I just paid $900 for my fillings, I even took my retainer in to get it cleaned, now it’s nighttime and I went to put in my retainer and it doesn’t fit ! They didn’t even say anything about it there or give me a heads up. So now I have to go back. Ugh.

Or put the retainer in a cup of warm water and let the material thin out but not for too long and then let cool for a sec and let the retainer take shape of your teeth a little trick I learned in my office

Dentists don’t care at all about what your orthodontist has done for you (at least my former dentist didn’t, they weren’t worried in the least if my retainer would still fit). You have to make them take your retainer into account. Bring your retainer with you to every single dentist appointment, just in case they do a procedure that day (sometimes when you have a cavity they happen to have an opening right after your cleaning and you can do the filling right there instead of coming back another day). IMMEDIATELY put your retainer in after they finish the filling. DO NOT give them time to put all their tools away, because they absolutely will hurry up and prep the area for the next bag of teeth and money coming in after you. Pro tip: don’t get metal fillings because they have to set for 24hrs and you won’t be able to put your retainer in. If you put your retainer in before the filling has set, it will crumble apart (I know this from personal experience; I had had braces and my dentist knew this but didn’t care enough about me to let me know that I needed to skip my retainer that night while the filling set). If you get a composite filling, they set it right there in the office with the blue light and you are free to put your retainer in. That dentist was terrible and I always left unhappy. I would ask questions and they would almost huff at me for it as if I were supposed to sit down and shut up and let them poke around in my mouth without telling me what they were doing. I have finally changed dentists after several years with them and I’m so happy. I also refer people away from them (just by word of mouth haha, I definitely have never and would never post a negative comment online about my previous dentist).

Literally had braces for a gap. Never wore the retainer and they never went back into place. So idfk if it’s true that you need to keep wearing it or not. But for me at least I didn’t need to wear it or get braces again

Can I just say that his threat of being in braces again just isn't always true. My retainer was way too painful and I have some sensory issue so I've never really worn it. My teeth have barely moved...like nobody has ever noticed and nor do I.

Yep...got a cap on back tooth...complained it was to tight...dentist did it over a bit smaller but still tight. Shifted row of teeth and eventually broke the one next to it.
