The are extremely intelligent. But my comment wasn't about listing all the reasons why these animals are awesome or about all they are capable of. I care about these animals and I care about their well being and what's best for them. I didn't say anything to take away of what they are capable of and how smart they are. I don't care if they can sit and teach a french class to humans, that's not where they belong that's not what they were put on this planet for. Their purpose isn't to prove to humans how smart they are. Hate to break it to you

Remember this orangutan was released. He only took princess home from the camp to raise for 2 years, while bringing her back and forth from work and keeping her home on his days off.

My guy…the wild is disappearing on a daily basis far faster than these creatures can breed. Between palm oil plantations, poachers and the illegal pet trade, these critically endangered species will become extinct within our lifetime without breeding programmes, and human intervention to counteract human destruction.

Why were you surprised Princess could imitate actions? That is how young orangutans learn from their moms. And that is why they need to be with their moms in the wild or with surrogates who will teach them about how to survive in the wild as orangutans.

This footage is from the late 70s/early 80s. It was before the experiences of Koko the gorilla and Kanzi the bonobo so we hadn't learned what not to do with apes in terms of language studies.

It’s neat that this female ape learned so many human things. It’s definitely a scientific win. Yet, I want to know was she able to survive in the tree tops and live like other apes without human help or contact. In other words, was she able to live independently like other Orangutans.

So the place she is at is a research camp started in 1979, camp leakey in borneo. it actually has wild orangutans living there. So shes is an orphan and she would be fine going in living in camp. he only worked with her for two years. just google it. They have other places where they teach the babies how to do jungle stuff etc. Im sure he would have taught her how to climb etc. She has two babies alive now. Im not sure if she is still alive. So she was released, at the camp they just watch and study, they dont hurt them. its cool.

I hope they didn’t use USA signing, because then the apes of Borneo and Sumatra would not understand her. Sorry I couldn’t resist the dad joke opportunity. On a serious note, this man must have the patience of a Saint. All that frustration yet he didn’t quit.

Now I begin to think that orangutans are smarter than humans. They are just lazy or act stupid or maybe they have peace philosophy. Maybe their philosophy of life is better than humans. Maybe they love peace and hate war. Maybe If they were war-like animals, I guess humans would easily lose a fight with them because of how smart and strong they are 🦧

So if orangutans can talk then why force them to live in the forest? Why not teach them sign language and ask them what they want?
@chefpatrice1726
@chefpatrice1726 3 года назад
No ma’am. They end up learning sign language as a consequence of their mothers being poached not because its fun to have a wild animal. They die without their mothers so these good people give them a chance to live. Once they can be on their own, that is when they are released back into the wild. Where they truly strive and belong.
@rl-nj7gb
@rl-nj7gb 3 года назад
We dont force them to live in the forest. They live in the forest. Humans destroy their homes and poachers kill there parents hence they get orphaned and get taught since there mothers cant teach them to live by themselves since they're dead
@CoolGobyFish
@CoolGobyFish 2 года назад
Apes can't really "talk". They lack true language. They know signs, but they can only ask for things, nothing more.
@virginiaviola5097
@virginiaviola5097 Год назад
Ok…well, we talk to our human babies for at least a year before they begin to speak back, and then quite some more time after that before they start to do more than name things, asking for things, and then eventually putting together entire sentences..so why the heck did the guy think that a baby ape would be any different? That learning language as a form of communication would be as slow a process for our nearest cousins as it is for us? Truly, humans are stupid.

Deplorable. Of course he/they no longer features footage of his _"leased"_ orangutan tending to his laundry; One of the other _"human characteristics"_ he claimed to of successfully -taught- trained her: _"washing my clothes."_ obscene. Don't believe it? video is still available on internet archive (along with other early-Birutė/Camp Leakey -- who initially leased orangutan -- *For-Profit* shenanigans & buffoonery)
